76Toolbox The Toolbox is a floating shortcut menu that displays on every screen, giving you quick access to your favorite apps. To enable the Toolbox feature: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Device . 2. Tap On/Off next to Toolbox. 3. Tap Edit to choose up to five apps to display in Toolbox. Toolbox Settings
77Motions Control certain device actions by touching the screen with the palm of your hand or turning over the device. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Device . 2. Tap Motions. 3. Tap an option, and then tap On/Off to enable each of the following: • Mute: Mute incoming calls and alarms by turning the device over or by covering the screen with your hand. • Palm swipe to capture: Create a copy of the current screen by swiping the side of your hand across the screen. 78Accessibility Accessibility Accessibility services are special features that make using the device easier for those with certain physical disabilities. Note: You can download additional accessibility applications from the Google Play store. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Device . 2. Tap Accessibility for options: Vision • Switch access: Use this option to control your device using configurable key combinations. Tap On/Off to turn the feature on. Tap Settings for more options. • TalkBack: Speak feedback aloud to help blind and low-vision users. Tap On/Off to turn the feature on. Tap Settings for more options. -TalkBack can collect all of the text you enter, except passwords, including personal data and credit card numbers. It may also log your user interface interactions with the device. • Dark screen: Keep the screen turned off at all times for privacy. TalkBack must be enabled in order to configure this option. • Rapid key input: Release your finger to enter selection instead of double tapping. TalkBack must be enabled in order to configure this option. • Speak passwords: Read the characters aloud as you enter your passwords. TalkBack must be enabled in order to configure this option. • Font size: Set the font size. • High contrast fonts: Adjust the color and outline of fonts to increase the contrast with the background. • Magnification gestures: Use exaggerated gestures such as triple-tapping, double pinching, and dragging two fingers across the screen. • Notification reminder: Play a beep when a notification for a call or message has been missed. • Negative colors: Reverse the display of screen colors from white text on a black background to black text on a white background. • Color adjustment: Adjust the color of the screen if you are color blind or have difficulty reading the display because of the screen color. Tap Color adjustment for options. • Accessibility shortcut: Quickly enable accessibility features in two quick steps. Tap On/Off to turn the feature on. • Text-to-speech options: Set your preferred TTS engine and options. For more information, see Text-to-Speech Options. Hearing • Flash notification: Set your camera light to blink whenever you receive a notification. • Turn off all sounds: Turn off all notifications and audio for privacy. • Samsung subtitles (CC): Use Samsung subtitles with multimedia files when available. • Google subtitles (CC): Use Google subtitles with multimedia files when available. • Sound balance: Use the slider to set the left and right balance when using a stereo device. • Mono audio: Switch audio from stereo to mono for use with one earphone. 79Accessibility Dexterity and interaction • Assistant menu: Improve the device accessibility for users with reduced dexterity. • Press and hold delay: Select a time interval for this action. • Interaction control: Block areas of the screen from touch interaction. Disable auto screen rotation and hard key functions. Only show application notifications in the Notification panel and the Status bar. More settings • Direct access: Open your accessibility settings by pressing the Home key quickly three times in succession. • Single tap mode: Dismiss or snooze alarms, calendar events, and timer alerts with a single tap. • Manage accessibility: Import and export your accessibility settings, or share them with other devices. 80Users Share this tablet with multiple people by creating User accounts. • Users have their own space, which they can customize with their own apps, wallpaper, and settings. Users can also adjust tablet settings like Wi-Fi, which affects everyone. • Restricted profiles allow only limited access to apps and content. Set Up User Profiles Set up user profiles and then select one when unlocking the device to use personalized settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Device . 2. Tap Users. 3. Tap Add user or profile and follow the instructions to set up a new user or profile. Delete a User or Profile To delete a user or profile: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Device . 2. Tap Users. 3. Tap Delete user next to a User profile. Note : Only the device owner can delete other users or profiles. Deleting a user’s profile removes the user account from the device entirely. This includes the user’s Google Account, Samsung account, and any other local accounts associated with the user. Switch User Profiles To access the device with a user profile: ► From a Lock screen, tap Manage users for the user or profile. Change User Account Nicknames and Photo IDs The photo and name each user uses in their personal Contact entry (listed under Me at the top of their Contacts list) is used as their User ID and name. 81Private Mode Private Mode Hide personal content from being accessed by anyone else using your device. Private mode is only available for certain applications. Note: A secure screen lock (Pattern, PIN, Password, or Fingerprint) is required to use Private mode. Set Up Private Mode 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Device . 2. Tap Private mode. 3. Follow the prompts to learn about and set up Private mode. Settings
