While transmitting the code from the remote, the TV button flashes. If this function does not work, change the transmit time. The transmit time varies depending on the TV. To change the transmit time Press and hold TV CH + while entering the code for transmit time (see the table) using the number buttons. The transmit time from the remote is selected. If you successfully set the transmit time code, the TV button flashes twice slowly. If the setting is unsuccessful, the TV button flashes 5 times quickly. This function is only for SONY TVs. (This function may not work on some SONY TVs.) If distance between TV and this system is too far, this function may not work. Install the system near the TV. Keep the remote pointed in the direction of the TV and this system while the TV button is flashing. 82GB Selecting the connected component You can use a VCR or other components connected to the VIDEO or SAT jacks on the rear panel. Refer to the operation manual supplied with the components for further information on the operation. Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “VIDEO” or “SAT” appears in the front panel display. Each time you press FUNCTION, the mode of the system changes in the following sequence. DVD t TUNER FM t TUNER AM t VIDEO t SAT t DVD t …You can enjoy multiplex broadcast sound when the system receive the AC-3 multiplex broadcast signal. To receive the AC-3 signal, you need to connect a digital satellite tuner to the system with an optical cable (page 35) and set the digital output mode of the digital satellite tuner to AC-3. When you connect the system and TV with the HDMI cord, this function does not apply to the sound that is output from the TV. The main sound is output from the TV. Presetting radio stations You can preset 20 FM stations, and 10 AM stations. Before tuning, make sure to turn down the volume to minimum. 1Press FUNCTION repeatedly until the band you want appears in the front panel display. 2Press and hold TUNING + or – until the auto scanning starts. Scanning stops when the system tunes in a station. “TUNED” and “ST” (for stereo program) appear in the front panel display. 3Press TUNER MENU. 4Press C/X/x/c repeatedly until “Memory?” appears in the front panel display. 5Press ENTER. 84GB 6Press X/x to select the preset number you want. 7Press ENTER. The station is stored. 8Repeat 1 to 7 to store other stations. To change the preset number Restart from Step 1. To change the AM tuning interval (except for Middle Eastern model) The AM tuning interval can be set to either 10 kHz or 9 kHz. To change the AM tuning interval, first tune in any AM station, then turn off the system by pressing "/1 on the system. While holding down > (on the system), press "/1 on the system to turn on the power. If you change the interval, AM preset stations will be erased. To reset the interval, repeat the same procedure. Listening to the radio Preset radio stations in the system’s memory first (see “Presetting radio stations” (page 83)). 1Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “FM” or “AM” appears in the front panel display. The last received station is tuned in. 2Press PRESET + or – repeatedly to select the preset station you want. Each time you press the button, the system tunes in one preset station. 3Adjust the volume by pressing VOLUME +/–. To turn off the radio Press "/1. To listen to non-preset radio stations Use manual or automatic tuning in Step 2. For manual tuning, press TUNING + or – repeatedly. For automatic tuning, press and hold TUNING + or –. Press x when you stop the automatic tuning. If an FM program is noisy, press FM MODE so that “MONO” appears in the front panel display. There will be no stereo effect, but the reception will improve. Press the button again to restore the stereo effect. To improve reception, reorient the supplied antennas (aerials). You can check the frequency by pressing DISPLAY repeatedly (page 65). Naming preset stations You can enter a name for preset stations. These names (for example, “XYZ”) appear in the system’s front panel display when a station is selected. Note that no more than one name can be entered for each preset station. 1Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “FM” or “AM” appears in the front panel display. The last station you received is tuned in. 2Press PRESET + or – repeatedly to select the preset station you want to create an index name for. 3Press TUNER MENU. 4Press C/X/x/c repeatedly until “Name In?” appears in the front panel display. 5Press ENTER. 6Create a name by using the cursor buttons. 86GB When the microphone output function is on, “ ” lights up in the front panel display. You can also turn the karaoke mode on by pressing KARAOKE or KEYCON #/b. 3Start playing the music. Microphone sound is output when you play a disc with DVD function. To exit from karaoke mode The system exits from karaoke mode when – you disconnect the microphone from the MIC jack, – press KARAOKE to set the Karaoke Pon mode (page 87) to off, and – press KEYCON #/b to set the key to OFF (page 86). Before connecting, press MIC VOL – to set the microphone volume to minimum. If you set the karaoke mode to on, the sound field is set to “2 CHANNEL STEREO” automatically and the sound is output from the front speakers and center speaker only. You cannot select the sound field during connecting the microphone. When you play the Super Audio CD layer of the Super Audio CD (page 8), the karaoke mode set to off automatically. If you set [TEST TONE] to [ON] (page 96) during the karaoke mode, the karaoke mode is set to off automatically. Microphone sound is not output when: – the microphone is not connected to the system properly. – the microphone volume is set to minimum. The karaoke play is performed with the audio channel you selected using AUDIO (page 68). Adjusting the microphone You can adjust the microphone volume and level of the echo effect. To adjust the microphone volume Press MIC VOL +/– to adjust the microphone volume. To add the echo effect Press ECHO. Each time you press ECHO, the echo level changes as follows: To cancel the echo effect, select “ECHO OFF.” If howling occurs: – move the microphone away from the speakers. – lower the microphone volume or echo level. – lower the overall volume. Changing the key (Key Control) You can change the key to suit your vocal range. While playing karaoke, press KEY CON #/b repeatedly to find the key that suits your vocal range. You can adjust the key in 13 half-tone steps (6 steps higher, 6 steps lower and the original key). The key appears in the front panel display. You may not be able to change the key depending on the disc. The key automatically returns to the original key when: – you turn off the power. – you change the function. – you remove the disc. – you change the disc. – you stop playback. – the title or track changes. – you change the album. – the play item is changed during PBC playback. Other Operations 87GB Dolby Digital Karaoke format (DVD only) Dolby Digital format, which reproduces surround sound using 5 channels, can also contain the “Dolby Digital Karaoke” format which is specialized for karaoke. In the Dolby Digital Karaoke format discs, guide melody and guide vocal tracks are recorded in addition to the accompaniment. You can select them when the system is in karaoke mode. Speaker output in normal Dolby Digital format (5 channel surround) Speaker output in Dolby Digital Karaoke format You can check the audio information using AUDIO (page 68). Example: Playing karaoke with any stereo disc (Karaoke Pon) You can enjoy karaoke with a stereo-recorded disc, even if it is a non-karaoke disc, by reducing the sound of the vocals. Press KARAOKE while playing a disc in karaoke mode. The Karaoke Pon mode set to on and reduce the sound of the vocals. “KARA PON” appears in the front panel display. To set the karaoke pon mode to off Press KARAOKE again. “KARA OFF” appears in the front panel display. This function may not work well in the following cases: – Only a few instruments are playing. – A duet is playing. – The vocals on the disc deviate from the center. – Monaural-recorded discs (the accompaniment is also reduced) – A Multiplex disc is playing. During the Karaoke Pon mode, the stereo effect is reduced. Each time you press this button, the minutes display (the remaining time) changes as follows: To check the remaining time Press SLEEP once. 90GB By using the Setup Display, you can make various adjustments to items such as picture and sound. You can also set a language for the subtitles and the Setup Display, among other things. Playback settings stored in the disc take priority over the Setup Display settings and not all the functions described may work. 1Press DISPLAY when the system is in stop mode. The Control Menu appears. 2Press X/x to select [SETUP], then press ENTER. The options for [SETUP] appear. 3Press X/x to select [CUSTOM], then press ENTER.
