    Preference Setup Page (underlined options are the factory default settings)
    Audio  Selects the preferred audio language for DVD playback.  
    Subtitle  Selects the preferred subtitle language for DVD playback.
    Disc Menu  Selects the preferred disc menu language for DVD playback.
    Note:  If the selected audio/subtitle/disc menu language is not available 
    on the DVD, the disc’s default language will be used instead.
    PBC  Play Back Control feature is applicable for VCD/SVCD only.  It 
    allows you to play Video CDs (2.0) interactively, following the 
    menu on the display.  
    { On }   –  The index menu (if available) will appear on 
    the TV when you load a VCD/SVCD.
    { Off }   –  The VCD/SVCD will skip the index menu and 
    playback directly from the beginning.
    MP3/JPEG Nav  MP3/JPEG Navigator can only be set if the disc is recorded with a 
    menu.  It allows you to select different display menus for easy 
    navigation.
    { Without Menu}  – Displays all the fi les contained in the MP3/
    Picture disc.
    { With Menu }  –  Displays the folder menu of the MP3/Picture 
    disc.
    Note:  This DVD system can only display 650 fi les/folder in the directory.
    Password  The password is used for the Disc Lock.  Enter your six-digit 
    password to play a locked disc or when prompted for a 
    password.  The default password is ‘136900’.  To change the 
    password:
    1) Press OK to access the change password menu.
    2) Use the numeric keypad 0-9 on the remote control to 
    enter your existing six-digit password at { Old Password }.
    Note:  When doing this for the fi rst time or if you forget your existing  
    password, key in ‘136900’.
    3)  Enter the new six-digit password at { New Password }.
    4)  Enter the new six-digit password again at { Confi rm PWD }.
    5) Press OK to confi rm and exit the menu.

    DivX Subtitle  Selects the font type that supports the recorded DivX subtitle.
    { Standard }   – Displays a standard list of Roman subtitle  
        fonts provided by this DVD system.
    { Central Europe }  – Displays Central Europe fonts.
    { Cyrillic }    – Displays Cyrillic fonts.
    { Greek }     – Displays Greek subtitle fonts.
    { Hebrew }   – Displays Hebrew fonts.
    { Chinese (Simp) }  – Displays Simplifi ed Chinese fonts.
    { Korean }    – Displays Korean fonts.
    Default  This feature enables you to reset all the setup menu options and 
    your personal settings to the factory defaults, except your 
    password for the Disc Lock.  Press OK to confi rm the default 
    reset.

    Check the current software version of 
    this DVD system:
    1) Press EJECT

    2) Press DISPLAY on the remote 
    control.    
    A Visit the Philips website ‘www.philips.
    com/support’ to check the availability of 
    the latest software upgrade. Download 
    the software to a CD-R.

    WARNING
    Under no circumstances should you try to repair the system yourself, as this will
    invalidate the warranty. Do not open the system as there is a risk of electric shock.
    If a fault occurs, fi rst check the points listed below before taking the system for repair. If
    you are unable to solve a problem by following these instructions, consult your dealer or
    Philips for help.
    No power.
    No picture.
    Completely distorted picture 
    or black/white picture.
    No sound or distorted sound.
    No surround sound effect 
    from the speakers.
    The remote control does not 
    function properly.–  Check if the AC power cord is properly connected.
    – Press the 2(STANDBY ON) on the front of the 
    DVD system to turn on the power.
    –  Refer to your TV’s manual for correct Video In 
    channel  selection. Change the TV channel until you 
    see the DVD screen.
    –  Press the DISC/USB button to select disc mode.
    –  If this happens when you are turning on the 
    progressive scan feature, wait for 15 seconds for the 
    auto recovery.
    –  If this happens when you are changing the setting of the  
    ‘TV TYPE’, wait for 15 seconds for the auto recovery.
    –  Check the video connection.
    –  Sometimes a small amount of picture distortion may  
     appear. This is not a malfunction.
    – Clean the disc.
    –  Adjust the volume.
    –  Check the speaker connections and settings.
    –  Make sure that the audio cables are connected and 
    press the SOURCE button to select the correct input 
    source (for example, TV or AUX/DI) to choose the 
    device that you want to hear through the DVD system.
    –  Press the SURR. button to select a correct surround 
    sound  setting.
    –  Make sure that the source you are playing is recorded or 
    broadcast in surround sound (DTS, Dolby Digital, etc.).
    –  Select the source you want to play (for example, 
    DISC/USB or TUNER) before pressing the function 
    button (X, ./ >).
    –  Reduce the distance between the remote control and 
    the system.
    –  Replace the batteries with new ones.
    –  Point the remote control directly toward the IR sensor.
    –  Check that the batteries are loaded correctly. Problem (General)   Solution

    The DVD system does not
    work.–  Insert a readable disc with the playback side facing 
    down. The DVD+R/CD-R must be fi nalised.
    –  Check for any scratches or smudges on the disc.
    –  Press SETUP to turn off the system setup menu  
     screen.
    –  You may need to enter the password in order to 
    change the parental control rating level or to unlock 
    the disc for playback.
    –  Moisture may have condensed inside the system. 
    Remove the disc and leave the system turned on for 
    about an hour.
    –  The aspect ratio is fi xed on the DVD disc.
    –  Depending on the TV, it may not be possible to 
    change the aspect ratio.
    –  The features may not be available on the DVD.
    –  Changing the language for the sound or subtitle is  
     prohibited on this DVD.
    –  Press STOP button twice before selecting the system 
    setup menu.
    –  Depending on the disc availability, some menu items 
    cannot be selected.
    –  Check that the DivX fi le is encoded in ‘Home 
    Theatre’ mode with DivX certifi ed encoder.
    –  If the signal is too weak, adjust the antenna or 
    connect an external antenna for better reception.
    –  Increase the distance between the system and your 
    TV or  VCR.
    –  Tune in to the correct frequency.
    –  Place the antenna further away from any equipment 
    that may be causing the interference.
    –  Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet 
    for a few minutes. Reconnect the power cord and try 
    to operate again as usual.

    The contents of the USB fl ash 
    drive cannot be read.
    Slow operation of the USB 
    fl ash drive.
    No HDMI audio output.
    No HDMI video output.–  The USB fl ash drive format is not compatible with the 
    system.
    –  Drive is formatted with a different fi le system which is 
    not supported by this DVD system (e.g. NTFS).
    –  Large fi le size or high memory USB fl ash drive takes 
    longer time to read and display on the TV.
    –   You will not hear any sound from the HDMI output if 
    the source device is only DVI/HDCP (High-
    bandwidth Digital Content Protection)-compatible.
    –   It is not possible to output SACD or copy-controlled 
    DVD-Audio sources from the HDMI connection.
    –  HDMI connection can only be made to HDMI-
    equipped devices with HDCP (High Bandwidth Digital 
    Content Protection).  If you wish to connect to a DVI 
    connector (equipped with HDCP), you will need a 
    separate adaptor (DVI to HDMI).
    –   Make sure the resolution of this DVD system matches 
    the device you have connected using the HDMI.  See 
    HDMI setting.
