    Using Menu Functions
    TV Settings Menu
    Used to update the TV’s system software in the future.
    System Update
    Clock/Timers
    Sleep TimerSets the TV to automatically switch to standby mode after a certain amount of 
    time.
    When “Sleep Timer” is activated, the   (Timer) indicator on the TV front panel 
    lights up in orange.
    z
     When you turn off the TV and turn it on again, “Sleep Timer” is reset to “Off.”
    On TimerSets the TV to automatically turn on from standby mode.
    Auto Clock UpdateSwitches to digital mode and obtains the time.
    Clock SetAllows you to adjust the clock manually. 
    ~
     When the TV is receiving digital channels, you cannot adjust the clock manually, 
    because the clock automatically receives the time code from the broadcast signal.
    Eco
    ResetResets all the “Eco” settings to the factory settings.
    Power  SavingReduces power consumption of the TV by adjusting the backlight.
    When you select “Picture Off,” the picture is switched off, and the   (Picture Off) 
    indicator on the TV front panel lights up in green. The sound remains unchanged.
    Idle TV StandbyTurns the TV off after it has been kept idle for the preset length of time.
    PC Power 
    ManagementSwitches the TV to standby mode when the TV receives no signal from the PC 
    input source for 30 seconds.
    Light SensorAutomatically optimises the picture settings according to the ambient light in the 
    room.
    ~
     Do not put anything over the sensor, doing so may affect its function. See page 14 
    to check the position of the sensor.
    Picture
    Target InputsAllows you to select whether to use the common settings or to make custom 
    settings for the input you are currently viewing.
    CommonApplies common settings to all inputs in which “Target 
    Inputs” is set to “Common.”

    SportsProvides the optimum picture quality for viewing sports.
    GameMost suitable for when playing games on your TV.
    GraphicsProvides the optimum picture quality for viewing graphics.
    ResetResets all the “Picture” settings to the factory settings excluding “Target Inputs,” 
    “Picture Mode” and “Advanced Settings.”
    BacklightAdjusts the brightness of the backlight.
    PictureIncreases or decreases picture contrast.
    BrightnessBrightens or darkens the picture.
    ColourIncreases or decreases colour intensity.
    HueIncreases or decreases the green tones and red tones.
    ~
     “Hue” can be adjusted only for the NTSC colour signal/system (e.g. U.S.A. video 
    tapes).
    Colour TemperatureAdjusts the whiteness of the picture.
    CoolGives white colours a blue tint.
    NeutralGives white colours a neutral tint.
    Warm 1/Warm 2Gives white colours a red tint. “Warm 2” gives a redder tint 
    than “Warm 1.”
    z
     “Warm 1” and “Warm 2” are not available when “Picture Mode” is set to “Vivid” 
    (or “Photo-Vivid”).
    SharpnessSharpens or softens the picture.
    Noise ReductionReduces the noise level of pictures (snowy pictures).
    MPEG Noise 
    ReductionReduces picture noise in MPEG-compressed videos. This is effective when 
    viewing a DVD or digital broadcast.

    Using Menu Functions
    Cinema DriveProvides improved picture movement when playing DVD or VCR images taken on 
    film, reducing picture blur and graininess.
    Auto 1Provides smoother picture movement than the original film-
    based content. Use this setting for standard use.
    Auto 2Provides the original film-based content as is.
    ~
     If the image contains irregular signals or too much noise, “Cinema Drive” is 
    automatically turned off even if “Auto 1” or “Auto 2” is selected.
    Advanced SettingsAllows you to set “Picture” settings in more detail. These settings are not available 
    when “Picture Mode” is set to “Vivid” (or “Photo-Vivid”).
    ResetResets all the advanced settings to the factory settings.
    Black CorrectorEnhances black areas of the picture for stronger contrast.
    Adv. Contrast 
    EnhancerAutomatically adjusts “Backlight” and “Picture” to the most 
    suitable settings judging from the brightness of the screen. 
    This setting is especially effective for dark images scenes, 
    and will increase the contrast distinction of the darker picture 
    scenes.
    GammaAdjusts the balance between bright and dark areas of the 
    picture.
    Auto Light 
    LimiterReduces glare such as in scenes where the entire screen is 
    white.
    Clear WhiteEmphasises white colours.
    Live ColourMakes colours more vivid.
    White BalanceAdjusts the temperature of each colour.
    Sound
    Target InputsAllows you to select whether to use the common settings or to make custom 
    settings for the input you are currently viewing.
    CommonApplies common settings to all inputs in which “Target 
    Inputs” is set to “Common.”

