Settings 116 : Move this app to your microSD card. Clear data: Clear application data from memory. Clear cache: Clear an app’s temporary memory storage. Clear defaults: Clear an app’s customization. Permissions: View information about the app’s access to your device and data. SD Card Displays apps you have downloaded onto your SD card. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Application manager. 2.Touch SD CARD to view a list of all the downloaded applications on your device. 3.To switch the order of the SD CARD list, touch Menu ➔ Sort by size or Sort by name. 4.To reset your application preferences, touch Menu ➔ Reset app preferences. Note: When you Reset app preferences, you will not lose any app data. 5.Touch an application to view and update information about the application, including memory usage, default settings, and permissions. Running Ser vices View and control services running on your device. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Application manager. 2.To u c h t h e RUNNING tab. All the applications that are currently running on the device display. 3.To u c h Show cached processes to display all the cached processes that are running. Touch Show services in use to switch back.

Users have their own space, which they can customize with their own apps, wallpaper, and so on. Users can also adjust tablet settings like Wi-Fi that affect everyone. Restricted profiles are restricted accounts that allow only limited access to apps and content. Setting Up Users and Profiles By setting up multiple user profiles, several users can share the device without affecting the personal settings of others, such as email accounts, wallpaper preferences, and more. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Users. 2.To u c h Add user and select User or Restricted profile. 3.Follow the onscreen prompts to set up the account.
Settings 118 Changing Users To access the device with a user profile, select a profile at the top right of the locked screen. Tip: You can also switch between users by sliding down the Notification Panel and touching the current user. Change User Account Nicknames and Photo IDs The photo and name each user uses in their personal Contact entry (listed under ME at the top of their Contacts list) is used as their User account ID. To change a user’s photo or name: 1.To u c h Contacts. 2.Touch their personal Contact entry to edit their Contact information. For more information, refer to “My Personal Contact” on page 37. – or – 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Users. 2.To u c h Menu and edit the user’s personal Contact entry.
119 Deleting a User or Profile Each user can only delete their own account, while the Owner can delete any user account. If you are the Owner: 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Users. 2.Touch a user, and then touch Delete. If you are a User: 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Users. 2.Touch Menu ➔ Delete [user] from this device. Batter y See how much battery power is used for device activities. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Battery. The battery level displays as a percentage. The amount of time the battery has been used also displays. Battery usage displays in percentages per application. 2.To u c h Screen, Android System, or Android OS to view how the display and the Android system are affecting battery use. Note: Other applications may be running that affect battery use. 3.To u c h Refresh to update the listing. 4.To u c h Show battery percentage to display the device battery status next to the battery icon.
Settings 120 Power Saving Mode When enabled, your device automatically analyzes the screen and adjusts the brightness to conserve battery power. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Power saving mode. 2.Touch the OFF/ON button to turn the feature ON 3.Turn Power saving on and touch the Power saving mode settings (CPU power saving or Screen power saving) to enable or disable them. 4.Touch Learn about power saving to display more information about conserving power. Storage View the device memory and usage, or mount, unmount, or format an optional memory card (not included). Device Memor y From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Storage. The Device memory displays as Total space, System memory, Used space, Cached data, Miscellaneous files, and Available space. SD Card Once a memory card has been installed in your device, the card memory displays as Total space and Available space. Mounting an SD Card When you install a memory card, it is automatically mounted (connected to the tablet) and prepared for use. However, should you unmount the card without removing it from the tablet, you will need to mount it before it can be accessed. 1.Install an SD card. For more information, refer to “Installing a Memory Card” on page 8. 2.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Storage. 3.To u c h Mount SD card.