82Finger Scanner Finger Scanner Use fingerprint recognition as an alternative to entering passwords in certain apps. You can also use your fingerprint to verify your identity when logging in to your Samsung account. Note: Fingerprint recognition uses the unique characteristics of each fingerprint to enhance the security of your device. The likelihood of the fingerprint sensor confusing even small areas of two different fingerprints is very low. But in rare cases, the sensor may recognize a fingerprint that is similar to a registered fingerprint. Register a Fingerprint You can register up to three fingerprints. A password is also set up as an alternative to your fingerprint. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Device . 2. Tap Finger Scanner > Fingerprint manager. 3. Swipe your finger over the Home key to register your first fingerprint or to continue to the next screen. Change Backup Password To change the backup password: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Device . 2. Tap Finger Scanner > Change backup password. 3. Scan your fingerprint. 4. Enter a new backup password. Fingerprint Verification Fingerprint verification can be used for other accounts accessed from your device. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Device . 2. Tap Finger Scanner for options. • Screen lock: Change your Screen lock and access Screen lock settings. For more information, see Set a Screen Lock . • Web sign-in: Access your online accounts using your fingerprint. • Verify Samsung account: Verify your identity using your fingerprint when logging in to your Samsung account. 83Accounts Accounts Set up and manage accounts, including your Google Account, Samsung account, email, and social networking accounts. Depending on the account, you can choose to synchronize your calendar, contacts, and other types of content. Add an Account Set up an existing account on your device or create a new account. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. Tap Accounts > Add account. 3. Tap one of the account types. 4. Follow the prompts to enter your credentials and set up the account. Synchronize Accounts Ensure that the information on your device is updated with any information that changes in your accounts. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. Tap Accounts > [Account type]. • Tap Sync all to synchronize all accounts of this type. 3. Tap an account to view the sync settings for that account. 4. Tap individual data items to sync. 5. Tap More options > Sync now to synchronize the account. Note : Settings and options differ by account type. Account Settings Each account has its own set of settings. In addition, you can configure common settings for all accounts of the same type. Note: Account settings and available features vary between account types and service providers. Contact your service provider for more information on your account’s settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. Tap Accounts > [Account type]. 3. Tap an account to configure that account’s sync settings. 4. Tap other available options for the account. Remove an Account You can remove accounts from your device. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. Tap Accounts > [Account type]. 3. Tap the account, and then tap More options > Remove account. 4. At the prompt, tap Remove account. Settings
84Cloud Settings Back up your personal data using your Samsung Account or Dropbox. Use Your Samsung Account Set up or sign in to your Samsung account. 1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. Tap Cloud. 3. Tap your Samsung account to manage your sync settings and backup options. • Tap Add Samsung account, if you have not signed in to your Samsung account. • Tap your account to configure settings. • Tap Backup to manage your back up and restore options. • Tap Restore to retrieve data from your Samsung account. Use Your Dropbox Account For more information about Dropbox, visit dropbox.com . 1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. Tap Cloud. 3. Tap your Dropbox account to manage your sync settings and backup options. • Tap Link Dropbox account, if you have not signed in to your Dropbox account. • Follow the prompts to set up and use Dropbox. 85Backup and Reset Backup and Reset Back up your data to Google servers. You can also reset your device to its factory defaults. Backup and Restore Enable backup of your information to Google servers. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. Tap Backup and reset for options: • Back up my data: Enable back up of application data, Wi-Fi passwords, and other settings to Google servers. • Backup account: Select a Google Account to be used as your backup account. • Automatic restore: Enable automatic restoration of settings from Google servers. When enabled, backed-up settings are restored when you reinstall an application. Personal Data Restore your device to its default settings. Reset Network Settings You can reset Wi-Fi, Mobile data, and Bluetooth settings with Reset network settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. Tap Backup and reset > Reset network settings. 3. Tap Reset settings, and confirm when prompted. Factory Data Reset You can reset your device to factory defaults, erasing all data from your device. This action permanently erases ALL data from the device, including Google or other account settings, system and application data and settings, downloaded applications, as well as your music, photos, videos, and other files. Any data stored on an external SD card is not affected. To reset your device: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > General. 2. Tap Backup and reset > Factory data reset. 3. Tap Reset device and follow the prompts to perform the reset. 4. When the device restarts, follow the prompts to set up your device. Settings