    BalanceEmphasises the left or right speaker.
    Intelligent VolumeKeeps volume level constant across all programmes and adverts (e.g. adverts tend 
    to be louder than programmes).

    Volume OffsetAdjusts the volume level of the current input relative to other inputs, when “Target 
    Inputs” is set to the current input name (e.g. Video 1).
    SurroundAllows you to select the suitable surround effects depending on the genre of TV 
    programme (movie, sport, music, etc.) or video game.
    The options that can be selected differ depending on the “Scene Select” settings.
    S-FORCE Front 
    SurroundDelivers surround effects that help you enjoy the virtual 
    multi-ch surround audio with just the two internal TV 
    speakers.
    Simulated StereoAdds a surround-like effect to mono programmes.
    CinemaDelivers surround effects just like the high-grade audio 
    systems found in movie theatres.
    MusicDelivers surround effects that make you feel like you are 
    surrounded by sound as in a music hall.
    SportsDelivers surround effects that make you feel like you are 
    watching a live sports contest.
    GameDelivers surround effects that enhance game sound.
    OffConverts and reproduces multi-ch audio to 2ch. In the case of 
    other audio formats, the original audio is reproduced.
    Voice ZoomAdjusts the sound level of human voices. For example, if the voice of a news 
    announcer is indistinct, you can turn up this setting to make the voice louder. 
    Conversely, if you are watching a sports programme, you can turn down this 
    setting to soften the voice of the commentator.
    Sound EnhancerReproduces clear sound by complementing high-frequency bands.
    Sound BoosterProduces a fuller sound for more impact, by emphasising the treble and bass 
    sounds.
    Dual SoundSets the sound from the speaker for a stereo or bilingual broadcast.
    Stereo/MonoFor stereo broadcasts.
    Main/Sub/MonoFor bilingual broadcasts, select “Main” for sound channel 1, 
    “Sub” for sound channel 2, or “Mono” for mono channel, if 
    available.
    ~
     For other equipment connected to the TV, set “Dual Sound” to “Stereo,” “Main,” 
    or “Sub.”
    Screen (for inputs other than a PC)
    Target InputsAllows you to select whether to use the common settings or to make custom 
    settings for the input you are currently viewing.
    CommonApplies common settings to all inputs in which “Target 
    Inputs” is set to “Common.”

    Using Menu Functions
    4:3 DefaultSets the default Wide Mode for 4:3 broadcasts.
    Wide ZoomEnlarges the 4:3 picture to fill the 16:9 screen, keeping the 
    original image as much as possible.
    NormalDisplays conventional 4:3 broadcasts in the correct 
    proportion.
    OffUses the setting that you specified in “Wide Mode.”
    Display AreaAdjusts the picture display area.
    AutoAutomatically switches to the most appropriate display area.
    Full PixelDisplays pictures in their original size when parts of the 
    picture are cut off.
    +1Displays pictures in their original size.
    NormalDisplays pictures in their recommended size.
    -1/-2Enlarges the picture so that the edges are outside the visible 
    display area.
    Horizontal ShiftAdjusts the horizontal position of the picture.
    Vertical ShiftAdjusts the vertical position of the picture when “Wide Mode” is set to “Wide 
    Zoom,” “Zoom” or “14:9.”
    Vertical SizeAdjusts the vertical size of the picture when “Wide Mode” is set to “Wide Zoom.”
    Screen (for PC input)
    Auto AdjustmentAutomatically adjusts the display position, phase, and pitch of the picture when the 
    TV receives an input signal from the connected PC.
    z
     “Auto Adjustment” may not work well with certain input signals. In such cases, 
    manually adjust “Phase,” “Pitch,” “Horizontal Shift,” and “Vertical Shift.”
    ResetResets all PC screen settings to factory settings.
    PhaseAdjusts the phase when the screen flickers.
    PitchAdjusts the pitch when the picture has unwanted vertical stripes.
    Horizontal ShiftAdjusts the horizontal position of the picture.
    Vertical ShiftAdjusts the vertical position of the picture.
    Wide ModeSets “Wide Mode” for displaying pictures from your PC.
    NormalDisplays the picture in its original size.
    Full 1Enlarges the picture to fill the vertical display area, while 
    maintaining its original proportion.
    Full 2Enlarges the picture to fill the display area.
    Video Settings
    Colour SystemSets the colour system (“Auto,” “PAL,” “SECAM,” “NTSC3.58,” or “NTSC4.43”)

