    the keypad, then touch OK.
    6.To establish a L2TP/IPSec CRT (Certificate based L2TP/
    IPSec):
    To u c h  Add L2TP/IPSec CRT VPN. 
    To u c h  VPN name, add a name for this connection using the 
    keypad, then touch OK.
    To u c h  Set VPN server, add a name using the keypad, then touch OK.
    To u c h  Enable L2TP secret to make a check mark , if desired.
    To u c h  Set L2TP secret and enter a password, if desired, then 
    touch OK.
    To u c h  Set user certificate, then touch OK.
    To u c h  Set CA certificate, then touch OK.
    To u c h  DNS search domains, add a name for DNS search using 
    the keypad, then touch OK.
    Sound
    General
    Silent Mode
    Temporarily silence all the sounds your device makes except for 
    media playback and alarms.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Sound.
    2.Touch Silent mode to enable or disable silent mode. When 
    enabled, a check mark   appears in the check box.
    Vibrate
    Vibrate mode allows your device to vibrate instead of a tone.
    1.From the Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ 
    Settings ➔ Sound ➔ Vibrate.
    2.Touch Always, Never, Only in Silent mode, or Only when not 
    in Silent mode

    Vol ume
    Set the volume level for all types of sounds.
    Note: You can only set volume when Silent Mode is disabled.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Sound ➔ Volume.
    2.Touch and drag the sliders to set:
     Incoming call volume: Adjust the sound for incoming calls.
     Media volume: Playback of music, videos, and other multimedia 
    content.
     System volume: Application sounds and other sounds made by 
    your device.
     Notification volume: Sounds for alerts to new messages and other 
    events.
    Note: The Notification volume option does not appear if Use Incoming call volume for notifications is checked.
    3.Touch OK to save your setting.
    Tip: You can also set Media volume from the Home screen by pressing the Volume Key.
    Notifications
    Notification Ringtone
    Select a default ringtone for message, alarm, and other 
    notifications.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Sound ➔ Notification ringtone.
    2.Touch a ringtone to hear a sample and select it.
    3.Touch OK to save the setting.
    Feedback
    Audible Selection
    When enabled, tones play when you touch screen items.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Sound.
    2.Touch Audible selection to enable or disable tones. When 
    enabled, a check mark   appears in the check box.

    Screen Lock Sounds
    When enabled, tones play when unlocking and locking the 
    screen.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Sound.
    2.Touch Screen lock sounds to enable or disable tones. When 
    enabled, a check mark   appears in the check box.
    Display
    Font Style
    Set the font for screen displays.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Display.
    2.Touch Font style to choose a font style or touch Get fonts 
    online
     to browse and download a new font.
    Brightness
    Set the default screen brightness.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Display ➔ Brightness.
    2.Touch and drag the slider to set the brightness.
    3.Touch OK to save the setting.
    Auto-Rotate Screen
    Switch orientation automatically when rotating your device.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Display.
    2.Touch Auto-rotate screen to enable or disable the mode. 
    When enabled, a check mark   appears in the check 
    box.
    Animation
    Set the level of animations for transitions between screens.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Display ➔ Animation.
    2.Touch No animation, Some animations, or All animations.
    Screen Time-out
    Set the length of delay between the last key press or screen 
    touch and the automatic screen time-out (dim and lock).
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Display ➔ Screen time-out.
    2.Touch a setting to select it.

