31 GB Using MENU Functions HDMI Set-upAllows the TV to communicate with the connected “Control for HDMI” compatible equipment. Note that communication settings must also be made on the connected equipment. Control for HDMISets whether or not to link the operations of the TV and the connected equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI. When set to “On”, the following menu items can be performed. If the specific Sony equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI is connected, this setting is applied to the connected equipment automatically when the “Control for HDMI” is set to “On” using the TV. Auto Devices OffWhen this is set to “On”, the connected equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI turns off when you switch the TV to standby mode using the remote. Auto TV OnWhen this is set to “On”, the TV turns on when you turn on the connected equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI. Device List UpdateCreates or updates the “HDMI Device List”. Up to 11 compatible equipment items can be connected, and up to 5 equipment items can be connected to a single jack. Be sure to update the “HDMI Device List” when you change the connections or settings. If the specific Sony equipment that is compatible with control for HDMI is connected, “Control for HDMI” is applied to the connected equipment automatically when the “Device List Update” is executed on the TV. HDMI Device ListDisplays the connected “Control for HDMI” compatible equipment. ~ You cannot use “Control for HDMI” if the TV operations are linked to the operations of an audio system that is compatible with control for HDMI. Product InformationDisplays product information of the TV. Factory SettingsResets all settings to factory settings except for the “Programme Block” setting, “Digital Favourites” setting, and programme preset data. After completing this process, the initial set-up screen is displayed. Completing auto tuning in initial set- up will reset the settings that are not reset by “Factory Settings”. To retain the settings, select “Cancel” in the auto tuning confirmation dialog. ~ Do not turn off the TV or press any buttons during “Factory Settings” (takes about 30 seconds). LNAImproves the picture quality of the channel (noisy picture) when the broadcast signal is very weak. If you cannot see any improvement in the picture quality even if you set to “On”, set this option to “Off” (factory setting). Audio FilterImproves the sound of individual channels when distortion occurs in mono broadcasts. Sometimes a non-standard broadcast signal can cause sound distortion or intermittent sound muting in mono programmes. If you do not experience any sound distortion, we recommend that you leave this option to “Off” (factory setting). ~ You cannot receive stereo or dual sound when “Low” or “High” is selected. SkipSkips unused analogue channels when you press PROG +/– to select channels. To select channels you have programmed to skip, use the corresponding number buttons.

Set to “Auto” when equipment compatible with Dolby Digital is connected, and set to “PCM” when noncompatible equipment is connected. Radio DisplayDisplays the screen wallpaper when you listen to a radio broadcast. You can select the screen wallpaper colour, display a random colour or view a slide show (page 23). To cancel the screen wallpaper display temporarily, press any button. Parental LockSets a parental guidance level. 37 GB Additional Information Troubleshooting Check whether the 1 (standby) indicator is flashing in red. When the 1 (standby) indicator is flashing The self-diagnosis function is activated. 1Count how many times the 1 (standby) indicator flashes between each two second break. For example, the indicator may flash three times, go off for two seconds, then flash again three times. 2Press 1 on the TV to turn it off, disconnect the AC power cord, and inform your dealer or Sony service centre of how the indicator flashes (number of flashes). When the 1 (standby) indicator is not flashing 1Check the items in the tables below. 2If the problem persists, have your TV serviced by qualified service personnel. ConditionExplanation/Solution Picture There is no picture (screen is dark) and no sound. Check the antenna connection. Connect the TV to the AC power, and press 1 on the TV. If the 1 (standby) indicator lights up in red, press "/1. No picture or menu information from equipment connected to the video input jack appears on the screen. Press / to display the list of connected equipment, then select the desired input. Check the connection between the optional equipment and the TV. Ghosting occurs, or double images appear. Check the antenna connection. Check the antenna location and direction. Only snow and noise appear on the screen. Check if the antenna is broken or bent. Check if the antenna has reached the end of its serviceable life (three to five years for normal use, one to two years when used at the seaside). The picture is distorted (dotted lines or stripes appear). Keep the TV away from electrical noise sources such as cars, motorcycles, hair-dryers, or optical equipment. When installing optional equipment, leave some space between the optional equipment and the TV. Check the antenna connection. Keep the antenna TV cable away from other connecting cables. There is picture or sound noise when viewing a TV channel. Adjust “AFT” (Automatic Fine Tuning) to obtain better picture reception (page 32). Tiny black points and/or bright points appear on the screen The screen is composed of pixels. Tiny black points and/or bright points (pixels) on the screen do not indicate a malfunction. The picture contours are distorted. Select “Auto” in “Cinema Drive” (page 28). The picture is not displayed in colour. Select “Reset” (page 26). The picture from equipment connected to the 1 or 2 jacks is not displayed in colour, or is displayed in irregular colours. Check the connection of the 1 or 2 jacks and check if the jacks are firmly seated in their respective jacks. (Continued)
38 GB Sound The picture is good, but there is no sound.• Press 2 +/– or % (Mute). Check if the “Speaker” is set to “TV Speaker” (page 30). When using HDMI input with Super Audio CD or DVD-Audio, DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) may not output audio signals. Channels You cannot select your desired channel. Switch between digital and analogue mode, and select the desired digital/analogue channel. Some channels are blank. The channel is for scrambled/subscription service only. Subscribe to a pay TV service. The channel is used only for data (no picture or sound). Contact the broadcaster for transmission details. You cannot view digital channels. Contact a local installer to find out if digital transmissions are provided in your area. Upgrade to a higher gain antenna. General The TV turns off automatically (the TV enters standby mode). Check if the “Sleep Timer” is activated, or confirm the “Duration” setting of “On Timer Settings” (page 28). If no signal is received and no operation is performed in the TV mode for 10 minutes, the TV automatically switches to standby mode. The TV turns on automatically. Check if the “On Timer Settings” is activated (page 28). Some input sources cannot be selected. Select “Video Labels” and cancel the “Skip” setting for the input source (page 30). The remote does not function. Replace the batteries. You cannot add a channel to the Favourite list. Up to 999 channels can be stored in the Favourite list. HDMI equipment does not appear on “HDMI Device List”. Check that your equipment is compatible with control for HDMI. You cannot select “Off” in “Control for HDMI”. If you have connected any audio system that is compatible with control for HDMI, you cannot select “Off” in this menu. If you want to change the audio output to the TV speaker, select “TV Speaker” in the “Speaker” menu (page 30). Not all channels are tuned for cable. If you have connected the VCR to the TV, we recommend inserting a pre-recorded tape into a VCR before you start auto tuning for fast tuning.
