English 31 System Menu Options COMPONENT Sets the video output according to your video connection. This setting is not required if you are using the AV OUT jack to connect the DVD micro system to your TV. ➜S-VIDEO: Select this if you have connected the DVD micro system to your TV using S-Video jack. ➜Pr/Cr Pb/Cb Y: Select this if you have connected the DVD micro system to your TV using Component video jacks. Note: –This option is available only when the HDMI is set to OFF. TV MODE Selects interlace or Progressive-SC AN video output mode when Pr/Cr Pb/Cb Y is selected. ➜PROGRESSIVE-SCAN and INTERLACE. In the progressive scan mode, you can enjoy the high quality picture with less flicker s. It only works when you have connected the DVD players Y Pb Pr jacks to your TV that suppor ts the progressive video input. Otherwise, a distor ted picture will appear on the TV. For proper progressive scan set up, see “Getting star ted-Setting up Progressive Scan feature”. Note: –This option is available only when the HDMI is set to OFF. QUALITY This menu helps you to set the video quality. 1Press 3 4 to highlight “QUALITY”. 2Press 2 or OK to enter QUALITY. The options included in PICTURE SETTING page are: “SHARPNESS”, “BRIGHTNESS”, “CONTRAST”, “GAMMA”, “HUE”, “SATURATION” and “LUMA DELAY”. PICTURE SETTING SHARPNESS Adjusts the sharpness level. ➜HIGH, MEDIUM and LOW. BRIGHTNESS Adjusts the brightness level. Range: -20-+20. CONTRAST Adjusts the contrast level. Range: -16-+16. GAMMA Adjusts the gamma level. ➜HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW and NONE. HUE Adjusts the hue level. Range: -9-+9. SATURATION Adjusts the saturation level. Range: -9-+9. LUMA DELAY Adjusts the luma delay. ➜0 T and 1 T. HDMI SETUP The options included in HDMI SETUP Page are: HDMI and RESOLUTION. HDMI This option is used to enable/disable HDMI output. ➜ON: Enables HDMI output. ➜OFF: Disables HDMI output. RESOLUTION You can select the resolution of the picture according to your preference and the connected HDMI TV. The resolution options include 480p (60Hz), 720p (60Hz), 1080i (60Hz), 576p (50Hz), 720p (50Hz) and 1080i (50Hz).
32 English System Menu Options Notes: –This option is available only when the HDMI is set to ON. –If no display appears on the TV screen due to unsupported resolution, reconnect any available interlace video output to your display and re-adjust the resolution settings to 480p/576p. PREFERENCE PAGE The options included in Preference page are: “TV TYPE”, “AUDIO”, “SUBTITLE”, “DISC MENU”, “PARENTAL”, “DEFAULT” and “PASSWORD SETUP”. Note: –Preference features can be selected only when no disc is in the player or when playback has stopped completely. PARENTAL Some DVDs may have a parental level assigned to the complete disc or to cer tain scenes on the disc. This feature lets you set a playback limitation level. The rating levels are from 1 to 8 and are countr y dependent. You can prohibit the playing of cer tain discs that are not suitable for your children or have cer tain discs played with alternative scenes. ●VCD, SVCD and CD have no level indication, so parental control function has no effect on those kinds of discs. This applies to most illegal DVD discs. 1Press 3 4 to highlight “PARENTAL”. 2Enter its submenu by pressing 2. 3Use 3 4 to highlight a rating level for the disc inser ted. ➜DVDs that are r ated above the level you selected will not play unless you enter your four- digit password and choose a higher level rating. Note: –Some DVDs are not encoded with a rating though the movie rating may be printed on the Disc cover. The rating level feature does not work for such Discs. Rating explanations 1 KID SAF –Kids material; recommended especially for children and viewers of all ages. 2 G –General Audience; recommended as acceptable for viewers of all ages. 3 PG –Parental Guidance suggested. 4 PG 13 –Material is unsuitable for children under age 13. 5-6 PGR, R –Parental Guidance - Restricted; recommended that parents restrict children under 17 from viewing or allow to view only when super vised by a parent or adult guardian. 7 NC-17 –No children under age 17; not recommended viewing for children under age 17. 8 Adult –Mature materials; should be viewed only by adults due to graphic sexual material, violence or language. DEFAULT Setting the “DEFAULT” function will reset all options and your personal settings to the factor y defaults and all your personal settings will be erased. Caution! –When this function is activated, all settings will be reset to factory defaults.