    Power Saving Mode
    When enabled, your device automatically analyzes the screen 
    and adjusts the brightness to conserve battery power.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Display.
    2.Touch Power saving mode to enable or disable the mode. 
    When enabled, a check mark   appears in the check 
    box.
    Horizontal Calibration
    Horizontal calibration allows you to horizontally calibrate your 
    display using the accelerometer. 
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Display ➔ Horizontal calibration.
    2.Place your device on a level surface and touch Calibrate.
    Location and Security
    You value your privacy. So, by default, your device only acquires 
    your location when you dial 911. To use Location-Based 
    Services, you must first enable location services on your device.
    My Location
    Use Wireless Networks
    Before you use applications such as Google Maps and find your 
    location or search for places of interest, you must enable the Use 
    wireless networks option or enable the GPS satellites.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key   ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Location and security.
    2.Touch Use wireless networks to enable location information 
    using the wireless network.
    Use GPS Satellites
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key   ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Location and security.
    2.Touch Use GPS satellites to enable the GPS satellite.
    Use Sensor Aiding
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key   ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Location and security.
    2.Touch Use sensor aiding to enable the sensor aiding, which 
    enhances positioning and saves power by using sensors.

    Screen Unlock Settings
    Set Screen Lock
    Choose settings for unlocking your screen. For more information 
    about using the lock and unlock features, see “Securing Your 
    Device” on page 8.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Location and security.
    2.Touch Set screen lock/Change screen lock for these 
    settings:
    : Touch to disable all screen lock settings.
     Pattern: A screen unlock pattern is a touch gesture you create and 
    use to unlock your device. Follow the prompts to create or change 
    your screen unlock pattern.
    : Touch to create a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for 
    unlocking the screen.
    : Touch to create a password for unlocking the screen.
    Passwords
    Visible Passwords
    When enabled, password characters display briefly as you touch 
    them while entering passwords.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings ➔ Location and security.
    2.Touch Visible passwords to enable or disable brief displays 
    of password characters. When enabled, a check mark   
    appears in the check box.
    Device Administration
    Add or remove device administrators.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Location and security.
    2.Touch Select device administrators.
    Credential Storage
    Use Secure Credentials
    You can install credentials from an installed memory card and 
    use Credential storage settings to allow applications to access 
    the secure certificates and other credentials.
    Note: You must have installed encrypted certificates from a memory card to use this feature.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Location and security.
    2.Touch Use secure credentials to enable or disable. When 
    enabled, a check mark   appears in the check box.

    Install Encr ypted Cer tificates
    Install encrypted certificates from an installed memory card.
    Note: You must have installed a memory card containing encrypted certificates to use this feature.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Location and security.
    2.Touch Install encrypted certificates from SD card, then 
    choose a certificate and follow the prompts to install.
    Set Password
    Set or change a password to protect credentials.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Location and security.
    2.Touch Set password, then follow the prompts.
    Clear Storage
    Clear stored credentials and reset the password.
    Note: This setting only appears if you have installed encrypted certificates.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Location and security.
    2.Touch Clear storage to clear stored credentials and reset 
    the password.
    Applications
    You can download and install applications from Android Market 
    or create applications using the Android SDK and install them on 
    your device. Use Applications settings to manage applications.
    Warning!: Because this device can be configured with system software not 
    provided by or supported by Google or any other company, end-
    users operate these devices at their own risk.
    Unknown Sources
    When enabled, you can install applications from sources other 
    than the Android Market.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Applications.
    2.Touch Unknown sources to enable or disable the setting. 
    When enabled, a check mark   appears in the check 
    box.

    Manage Applications
    Manage and remove applications from your device.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Applications ➔ Manage applications.
    2.Touch an application to view and update information about 
    the application, including memory usage, default settings 
    and permissions.
    Running Ser vices
    View and control services running on your device.
    Warning!: Not all services can be stopped. Stopping services may have undesirable consequences on the application or Android System.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Applications ➔ Running services.
    2.To stop a service, touch the service, then touch Stop at the 
    confirmation prompt.
    Development
    Set options for application development.
    USB Debugging
    When enabled, allows debugging when the device is attached to 
    a PC by a USB cable.
    Note: This setting is used for development purposes.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Applications ➔ Development.
    2.Touch USB debugging to enable or disable the setting. 
    When enabled, a check mark   appears in the check 
    box.
    Allow Mock Locations
    This setting is used by developers when developing location-
    based applications.
    Note: This setting is used for development purposes.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Applications ➔ Development.
    2.Touch Allow mock locations to enable or disable the 
    setting. When enabled, a check mark   appears in the