121 Unmounting an SD Card Important! To prevent damage to information stored on the memory card, always unmount the card before removing it from the device. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Storage. 2.Touch Unmount SD card. 3.At the prompt, select OK to safely unmount the memory card. 4.Remove the SD card from the slot. For more information, refer to “Galaxy Tab Accessories” on page 8. Important! Unmounting an SD card will stop some applications from functioning. Applications may not be available until you mount the SD card again. Removing a Memor y Card Important! To prevent damage to information stored on the memory card, unmount the card before removing it from the device. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Storage. 2.Under SD card, touch Unmount SD card and then touchOK. 3.Open the memory card slot cover and turn to expose the slot. 4.Gently press inward on the memor y card so that it pops out from the slot, and carefully pull the card out. 5.Close the memory card slot cover.
Settings 122 Formatting an SD Card When formatting an SD card you will want to backup your music and photo files that are stored on the card because formatting the SD card deletes all the stored data. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Storage. 2.Touch Format SD card and then touch Format SD card again on the warning screen. 3.Touch Delete all. Security Use the Security settings to secure your device. Encr yption To require a numeric PIN or password to decrypt your tablet each time you power it on or encrypt the data on your SD card each time it is connected: 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Security. 2.To u c h Encrypt device. For more information, read the displayed help screen. 3.To u c h Encrypt external SD card to enable the encryption on SD card data that requires a password be entered each time the microSD card is connected. Tip: Make sure your battery is charged more than 80 percent. Encryption takes an hour or more.
123 Find My Mobile Use this option to allow your device to be locked and tracked, and for your data to be deleted remotely. You must sign up for a Samsung account and enable Google location service to use Remote controls. Sign In to Your Samsung Account 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Security. 2.Touch Remote controls. Read the information and touch OK to acknowledge the information. 3.Touch Add account to create a Samsung account. For more information about Samsung accounts, see “Your Samsung Account” on page 34. Enable or Disable Remote Controls Once you have signed in to your Samsung Account, you can enable or disable Remote controls. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Security ➔ Remote controls. 2.Enter your Samsung account password in the pop-up Enter password field and touch Done. The Introduction to remote controls screen displays. To u c h Do not show for 90 days to temporarily disable this screen. 3.To u c h OK. The Remote controls screen displays. 4.To u c h t h e OFF/ON button to turn the feature ON 5.To u c h Use wireless networks to enable location information using the wireless network.
Settings 124 Find My Mobile Web Page To launch the Find My Mobile web page: 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Security ➔ Go to the Find my mobile webpage. 2.Select which application to launch the application. Touch Internet or Chrome and select Always or Just once. The Find My Mobile webpage displays. 3.Follow the onscreen instructions. Passwords Briefly display password characters as you touch them while entering passwords. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Security. 2.Touch Make passwords visible to enable the feature. Device Administration To add or remove device administrators: 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Security. 2.To u c h Device administrators. To enable or disable installation of non-Google Play applications. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Security. 2.To u c h Unknown sources. An informational pop-up displays. 3.Read the message and touch OK to allow installation of non-Google Play applications. Warning! Enabling this option causes your tablet and personal data to be more vulnerable to attack by applications from unknown sources. 4.To block or warn before installing apps that may cause harm, touch Verify apps.
125 Security Update Ser vice To set security update service settings: 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Security. 2.Touch Security policy updates for these options: Automatic updates: Automatically check for changes to the security policy and download any updates to improve security. Check for updates: Check for updates manually. 3.Touch Send security reports to send security reports to Samsung via Wi-Fi for threat analysis. Credential Storage If a certificate authority (CA) certificate gets compromised or for some other reason you do not trust it, you can disable or remove it. 1.From the Settings screen, touch General tab ➔ Security. 2.To u c h Storage type to set a storage type for credential contents. 3.To u c h Trusted credentials. The trusted credentials screen has two tabs: : Displays CA certificates that are permanently installed in the ROM of your device. : Displays any CA certificates that you installed, for example, in the process of installing a client certificate. 4.Touch a CA certificate to examine its details. A scrolling screen displays the details. Scroll to the bottom of the details screen and touch Tu r n o f f to disable a System certificate.