English 33 System Menu Options PASSWORD SETUP The options included in Password Setup page are: “PASSWORD MODE” and “PASSWORD”. PASSWORD MODE This feature is used to enable/disable password by selecting “ON”/”OFF”. PASSWORD Enter your four digit password when a hint is displayed on the screen. The default password is 1234. 1Press 3 4 to highlight “PASSWORD”. 2Enter its submenu by pressing 2. 3Press OK to open the page for inputting a new password. 4Enter the existing 4-digit code. 5Enter a new 4-digit code. 6Enter the new 4-digit code a second time to confirm. ➜The new 4-digit code will take effect. 7Press OK to exit.Notes: –If the password has been changed, the parental and disc lock code will also be changed. –The default password (1234) is always active even the password has been changed.
34 English Radio Reception Tuning to radio stations 1Press STANDBY-ON B (B on the remote) to switch on the last selected source. 2Press SOURCE (TUNER on the remote) to select FM mode. 3Press and hold 1 / 2 on the remote until the frequency indication star ts to change, then release. ➜The system automatically tunes to the next strong radio station. ●To tune to a weak station, press 1 / 2 on the remote briefly and repeatedly until an optimal reception is found. 4Repeat Step 3 if necessar y until you find the desired radio station. Presetting radio stations You can preset up to 20 stations regardless of the reception. Automatic programming ●Press PROGRAM on the remote for more than two seconds to activate programming. ➜All available stations are programmed. Manual programming 1Tune to your desired radio station (refer to “Tuning to radio stations”). 2Press PROGRAM on the remote. ➜”PROG” icon flashes. 3Press ¡ / ™ to select the desired preset number. ➜If “PROG” icon goes off before you select the desired preset number, press PROGRAM on the remote. 4Press PROGRAM on the remote again to store the radio station. ●Repeat steps 1-4 to store other radio stations. Other Functions Listening to preset radio stations ●In tuner mode, press ¡ / ™ to select the desired preset number. ➜The preset number, radio frequency, and waveband are displayed. Setting the clock 1 In Standby mode, press and hold CLOCK/RDS on the remote until the time flashes on the display. ➜”CLOCK” is displayed briefly. Then, the hour digits flash on the display screen. 2Press VOLUME +/ - (VOL+/- on the remote) to set the hours and CLOCK/RDS to confirm. ➜The minute digits flash on the display screen. 3Press VOLUME +/ - (VOL+/- on the remote) to set the minutes and CLOCK/RDS to confirm. Notes: –This system only supports 24-hour mode . –The clock setting will be erased when the system is disconnected from the power supply. –The system will exit clock setting mode if no button is pressed within 30 seconds.
English 35 Other Functions Setting sleep/wake-up timer Sleep timer setting In power-on mode, the sleep setting enables the system to switch to standby mode automatically at a preset time. 1In power-on mode, press SLEEP/TIMER on the remote repeatedly to select a preset time. ➜The selections are as follows (time in minutes): 00 ➜ 10 ➜ 20 ➜ 30 ➜ 40 ➜ 50 ➜ 60 ➜ 70 ➜ 80 ➜ 90 ➜ 00 2When you reach the desired length of time, stop pressing SLEEP/TIMER. ➜ appears. To deactivate the sleep timer ●Press SLEEP/TIMER repeatedly until “00” i s displayed, or press STANDBY-ON B (B on the remote). In standby mode, the timer setting enables the system to switch on automatically at a set time. Wake-up timer setting IMPORTANT! –Before setting the timer, ensure that the clock is set correctly. 1Press and hold SLEEP/TIMER until the time flashes on the display. ➜”TIMER” scrolls. Then, the hour digits flash on the display screen. 2Press VOLUME +/ - (VOL+/- on the remote) to set the hours and SLEEP/TIMER to confirm. ➜The minute digits flash on the display screen. 3Press VOLUME +/ - (VOL+/- on the remote) to set the minutes and SLEEP/TIMER to confirm ➜”OFF” flashes on the display screen. 4 Press VOLUME +/ - (VOL+/- on the remote) to select “ON”. ➜ icon appears on the display screen. To deactivate the timer ●Select “OFF” at Step 4.