    Samsung Apps
    Using the Samsung Apps option, the device notifies you when 
    there are new applications in Samsung Apps.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Applications ➔ Samsung Apps.
    2.For new application notification, touch On. Touch Off to 
    disable new application notification.
    3.To delete Samsung Apps’ locale data, touch Reset locale 
    and then touch OK.
    Accounts and Sync
    Set up and manage accounts, including your Google and Backup 
    Assistant accounts.
    General Sync Settings
    Background Data
    When enabled, all accounts can sync, send, and receive data at 
    any time, in the background.
    Important!: Disabling background data can extend battery life and lower data 
    use. Some applications may still use the background data 
    connection, even if this setting is disabled.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Accounts and sync.
    2.Touch Background data to enable or disable the setting. 
    When enabled, a check mark   appears in the check 
    box.
    Auto-Sync
    When enabled, all accounts sync data at any time, automatically.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Accounts and sync.
    2.Touch Auto-sync to enable or disable the setting. When 
    enabled, a check mark   appears in the check box.
    Manage Accounts
    Use Manage accounts to set up and configure your accounts.
    Note: Available settings depend on the type of account. Not all settings are available for all accounts.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Accounts and sync.

    Under Manage accounts, touch the account to modify its 
    settings.
    For more information about accounts, see “Setting Up Your 
    Accounts” on page 28.
    Adding an Account
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Accounts and sync.
    2.Under Manage accounts, touch Add account and follow the 
    prompts to enter your credentials and set up the account.
    Tip: For more information about adding accounts, see “Setting Up Your Accounts” on page 28.
    Removing an Account
    Important!: Removing an account also deletes all of its messages, contacts and other data from the device.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Accounts and sync.
    2.Touch an account to display its settings.
    3.Touch Remove account, then touch Remove account at the 
    prompt to remove the account and delete all its messages, 
    contacts and other data.
    Privacy
    Manage your device’s use of personal information.
    Device Backup and Restore
    Back Up My Data
    Enable or disable backup of your settings to the Google server.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Privacy.
    2.Touch Back up my data to enable or disable backup of 
    settings to the Google server.
    Automatic Restore
    When enabled, backed-up settings are restored when you 
    reinstall an application.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Privacy.
    2.Touch Automatic restore to enable or disable automatic 
    restoration of settings from the Google server.

    Personal Data
    Factor y Data Reset
    Use Factory data reset to return your device to its factory 
    defaults. This setting erases all data from the device, including 
    Google or other email account settings, system and application 
    data and settings, and downloaded applications. It does not 
    erase current system software and bundled applications or files, 
    such as music or photos, stored on an installed memory card.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Privacy.
    2.Touch Factory data reset, then follow the prompts to 
    perform the reset.
    SD Card and Device Storage
    Manage the use of memory resources in your device’s internal 
    memory and on an installed memory card.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ SD card and device storage.
    Note: Total space and Available space settings cannot be configured.
    2.Under SD card:
     Total memory and Available memory display memory usage on 
    an installed memory card (not user-configurable).
    To u c h  Unmount SD card to prepare the memory card for safe 
    removal or formatting. For more information, refer to “Removing 
    a Memory Card”  on page 8.
    To u c h  Format SD card to erase the memory card and prepare it for 
    use with your device. For more information, refer to “Formatting 
    a Memory Card”  on page 82.
    3.Under USB storage:
     and Available memory display usage of the internal 
    device memory.
    To u c h  Format USB storage to format (erase) all data in internal 
    memory. Read the warning and then touch Format USB storage.
    4.Under System storage:
     Available memory displays usage for your device’s 2GB internal 
    memory.
    Language and Keyboard
    Select Locale
    Set the language used by your device.
    1.From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key  ➔ Settings 
    ➔ Language and keyboard ➔ Select locale.
    2.Touch a language/locale from the list.
