select MENU → (Setup) → [Date/Time Setup] or [Area Setting]. Note If the date and time setting is canceled halfway, the setting screen for\ the date and time appears every time you turn on the camera. This camera does not have a function for inserting the date on images. Y\ ou can insert the date on images and then save and print them using PlayMemories Home (for Window\ s only). [28] Preparing the camera In-Camera Guide The [In-Camera Guide] displays descriptions of MENU items, Fn (Function) items, and settings. Assign the [In-Camera Guide] function to the desired key in advance using [Custom Key(Shoot.)]. [29] Shooting Shooting still images MENU → (Camera Settings2) → [Custom Key(Shoot.)] → desired key, then assign the [In-Camera Guide] function to the key. The [In-Camera Guide] function cannot be assigned to some keys.1 Select the MENU or Fn item of which you want to see descriptions, then p\ ress the button to which the [In-Camera Guide] function is assigned. Hint When the product cannot focus automatically, the focus indicator flashes\ and the beep does not sound. Either recompose the shot or change the focus setting. Menu item details (Single-shot AF): The product locks the focus once focusing is complete. Use this when the\ subject is motionless. (Automatic AF): [Single-shot AF] and [Continuous AF] are switched according to the movem\ ent of the subject. When the shutter button is pressed halfway down, the product locks the f\ ocus when it determines that the subject is motionless, or continues to focus when th\ e subject is in motion. During continuous shooting, the product automatically shoots with Contin\ uous AF from the second shot. (Continuous AF): The product continues to focus while the shutter button is pressed and h\ eld halfway down. Use this when the subject is in motion. In [Continuous AF] mode, there is no beep when the camera focuses. (DMF): You can make fine adjustments manually after the focus is locked, lettin\ g you focus on a subject more quickly than when using the manual focus from the beginning. This i\ s convenient in situations such as macro shooting. (Manual Focus): Adjusts the focus manually. If you cannot focus on the intended subject \ using auto focus, use manual focus. Focus indicator (lit): The subject is in focus and the focus is locked. (flashing): The subject is not in focus. (lit): The subject is in focus. The focus will be adjusted continuously accordi\ ng to the movements of the subject. (lit): Focusing is in progress. Subjects on which it is difficult to focus using auto focus Dark and distant subjects Subjects with poor contrast Subjects seen through glass Fast-moving subjects Reflective light or shiny surfaces Flashing light Back-lit subjects Continuously repetitive patterns, such as the facades of buildings Subjects in the focusing area with different focal distances Note [Automatic AF] is available only when you are using a lens that supports\ phase detection AF.

When [Continuous AF] or [Automatic AF] is set, the angle of view may cha\ nge little by little while focusing. This does not affect the actual recorded images. Only [Continuous AF] and [Manual Focus] are available in the movie shoot\ ing mode. Hint In [Continuous AF] mode, you can lock the focus by pressing and holding \ the button that has been assigned the [Focus Hold] function. [31] ShootingAuto focus Focus Area Selects the focusing area. Use this function when it is difficult to foc\ us properly in the auto focus mode. Menu item details Wide : Focuses on a subject covering the whole range of the screen automaticall\ y. When you press the shutter button halfway down in the still image shooting mode, a gree\ n frame is displayed around the area that is in focus. Zone : Select a zone on the monitor on which to focus, and the product will aut\ omatically select a focus area. Center : Focuses automatically on a subject in the center of the image. Use toget\ her with the focus-lock function to create the composition you want. Flexible Spot : Allows you to move the focusing frame to a desired point on the screen a\ nd focus on an extremely small subject in a narrow area. Expand Flexible Spot : If the product cannot focus on a single selected point, it uses focus po\ ints around the flexible spot as a secondary priority area for focusing. Lock-on AF : When the shutter button is pressed and held halfway down, the product tr\ acks the subject within the selected autofocus area. This setting is available only when the focus mode is set to [Continuous AF]. Point the cursor at [Lock-on AF] on the [Focus Area] se\ tting screen, and then adjust the desired area to start tracking using the left/right sides of \ the control wheel. When focus is achieved automatically based on the whole range of the mon\ itor When you use a zoom function other than the optical zoom, the [Focus Area] setting is disabled and the focus area frame is shown by the dotted line. The AF op\ erates with priority on and around the center area. To move the focus area When [Focus Area] is set to [Zone], [Flexible Spot] or [Expand Flexible \ Spot], if pressing the button to which [Focus Standard] is assigned, you can shoot while moving\ the focus area