    Audio Settings
    Speaker TV SpeakerTurns on and outputs the TV’s sound from the TV speakers.
    Audio SystemTurns off the TV speakers and outputs the TV’s sound from 
    external audio equipment connected to the audio output 
    sockets/jacks on the TV.
    Audio Out VariableWhen using an external audio system, volume output from 
    audio out can be controlled using the TV’s remote.
    FixedThe audio output of the TV is fixed. Use your audio 
    receiver’s volume control to adjust the volume (and other 
    audio settings) through your audio system.
    Headphone Settingsi Speaker LinkSwitches the TV’s internal speakers on/off when you connect 
    headphones to the TV.
    i Vo l u m eAdjusts the volume of the headphones when “i Speaker 
    Link” is set to “Off.”
    i Dual SoundSets the sound from the headphones for a bilingual broadcast.
    Optical OutSets the audio signal that is output from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) 
    jack of the TV. Set to “Auto,” when connecting equipment compatible with Dolby 
    Digital. Set to “PCM,” when connecting equipment not compatible with Dolby 
    Digital.
    Set-up
    USB Auto StartAutomatically starts photo playback when the TV is turned on and a digital still 
    camera or other device storing photo files is connected to the USB port then turned 
    on.
    ~
     Playback does not start automatically if the TV is turned on after connecting the 
    digital still camera or other device to the USB port.
    Quick StartThe TV turns on faster than usual by turning on the power using the remote. 
    However, power consumption in standby mode is approximately 16 watts higher 
    than usual. Up to 3 out of 5 time zones can be set.

    Using Menu Functions
    Video LabelsAssigns an icon or name to equipment connected to the side and rear sockets/jacks. 
    The icon and name appear briefly on the screen when you select the equipment. 
    1Press F/f to select the desired input source, then press  .
    Skip InputsFor each input, sets whether or not to display on the Home 
    Menu or in a list of inputs that will appear when you press 
    .
    Auto
    Displays the icon and name only when the equipment is 
    connected.
    Always Display
    Always displays the icon and name regardless of whether or 
    not the equipment is connected.
    Skip
    Does not display the icon and name even if the equipment is 
    connected.
    2Press g to assign an icon and name.
    Label InputsUses preset labels to assign a name to connected equipment.
    Allows you to create your own label when you select “Edit.”
    Edit
    Allows you to edit the name in the edit screen and choose the 
    appropriate icon.
    Video 1 Input/OutputSwitches the video jack  1 and audio jack  1 between input and output 
    modes.
    When set to “Output,” outputs whatever is being viewed on the screen (except 
    signals from the /1 or 2, HDMI IN1, 2, 3, or 4, and /PC IN sockets/
    jacks).
    Auto S VideoSets the input signal from S video socket/jack  Video 1 when you have 
    equipment connected to the  Video 1 and  Video 1 sockets/jacks.
    Video 3/Component 1 
    InputSwitches the component video jack  1 and the video jack  3.
    ~
    You cannot use the component video jack  1 and the video jack  3 at the 
    same time.
    HDMI Set-upAllows the TV to communicate with equipment that is compatible with the control 
    for HDMI function, and connected to the HDMI sockets/jacks of the TV. Note that 
    communication settings must also be made on the connected equipment.
    Control for HDMISets whether or not to link the operations of the TV and the 
    connected equipment that is compatible with control for 
    HDMI. When set to “On,” the following functions are 
    available.
    If the specific Sony equipment that is compatible with control 
    for HDMI is connected, this setting is applied to the 
    connected equipment automatically when the “Control for 
    HDMI” is set to “On” using the TV.
    Auto Devices OffWhen this is set to “On,” the connected equipment that is 
    compatible with control for HDMI turns off when you turn 
    off the TV.
    Auto TV OnWhen this is set to “On,” the TV turns on when you turn on 
    the connected equipment that is compatible with control for 
    HDMI.
    HDMI Device ListDisplays a list of connected equipment that is compatible 
    with control for HDMI.
    ~
     You cannot use “Control for HDMI” if the TV operations are linked to the 
    operations of an audio system that is compatible with control for HDMI.

