    Limiting the Volume (AVLS (Volume Limit))
    You can set “AVLS (Volume Limit)” (Automatic Volume Limiter System) to 
    limit the maximum volume to prevent auditory disturbance or distraction. 
    With “AVLS (Volume Limit),” you can listen to music at a comfortable volume 
    level. 
    “Off ” is set by default.

    button
     Press and hold the BACK/HOME button until the Home menu 
    appears.
      Press the /// button to select  (Settings), and then press 
    the  button to confirm.
      Press the /// button to select “Common Settings,” and then 
    press the  button to confirm.
    The list of “Common Settings” options appears.
      Press the /// button to select “AVLS (Volume Limit),” and then 
    press the  button to confirm.
      Press the /// button to select “On,” and then press the  
    button to confirm.
    The volume is kept to a moderate level.
    To set this item to off
    Select “Off ” in step , and then press the  button to confirm.

    Turning Off the Beep Sound
    You can turn off the beep sounds of the player.
    “On” is set by default.

     Common Settings  
    Setting a Screensaver Type
    You can set the screensaver to either a “Clock” or “Blank” for when there is no 
    operation for a while during song playback. You can also select “None” for no 
    screensaver.

    	Press and hold the BACK/HOME button until the Home menu appears.
    	Press the /// button to select  (Settings), and then press 
    the  button to confirm.
    	Press the /// button to select “Common Settings,” and then 
    press the  button to confirm.
    The list of “Common Settings” appears.
    	Press the /// button to select “Screensaver,” and then press 
    the  button to confirm.
    	Press the /// button to select “Type,” and then press the  
    button to confirm.
    The list of screensaver types appears.
    	Press the /// button to select a desired type, and then press 
    the  button to confirm.
    After confirming, the screen in step 
     appears again.
      
    “
     Clock”: When there is no operation for a while, a clock appears as a 
    screensaver. (Default setting)
      
    “
     Blank”: When there is no operation for a while, the screen goes off.
      
    “
     None”: The screen does not change to a screensaver.

     Common Settings  
    Setting a Screensaver Time
    You can set the time for the screensaver to activate to 15, 30, or 60 seconds.

    	Press and hold the BACK/HOME button until the Home menu appears.
    	Press the /// button to select  (Settings), and then press 
    the  button to confirm.
    	Press the /// button to select “Common Settings,” and then 
    press the  button to confirm.
    The list of “Common Settings” appears.
    	Press the /// button to select “Screensaver,” and then press 
    the  button to confirm.
    	Press the /// button to select “Screensaver Timing,” and then 
    press the  button to confirm.
    The list of screensaver time appears.
    	Press the /// button to select a desired type, and then press 
    the  button to confirm.
    After confirming, the screen in step 
     appears again. 
    You can select the setting time as “After 15 sec,” “After 30 sec” (default 
    setting) or “After 60 sec.”
     Hints
      
    While characters are scrolling on the screen, the screen does not change to the 
    screensaver.
    

     f you select “None” from “Type” of “Screensaver,” you cannot set “Screensaver Timing.”

    Adjusting the Brightness of the Screen 
    (Brightness)
    You can set the display brightness to one of 5 levels.

    appears.
      Press the /// button to select  (Settings), and then press 
    the  button to confirm.
      Press the /// button to select “Common Settings,” and then 
    press the  button to confirm.
    The list of “Common Settings” appears.
      Press the /// button to select “Brightness,” and then press the 
     button to confirm.
    The brightness adjustment screen appears.
      Press the /// button to select a level, and then press the  
    button to confirm.
    “3” is set by default.
    After you have adjusted the setting level, be sure to press the  button to 
    confirm. If you press the BACK/HOME button before you confirm, the 
    setting will be canceled.
     Hints
      
    You can adjust the brightness of the screen while you are playing a video or photo. Press 
    the OPTION/PWR OFF button, and then select “Brightness” from the option menu.
    

     f you adjust the brightness of the screen to a lower level, the charge will last longer (
    

    Setting the Current Time (Set Date-Time)
    You can set the current time by adjusting it manually.

      Press the /// button to select “Common Settings,” and then 
    press the  button to confirm.

      Press the /// button to select “Set Date-Time,” and then press 
    the  button to confirm.
    The screen used to set the date and time appears.
      Press the / button to select a year, and press the / button to 
    increment/decrement the value, and then press the  button to 
    confirm.
      As you did in step , adjust the settings for month, date, hour, and 
    minute.

    To display the current time
     Select  (Clock Display) on the Home menu.
     Press the OPTION/PWR OFF button on the “Now Playing” screen and select 
    “Clock Display” from the option menu.
     Hint
     
    You can select the date format from among “YYYY/MM/DD,” “MM/DD/YYYY,” and 
    “DD/MM/YYYY.” Furthermore, you can select the time format from either “12-hour” 
    or “24-hour.” For details, see “Setting the Date Format” (Date Display Format) (  page 
    88), or “Setting the Time Format” (Time Display Format) (  page 89). 
    Notes
    
     
    If the battery power is used up, for example, when the player is not used for a long time, 
    your settings for date and time may be reset and “-” will be displayed instead of the 
    current date and time.
      
    Th
     e clock may gain or lose up to 60 seconds per month. In this case, set the clock again.

    Information such as model name, firmware version, etc., can be displayed.

    Total photos:  Displays the total number of photos stored on the player.

    -PORT:  Displays the version information for WM-PORT.