using the top/bottom/left/right sides of the control wheel. To change th\ e shooting settings using the control wheel, press the button to which [Focus Standard] is assigned. You can move the focusing frame quickly by touching and dragging it on t\ he monitor. Set [Touch Operation] to other than [Off] beforehand. Note [Focus Area] is locked to [Wide] in the following situations: [Intelligent Auto] [Superior Auto] [Scene Selection] During Smile Shutter mode The focus area may not light up during continuous shooting or when the s\ hutter button is pressed all the way down at once. When the mode dial is set to (Movie/S&Q Motion) or during movie shooting, [Lock-on AF] cannot be selected as the [Focus Area]. When [Focus Area] is set to [Wide] or [Zone], the size of the AF range f\ inder frame may be automatically adjusted according to the subject and the composition as f\ ollows: When focusing on a wider area such as a landscape: A larger AF range fin\ der frame is displayed. When focusing on a smaller area such as flowers or small items: A smalle\ r AF range finder frame is displayed. You cannot perform functions assigned to the top/bottom/left/right sides\ of the control wheel or the custom button 3 while moving the focusing frame. [32] ShootingAuto focus Phase detection AF When there are phase detection AF points within the auto focus area, the\ product uses the combined autofocus of the phase detection AF and contrast AF. Note When the F-value is greater than F11, you cannot use the Phase Detection\ AF. Only Contrast AF is available. Phase detection AF is available only when an applicable lens is attached\ . If you use a lens that does not support focal plane phase detection AF, you cannot use [Automatic AF], [ AF Track Sens] or [ AF drive speed]. Also, even if you use a previously purchased applicable lens, the phase \ detection AF might not function unless you update the lens.

[33] ShootingAuto focus Focus Standard If you assign [Focus Standard] to the desired custom key, you can recall\ useful functions such as moving the focusing frame quickly, etc., depending on the focus area \ settings. When [Focus Area] is set to [Zone], [Flexible Spot] or [Expand Flexible Spot]:You can move the position of the focus area using the top/bottom/left/ri\ ght sides of the control wheel. When [Focus Area] is set to [Wide] or [Center]: When [Center Lock-on AF] is set to [On], [Center Lock-on AF] is activate\ d by pressing the key. The camera detects the subject positioned in the center of the scre\ en and starts tracking by pressing the center of the control wheel. When [Center Lock-on AF] is set to [Off], the camera focuses on the center point. Note You cannot set the [Focus Standard] function to [Left Button], [Right Bu\ tton] or [Down Button]. [34] ShootingAuto focus AF/MF control You can easily switch the focusing mode from auto to manual and vice ver\ sa while shooting without changing your holding position. MENU → (Camera Settings2) → [Custom Key(Shoot.)] → desired button, then assign the [Focus Standard] function to the button.1 Press the key to which [Focus Standard] is assigned. What you can do by pressing the key varies depending on the settings for\ [Focus Area] and [Center Lock-on AF].2 Switch the AF/MF/AEL switch lever to the AF/MF position, then press the AF/MF button. 1

During auto focus: Temporarily switches the focusing mode to manual. Adjust the focus by tu\ rning the focus ring (A) while holding down the AF/MF button. During manual focus: Temporarily switches the focusing mode to auto while the AF/MF button is held down, and locks the focus. Hint If you select [AF/MF Ctrl Toggle] in [AF/MF Button] under [Custom Key(Shoot.)], the focusing mode remains switched even if you remove your finger from the button. Note You cannot set the [AF/MF Control Hold] function to [Left Button], [Righ\ t Button] or [Down Button] of the control wheel. [35] ShootingAuto focus AF w/ shutter (still image) Selects whether to focus automatically when you press the shutter button\ halfway down. Select [Off] to adjust the focus and the exposure separately. Menu item details On: The auto focus operates when you press the shutter button halfway down. Useful method to micro-adjust the focus When an A-mount lens is attached, activating the auto focus function wit\ h a button other than the shutter button lets you focus more precisely in combination with man\ ual focusing. [36] Shooting Auto focus AF On You can focus using any button instead of pressing the shutter button ha\ lfway down. The settings for [Focus Mode] will be applied.Hint Set [AF w/ shutter] to [Off] when you do not want to perform auto focusing using the shutter button. Set [ AF w/ shutter], [Pre-AF], and [Eye-Start AF] to [Off] to focus at a specific shooting distance predicting the position of the subject. [37] ShootingAuto focus Eye AF Set [AF w/ shutter] to [Off].1. MENU → (Camera Settings2) → [Custom Key(Shoot.)] → assign the [AF On] and [Focus Magnifier] functions to the desired keys.2. Set [Eye-Start AF] to [Off] to avoid auto focusing when you look through the viewfinder.3. Press the key to which the [AF On] function is assigned.4. Press the key to which the [Focus Magnifier] function is assigned, and t\ hen rotate the focus ring for micro-adjustments of the focus.5. Press the shutter button fully down to shoot the image.6.