    Auto Start-upYou can run the initial set-up that appeared when you first connected the TV, and 
    select the language and country/area, the region (Australian model only), or tune in 
    all available channels again.
    Even if you have made the settings when you first connected the TV, you may need 
    to change the settings after moving house, or to search for newly launched 
    channels.
    LanguageSets the language displayed on the menu screens.
    Product InformationDisplays product information of the TV.
    Factory SettingsResets all settings to factory settings except for the “Programme Block” setting, 
    “Favourite” setting, and programme preset data. After completing this process, the 
    initial set-up screen is displayed. Completing auto tuning in initial set-up will reset 
    the settings that are not reset by “Factory Settings.” To retain the settings, skip the 
    “Auto Tuning.”
    Analogue Set-up
    Programme List 
    DisplaySelect “Off” to hide the list of analogue channels from the XMB™ 
    (XrossMediaBar).
    1 Digit DirectWhen “1 Digit Direct” is set to “On,” you can select an analogue channel using one 
    preset number button (0 – 9) on the remote.
    ~
     When “1 Digit Direct” is set to “On,” you cannot select channel numbers 10 and 
    above by entering two digits on the remote.
    Favourite Set-upAllows you to set your favourite channels by assigning the desired channel 
    numbers.
    To reset the favourite channels, select “– – –.”
    Auto TuningTunes in all the available analogue channels.
    You can retune the TV after moving house, or to search for newly launched 
    channels. 
    Programme SortingChanges the order of analogue channels stored in the TV.
    1Press F/f to select the channel you want to move to a new position, then press 
    .
    2Press F/f to select the new position for the channel, then press  .
    Programme LabelsAssigns a channel name of your choice, up to five letters or numbers. The name 
    appears briefly on the screen when you select the channel.
    1Press F/f to select the channel you want to name, then press  .
    2Press F/f to select the desired letter or number (“_” for a blank space), then 
    press g.
    If you enter a wrong character
    Press G/g to select the wrong character. Then, press F/f to select the correct 
    character.
    3Repeat step 2 until you finish entering the name.
    4Press   to exit the labeling procedure.
    Programme BlockBlocks an individual channel from being watched.
    1Press F/f to select the channel you want to block, then press  .
    2Press F/f to select “Block,” then press  .
    To watch the channel, select “Allow.”
    Intelligent Picture On with IndicatorAutomatically reduces the picture noise. The signal level bar 
    is displayed when the channel is changed or the display is 
    changed from an input screen to a TV programme.
    OnAutomatically reduces the picture noise.

    Using Menu Functions
    OffTurns off the “Intelligent Picture” feature.
    Manual Programme 
    PresetTo preset a channel, press PROG +/– to select the programme number, before 
    selecting “Label,” “AFT,” “Audio Filter,” “Skip,” “LNA” or “Colour System.” You 
    cannot select a programme number that is set to “Skip” (page 39).