36 English External Sources Using a non-USB device 1 Connect the systems LINE-IN jack to the AUDIO OUT jacks on another audio/visual device (such as a VCR, Laser Disc player or cassette desk) using a single-to-double cinch cable (with one end providing a 3.5 connector for connection to the LINE-IN jack while the other end providing two white/red connectors for connection to the other devices AUDIO OUT jacks). 2Press AUX to select external equipment. ➜LINE-IN is displayed. Note: –All the sound control features (DSC or DBB, for example) are available for selection. –Refer to the operating instructions for the connected equipment for details. Using a USB mass storage device By connecting a USB mass storage device to the Hi-Fi system, you can enjoy the devices stored music through the powerful speakers of Hi-Fi system. Playing a USB mass storage device Compatible USB mass storage devices With the Hi-Fi system, you can use: –USB flash memor y (USB 2.0 or USB1.1) –USB flash player s (USB 2.0 or USB1.1) –memor y cards (requires an additional card reader to work with this Hi-Fi system) Notes: –In some USB flash players (or memory devices), the stored contents are recorded using copyright protection technology. Such protected contents will be unplayable on any other devices (such as this Hi-Fi system). –Compatibility of the USB connection on this product: a) This product suppor ts most USB Mass storage devices (MSD) that are compliant to the USB MSD standards. i) Most common Mass storage class devices are flash drives, memory sticks, jump drives and etc .ii) If you see a Disc Drive show up on your computer after you plugged the mass storage device into your computer, most likely it is MSD compliant and it will work with this product. b) If your Mass storage device required a battery/ power source. Please make sure you have a fresh battery in it or charge the USB device first and then plug it into the product again. –Supported Music type: a) This device only supports unprotected music with the following file extension: .mp3 .wma b) Music bought from on-line music stores are not supported because they are secured by Digital Rights Management protection (DRM). c) File name extensions that end with the following are not supported: .wav; .m4a; .m4p; mp4; .aac and etc . –No Direct connection can be made from Computer USB port to the product even you have either or both mp3 or wma files in your computer. Supported formats: –USB or memor y file format FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 (sector size: 512 bytes) –MP3 bit rate (data rate): 32-320 Kbps and variable bit rate –WMA v9 or ear lier –Director y nesting up to a maximum of 8 levels –Number of albums/ folders: maximum 99 –Number of tracks/titles: maximum 999 –ID3 tag v2.0 or later –File name in Unicode UTF8 (maximum length: 128 bytes) The system will not play or support the following: –Empty albums: an empty album is an album that does not contain MP3/WMA files, and will not be shown in the display. –Non-suppor ted file formats are skipped. This means that e .g.: Word documents .doc or MP3 files with extension .dlf are ignored and will not be played. –AAC, WAV, PCM audio files –DRM protected WMA files –WMA files in Lossless format
English 37 External Sources How to transfer music files from PC to a USB mass storage device By dragging and dropping music files, you can easily transfer your favorite music from PC to a USB mass storage device. For the flash player, you can also use its music management software for the music transfer. However, those WMA files may be unplayable for compatibility reasons. How to organize your MP3/WMA files on the USB mass storage device This Hi-Fi system will browse the MP3/WMA files in the folders/sub-folders/titles order. Example: Root Title 001 Title 002 Title 003 Album 01 Title 001 Title 002 Title 003 Album 02 Title 001 Title 002 Title 003 Album 03 Title 001 Title 002 Title 003 Organize your MP3/WMA files in different folders or subfolders as required.Notes: –If you have not organized MP3/WMA files into any albums on your disc , an album 01 will be automatically assigned for all those files. –Make sure that the file names of MP3 files end with .mp3. and the file names of WMA files end with .wma. –For DRM protected WMA files, use Windows Media Player 10 (or later) for conversion. Visit www.microsoft.com for details about Windows Media Player and WM DRM (Windows Media Digital Rights Management). 1Check the USB device has been properly connected. (See Installation: Connecting an additional appliance). 2Press SOURCE (USB on the remote) once or more to select USB. –NO FILE appears if no audio file is found in the USB device. 3Play the USBs audio files as you do with the albums/tracks on a CD (See CD/MP3 Operations). Notes: –For compatibility reasons, the album/track information may differ from what it is displayed through flash players music management software. –File names or ID3 tags will be displayed as --- if they are not in English.

