Applications Settings Shortcuts to the settings for various apps are available in one convenient location. To quickly access the settings for selected apps : 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Set tings. 2. Wallpaper Settings Change the look of the home and lock screens with wallpaper. You can display a favorite picture or choose from preloaded wallpapers. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Sett ings > Wallpaper. 2. Tap Home screen, Lock screen, or Home and lock screen. 3. Tap an image to preview it, and then tap SET AS WALLPAPER. • Tap From Gallery for additional wallpapers. Settings 87 Wallpaper Settings
Themes Set the theme to be applied to your home and lock screens, wallpapers, and app icons. Apply Themes 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Theme s. • Tap a theme to view a preview of various screens. • Tap STORE to download additional themes from the Theme Store with your Samsung account. • Tap MORE for help using this feature. 2. Tap APPLY to apply the selected theme. Settings 88 Themes
Lock Screen and Security Choose a method for unlocking your screen. Dierent Screen Locks have dierent levels of security and options. Set a Screen Lock 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Sett ings > Lock screen and security. 2. Tap Screen loc k type to select a screen lock and level of security: • Swipe: Swipe the screen to unlock it. This option provides no security. • Pattern : A screen unlock pattern is a tap gesture you create and use to unlock your device. This option provides medium security. • PIN : Select a PIN to use for unlocking the screen. This option provides medium to high security. • Password: Create a password for unlocking the screen. This option provides high security. • Fingerprints: Use ngerprint recognition to unlock the screen. This option provides medium to high security. • None: Never use a Lock screen. 3. If choosing a secured lock screen option, select your notication settings: • Show content • Hide content • Do not show notications Screen Lock Options • Show information: Show the dual clock, or information such as the weather information, on the lock screen. • Unlock eect: Set the visual eect used when unlocking the screen. (This option is available with Swipe only.) • Secure lock settings: Set your secure lock functions such as Auto lock, Lock instantly with Power key, and Smart lock. (This option is available only with secure locks, like PIN and password.) -Smart Lock: Set your phone to stay unlocked when you have trusted devices connected or when it’s in a trusted place. Fingerprints Use ngerprint recognition as an alternative to entering passwords in certain apps. You can also use your ngerprint to verify your identity when logging in to your Samsung account. Note : Fingerprint recognition uses the unique characteristics of each ngerprint to enhance the security of your device. The likelihood of the ngerprint sensor confusing even small areas of two dierent ngerprints is very low. But, in rare cases the sensor may recognize a ngerprint that is similar to a registered ngerprint. Register a Fingerprint You can register up to 3 ngerprints. A password will also set up as an alternative to your ngerprint. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Loc k screen and security > Fingerprints. • To add a ngerprint, tap Add ngerprint and follow the instructions to register a ngerprint and password. • To rename a ngerprint, touch and hold the ngerprint, and then tap RENAME. • To delete a ngerprint, touch and hold the ngerprint, and then tap REMOVE. Change Backup Password You have the option to change your backup password. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap L oc k screen and security > Fingerprints > Change backup password. Fingerprint Verication Fingerprint verication can be used for other accounts accessed from your phone. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap L oc k screen and security > Fingerprint. • Web sign-in: Access your online accounts using your ngerprint. • Verify Samsung account: Verify your identity using your ngerprint when logging in to your Samsung account. Device Security Congure security for your phone. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap L oc k screen and security > Device security. 3. Tap the ON/OFF switch to activate KNOX active protection on your phone. Settings 90 Lock Screen and Security
Find My Mobile Protect your device from loss or theft allowing your device to be locked, tracked, and for your data to be deleted remotely. ► To access your device remotely, visit ndmymobile.samsung.com . Note : You must sign up for a Samsung account and enable Google location service to use Find My Mobile. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Lock scr een and security > Find My Mobile. • If you are not logged in to your Samsung account, tap Add account and follow the prompts. 3. The following options are available: • Remote controls: Tap to activate or deactivate Remote controls, which allows you to access your device remotely. • Google location service: Tap to activate or deactivate Google location service. This service must be on in order to nd your phone. • SIM change alert: Prevent unauthorized changes to your SIM card by being alerted whenever an app or service attempts to change data on your SIM card. Unknown Sources Enable installation of non- Google Play applications. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Lock scr een and security > Unknown sources to enable this option. Warning: Enabling installation of third-party applications can cause your device and personal data to be more vulnerable to attacks by unknown sources. Other Security Settings Encrypt Your Data Require a numeric PIN or password to decrypt your device each time you power it on. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Lock scr een and security > Other security settings > Encrypt device, and follow the prompts to encrypt all data on your device. Set Up SIM Card Lock Use this option to set up your password when one is rst required or change your current password. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Loc k scr een and security > Other security settings > Set up SIM card lock and follow the prompts. View Passwords Display password characters briey as you type them. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Loc k scr een and security > Other security settings > Make passwords visible to turn the feature on. Security Update Service Automatically receive security updates. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Loc k scr een and security > Other security settings > for the following Security update service options: • Security policy updates: Automatically or manually check for security policy updates. • Send security reports: Send security reports to Samsung via Wi-Fi for threat analysis. Device Administration Manage your device administrators and application installation privileges. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Lock scr een and security > Other security settings > Device administrators. 3. Tap Android Device Manager to allow it to lock or erase a lost device. Credential Storage Manage your security certicates. If a certicate authority (CA) certicate gets compromised or for some other reason you do not trust it, you can disable or remove it. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Loc k scr een and security > Other security settings for the following Credential storage options: • Storage type: Select a storage location for credential contents. • View security certicates: Display certicates in your device’s ROM and other certicates you have installed. • Install from phone storage: Install a new certicate from storage. • Clear credentials: Erase the credential contents from the device and reset the password. Advanced Security Settings Use these options to congure advanced security settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Loc k scr een and security > Other security settings and scroll down for the following Advanced options: • Trust agents: Perform selected actions when trusted devices are connected. • Pin windows: Pin an app on your device screen, preventing access to other features of you phone. • Usage data access: View the applications that can access your device’s usage history. • Notication access: View the applications that can access notications you receive on your phone. Note : To view Trust agents, set up a secured screen lock (like pin, password, or pattern) . For more information, see Set a Screen Lock. Settings 92 Lock Screen and Security
Privacy and Safety Choose from various modes designed to hide personal content from being accessed by anyone else using your device, or to aid you in an emergency. Note : A secure screen lock (Pattern, PIN, Fingerprint, or Password) is required to use Private Mode. Location Some apps, such as Google maps, may require one or more location services be turned on for full functionality. Locating Method 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Privacy and safety > Location. 2. Tap ON/OFF t o turn on Location services. 3. Tap Locating method to select how your location is determined: • GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks: Use GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks. • Wi-Fi and mobile networks: Use Wi-Fi and mobile networks (no GPS) . • GPS only: Use GPS only. Recent Location Requests Apps that have requested your location are listed under Recent location requests. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Privacy and safety > Location. 2. Tap ON/OFF t o turn on Location services. 3. Tap an entry under Recent location requests to view the app’s settings. Location Reporting Google uses Location Reporting to store and use your device’s most recent location data. Google apps, such as Google Maps, can use this data to improve your search results based on places that you have visited. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Privacy and safety > Location. 2. Tap ON/OFF t o turn on Location services. 3. Tap Google Location Reporting for options: • Location Reporting: Allow Google apps to use your device’s most recent location data. • Location History: Allow Google to store a history of your location data. Tap DELETE LOCATION HISTORY to permanently delete your location history. Settings 93 Privacy and Safety
Private Mode Hide personal content from being accessed by anyone else using your device. Private mode is only available for certain applications. Note: A secure screen lock (Pattern, PIN, Fingerprint, or Password) is required to use Private Mode. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Pri v acy and safety > Private mode. 3. If prompted, congure a secure lock screen. The following options are available in Private mode: • Tap the ON/OFF switch to turn Private mode on or o. • Tap Private mode access type to change the lock screen type. • Tap the ON/OFF switch for Auto o to enable or disable this feature, which automatically turns o Private mode when the screen turns o. Report Diagnostic Info This feature sends diagnostic information about your phone when you are having technical problems. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Pri v acy and safety, and then tap the ON/OFF switch for Report diagnostic info to either enable or disable this feature. Send SOS Messages Send a quick alert to your primary contacts when you are in an emergency situation. To enable this feature: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Tap Pri v acy & safety > Send SOS messages. 3. Tap ON/OFF to turn the feature on and congure the following options: • Send messages to: Add recipients by creating new contacts or selecting from Contacts. • Attach pictures: Send photos taken with the front and back cameras to your emergency contacts. • Attach audio recording: Send a short audio message to your emergency contacts. To send a help message: ► Press the Power/Lock key quickly three times. Settings 94 Privacy and Safety
Easy Mode Switch between the default screen layout and a simpler layout. The Easy Mode layout has larger text and icons, making for a more straightforward visual experience. To enable Easy Mode: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Set tings > Easy mode. 2. Ta p Eas y mode to enable this feature. When Easy mode is enabled, you can scroll down the page and select which apps you want to appear on the Home screens. 3. Tap the check box next to the apps you want to add or remove. 4.