    FrequencyPresets programme channels manually.
    1Press F/f to select “Programme,” then press  .
    2Press F/f to select the programme number you want to 
    manually tune (if tuning a VCR, select programme 0), 
    then press  .
    3Press F/f to select “TV System,” then press  .
    4Press F/f to select the best received TV broadcast 
    systems, then press  .
    5Press F/f to select “Frequency,” then press  .
    6Press G/g to search for the next available channel. The 
    frequency band (“VHF Low,” “VHF High” or “UHF”) is 
    changed accordingly.
    LabelAssigns a name of your choice to the selected channel. This 
    name appears briefly on the screen when you select the 
    channel. 
    To input characters, follow steps 2 to 4 in “Programme 
    Labels” (page 38).
    AFTAllows you to fine-tune the selected channel manually if you 
    feel that a slight tuning adjustment may improve picture 
    quality.
    When “On” is selected, fine tuning adjustments are made 
    automatically.
    Audio FilterImproves the sound of individual channels when distortion 
    occurs in mono broadcasts (normally set to “Off”).
    ~
     You cannot receive stereo or dual sound when “Low” or 
    “High” is selected.
    SkipSkips unused analogue channels when you press PROG +/– 
    to select channels. To select channels you have programmed 
    to skip, use the corresponding number buttons.
    LNAImproves the picture quality of the channel (noisy picture) 
    when the broadcast signal is very weak (normally set to 
    “Off”).
    Colour SystemSelects the colour system (“Auto,” “PAL,” “SECAM”) 
    according to the channel.
    Signal LevelDisplays the signal level for programme currently being 
    watched.
    Digital Set-up
    Subtitle Set-up Subtitle SettingWhen set to “For Hard Of Hearing,” visual aids for the 
    hearing impaired are displayed with the subtitles (when such 
    visual aids are available).
    Preferred 
    LanguageAllows you to select the language of the subtitles.
    Audio Set-up Audio TypeSwitches to broadcast for the hearing impaired when you 
    select “For Hard Of Hearing.”

    Preferred 
    LanguageSets the language to be used for a programme. Some digital 
    channels may broadcast several audio languages for a 
    programme.
    Audio 
    Description Provides audio description (narration) of visual information, 
    when such information is available.
    Mixing Level Adjusts the TV main audio and Audio Description output 
    levels.
    Dynamic Range Compensates for differences in the audio level between 
    different channels (only for Dolby Digital audio).
    ~
    • The function may have no effect or the effect may vary 
    depending on the programme regardless of the “Dynamic 
    Range” setting.
    MPEG Audio 
    Level Adjusts the MPEG audio sound level.
    Digital Tuning Digital Auto  TuningTunes in the available digital channels.
    You can retune the TV after moving house, or to search for 
    newly launched channels.
    Programme 
    Sorting Allows you to remove or change the order of digital channels 
    stored in the TV.
    1Press 
    F/f  to select the channel you want to remove or 
    move to a new position.
    2Remove or change the order of the digital channels as 
    follows:
    To remove a digital channel
    Press  . After a confirmation message appears, press  G 
    to select “Yes,” then press  .
    To change the order of the digital channels
    Press  g, then press  F/f  to select the new position for the 
    channel and press  G.
    3Press  RETURN .
    Digital Manual 
    Tuning Tunes the digital channels manually.
    1Press the number buttons to enter the channel number 
    you want to tune, or press 
    F/f .
    2When the available channels are found, press  F/f  to 
    select the channel you want to store, then press  .
    3Press  F/f  to select the channel number where you want 
    to store the new channel, then press  .
    Repeat the above procedure to tune other channels.
    LNA Improves the picture quality of the channel (noisy picture) 
    when the broadcast signal is very weak (normally set to 
    “On”).
    Radio Display Displays the screen wallpaper when you listen to a radio broadcast. You can select 
    the screen wallpaper colour, display a random colour or view a slideshow (page 24, 
    28). To cancel the screen wallpaper display temporarily, press any button.
