Setting the Language Depending on your TV type (Wide Screen or conventional 4:3), you can select the TVs aspect ratio. The horizontal to vertical screen size ratio of conventional TVs is 4:3, while that of widescreen and high definition TVs is 16:9. This ratio is called the aspect ratio. When playing DVDs recorded in different screen sizes, you should adjust the aspect ratio to fit your TV or monitor. For a standard TV, select either or option according to personal preference. You can enjoy the widescreen aspect. 4:3LB (4:3 Letterbox) Select this to play a 16:9 picture in the letter box mode on a conventional TV. Black bars will appear at the top and bottom of the screen. 4:3PS (4:3 Pan&Scan) Select this to play a 16:9 picture in the pan & scan mode on a conventional TV. You can see the central portion of the screen only (with the sides of the 16:9 picture cut off). Adjusting the TV Aspect Ratio (Screen Size) • If a DVD is in the 4:3 ratio, you cannot view it in widescreen. • Since DVD discs are recorded in various image formats, they will look different depending on the software, the type of TV, and the TV aspect ratio setting. If you have selected Level 6, you cannot view DVDs with Level 7 or higher. The higher the level, the closer the content is to violent or adult material. 5Enter the password and then press the ENTERbutton. The password is set to 7890 by default. Once the setup is complete, you will be taken to the previous screen. Press the RETURNbutton to return to the previous level. Press the MENUbutton to exit the setup screen. Setting Parental Controls (Rating Level) You can set the password for the Parental (rating level) setting. 1In Stop mode, press theMENUbutton. 2Press the Cursor button to move to and then press the ENTER button. 3Press the Cursor button to move to and then press the ENTERbutton. 4Press the ENTERbutton. 5Enter the password and then press the ENTERbutton. Enter the old password, a new password, and confirm new password. The setting is complete. Setting the Password • While the player is in No DIsc mode, hold the DVD Players STOP( ) button for longer than 5 seconds. “INITIAL” appears on the display and all settings will return to the default values. • Press the POWERbutton. Using the RESET function will erase all stored settings. Do not use this unless necessary. Setting the Speaker Mode Settings(Con’t) Some DVD-Audio discs contain DVD-Video as well as DVD-Audio. DVD Playback Mode • DVD Play mode is set to DVD Audio as factory default setting. • Powering off the main unit with a DVD-Audio disc will automatically switch to the DVD Audio mode. DivX (R) Registration • Powering off the main unit with an SACD inside will automatically switch to the SACD mode. Setting the Delay Time When 5.1CH Surround Sound is played, you can enjoy the best sound if the distance between you and each speaker is the same. Since the sounds arrive at the listening position at different times depending on the placement of speakers, you can adjust this difference by adding a delay effect to the sound of the Center and Surround Speakers. Setting CENTER SPEAKER If the distance of Dc is equal to or longer than the distance of Df in the figure, set the mode as 0ms. Otherwise, change the setting according to the table. Setting REAR (SURROUND) SPEAKERS If the distance of Df is equal to the distance of Ds in the figure, set the mode as 0ms. Otherwise, change the setting according to the table. Adjusting Center/Rear/Subwoofer Speaker Level • The volume level can be adjusted in steps from +6dB to –6dB. • The sound gets louder as you move closer to +6dB and quieter as you get closer to -6dB. Manually Adjusting the Speaker Volume and Balance with the SOUND EDIT Button. Video may look slower than the audio if it is connected to a digital TV. If this occurs, adjust the audio delay time to to match the video. 1In Stop mode, press the MENUbutton. 2Press the Cursor button to move to and then press the ENTER button. 3Press the Cursor button to move to and then press the ENTER button. 4Press the Cursor , button to select the AV-SYNC Delay Time and then press theENTERbutton. Dolby Pro Logic II Mode PRO LOGIC II • MUSIC: When listening to music, you can experience sound effects as if you are listening to the actual performance. • CINEMA : Adds realism to the movie soundtrack. • PRO LOGIC : You will experience a realistic multi-channel effect, as if using five speakers, while using just the front left and right speakers. • MATRIX : You will hear 5.1 channel surround sound. STEREO: Select this to listen to sound from the front left and right speakers and the subwoofer only. • When selecting Pro Logic II mode, connect your external device to the AUDIO INPUT jacks (L and R) on the player. If you connect to only one of the inputs (L or R), you cannot listen to surround sound. Settings(Con’t) • When playing a DVD disc encoded with two or more channels, multi-channel mode will be selected automatically and the (Dolby Pro Logic II) button does not work. This function works only in Dolby Pro Logic MUSIC mode. 1Press the PL II MODEbutton to select mode. 2Press the PL II EFFECTbutton to select (PANORAMA), then press the Cursor , button to select the desired effect setting. You can select either 0 or 1. This mode extends the front stereo image to include the surround speakers for an exciting wraparound effect with side wall imaging. 3Press the PL II EFFECTbutton to select (CENTER WIDTH), then press the Cursor , button to select the desired effect setting. You can select between 0 and 7. This sets the width of the center image. The higher the setting, the less sound comes from the center speaker. 4Press thePL II EFFECTbutton to select (DIMENSION), then press the Cursor , button to select the desired setting You can select between 0 and 6. ENG 57 56 By setting the auto sound calibration function just once when you relocate or install the unit, you can have the unit automatically recognize the distance between speakers, levels between channels, and frequency characteristics to create a 5.1-channel sound field optimized for the listeners environment. Auto Sound Calibration • If you have not perfomed the ASC function, pressing the Auto Sound Calibration button without connecting the auto sound calibration microphone will display the message in the display. • Because the volume level of the tone is fixed during the auto sound calibration setup, you cannot adjust the volume using the volume control buttons. • If the auto sound microphone is disconnected during the auto sound calibration setup, the setup will be cancelled. This function is available only for DVD/CD playback. ¿·º– ˜` L: Front Speaker (L) R: Front Speaker (R) C: Center Speaker SW: Subwoofer SL: Rear Speaker (L) SR: Rear Speaker (R) * The following images are for illustrative purposes only and may differ from the actual product. If the distance between the listener and the speaker is 118 to 194 inch : Set the main units volume to 25. To create the optimal 5.1 channel sound filed, the selections are in the following sequence: L ➝ C➝ R➝ SR➝ SL➝ SW The auto sound calibration setup takes about 2 minutes to complete. 5When the message appears in the display, unplug the auto sound calibration microphone. To cancel the auto sound calibration setup, press the ASCbutton. The tone output stops, appears in the display followed by , and the setup is cancelled. To listen in the auto sound calibration mode, briefly press the ASCbutton. The selection alternates between and in the display. If you select , you will hear sound in the auto sound calibration mode. You can reproduce a 2-channel sound source, such as CD, and radio broadcast, in 5.1-channel surround sound. Press the MUSICbutton. Each time the button is pressed, the selection alternates between and . • V-H/P ON : Select to enjoy a 5.1-channel surround sound that gives the feeling of being in a baseball park or concert hall. • V-H/P OFF : Select to listen to a standard 2-channel stereo sound. Virtual Headphone Function • Do not listen at extremely high volume levels when using headphones. Extended, high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Use headphones (3.5 ) (not supplied) for private listening pleasure. You can enjoy dynamic sound effects similar to that of 5.1 channel surround sound using conventional stereo headphones.
