A frayed or damaged power cord may lead to a fire or an electric shock. •When you install this unit, do not squeeze the power cord between this unit and a wall or a rack. Do not place this unit in an environment with poor ventilation and do not cover the air vent openings. Do not block heat naturally radiating from this unit by covering the air vent openings with cloth, placing it on a carpet with long fur or a bed, or placing it close to a wall of a piece of furniture. This unit may overheat, causing a fire or an electric shock. Do not listen at a high volume for an extended period of time. Listening at a high volume for an extended period of time may damage your hearing ability. ,Adjust the volume to a level where you can hear others calling you. Place this unit in a stable environment. Placing this unit on an unbalanced table or on a slant surface may cause this unit to fall off, leading to serious injury. Also, check the degree of strength of the place or the rack where you install this unit. Plug the power plug in the electrical outlet with easy access. 5US Safety Notes on Batteries To avoid loss of eyesight caused by battery leakage, explosion, and overheating, make sure you observe the following instructions. In case batteries leak? Do not touch the battery liquid with bare hands. In case the battery liquid has got into your eyes or splashed onto your body or clothes, you may lose your eyesight, get injured, or have inflammation on your skin. The symptoms may appear later after exposure due to a chemical change in the battery liquid. Make sure you carry out the following emergency treatment. ,In case the battery liquid has got into your eyes, do not rub your eyes, but immediately wash your eyes thoroughly with clean water and consult your doctor for treatment. ,In case the battery liquid has splashed onto your body or clothes, immediately wash them with clean water. If irritation or inflammation develops on your skin, consult your doctor for treatment. Notes on Use Notes on Placement Do not place this unit in the following locations: On an unbalanced table or in an unstable location On a carpet or a bed In a damp environment or a place with poor ventilation In a dusty environment In an environment exposed to direct sunlight or a hot place. In an extremely cold environment. In a place close to a tuner, a television, or a video deck. (If you use this unit close to a tuner, a television, or a video deck, noise may occur, or the image on your television screen may appear distorted. These phenomena take place especially when you use an indoor antenna. It is recommended that you use an outdoor antenna.) In a place close to appliances generating a strong magnetic field, such as a microwave and a large speaker. Notes on Installation Do not place a heavy object on this unit. Adjusting the volume Compared to records, discs are designed to minimize noise. Just like when you play a record, adjusting the volume corresponding to the level of the noise between sounds may lead to an unexpectedly loud volume, causing damage to your speakers. Make sure you turn down the volume before you play music. Manners when listening to stereo music When listening to stereo music, adjust the volume not to disturb the comfort or repose of any person in the vicinity. Especially at night, even a small sound reaches far and wide. Shut your windows or use headphones to give consideration to others in your neighborhood and preserve a pleasant living environment. 7US Cleaning this unit Wipe off the dirt on the cabinet or the panels of this unit with soft cloth soaked with neutral detergent. Do not use any polishing pads, polishing liquid, paint thinner, benzene, or alcohol, as they may damage the surface. In case of uneven color on your television screen If the speakers of this unit cause uneven color on your television screen, turn off your television and turn it on again in 15 to 30 minutes.