English 39 WARNING Under no circumstances should you try to repair the system yourself, as this will invalidate the warranty. Do not open the system as there is a risk of electric shock. If a fault occurs, first check the points listed below before taking the system for repair. If you are unable to remedy a problem by following these hints, consult your dealer or Philips for help. Troubleshooting Problem Solution No power. No picture. Distorted or poor picture. Completely distorted picture or black/ white picture. ✔Check if the AC power cord is proper ly connected. ✔Press STANDBY-ON B on the top of the DVD micro system or B on the remote to turn on the power. ✔Check if the TV is switched on. ✔Check the video connection. ✔Press SOURCE on the top of the DVD player repeatedly to select “DVD” or press DISC on the remote. ✔Set your TV to the correct Video In channel. This channel is usually near channel 00. Or, you may have a button on the TV remote control that selects Auxiliar y or A/V IN channel. See your TV owner’s manual for details. Or, change channels at the TV until you see DVD screen on the TV. ✔If the progressive scan feature is activated but the connected TV does not suppor t progressive signals or the cables are not connected accordingly, see “Getting star ted-Setting up Progressive Scan feature” for proper progressive scan setup or deactivate the progressive scan feature as below: 1) Turn off your TV progressive scan mode or turn on to interlaced mode. 2) Press SYSTEM MENU on the remote to exit the system menu and then DISC 1 (or DISC 2) and “1” to exit progressive scan. ✔Sometimes a small amount of picture distor tion may appear. This is not a malfunction. ✔Clean the disc. ✔TV has a colour system standard. If the disc’s or DVD system’s colour system is different than your TV’s colour system, the picture may be distor ted or colourless.
40 English The aspect ratio of the screen cannot be changed even though you have set the TV shape. No sound or distorted sound. The micro DVD player does not start playback. The DVD micro system does not respond when the buttons are pressed. Cannot activate some features, such as Angles, Subtitles, or multi-language Audio. Considerable noise in radio broadcasts.✔The aspect ratio is fixed on the DVD disc. ✔Depending on the TV, it may not be possible to change the aspect ratio. ✔Adjust the volume. ✔Check that the speaker s are connected correctly. ✔Replace the speaker cables. ✔Disconnect the headphones. ✔The system is in pause, slow motion or fast forward/rever se mode, pressÉÅ to resume normal play mode. ✔Inser t a readable disc with the playback side facing down. ✔Check the disc type, colour system and regional code. Check for any scratches or smudges on the disc. ✔Press SYSTEM MENU to turn off the setup menu screen. ✔Cancel the parental control rating function or change the rating level. ✔Moisture has condensed inside the system. Remove the disc and leave the system turned on for about an hour. ✔Disconnect the power plug from the outlet and inser t again. ✔Multi-language sound or subtitle is not recorded on the DVD. ✔Changing the language for the sound or subtitle is prohibited on the DVD. ✔The features may not be available on the disc. ✔Tune in to the correct frequency. ✔Connect the antennas. ✔Fully extend the FM wire antenna. Position for best reception and secure to a wall. ✔Connect an outdoor FM antenna. ✔Adjust the direction and position for best reception. ✔Place the antenna far ther away from any equipment that may be causing the noise. ✔Increase the distance between the system and your TV or other equipment.
