Helpful Hints: – To hear the TV channels through this DVD system, use the audio cables (white/red - not supplied) to connect AUX IN sockets to the corresponding AUDIO OUT sockets on the TV (not required if you are using Scart connection). – Scart (RGB) Video provides better picture quality than Composite Video. Step 4:Connecting to TV L RPb PrY VIDEO AUDIOOUT INTV OROR Option 1: Using Scart socket Use the supplied scart video cable (black) to connect the DVD system’s SCART socket to the corresponding Scart input socket on the TV. OR Option 2: Using S-Video socket Use an S-video cable (not supplied) to connect the DVD system’s S-VIDEO socket to the S-Video input socket (or labelled as Y/C or S-VHS) on the TV. 12 3139 115 2xxx1 English Basic Connections (continued) IMPORTANT! –The progressive scan video quality is only possible when using Y Pb Pr and a progressive scan TV is required. –DO NOT connect both SCART and Y Pb Pr to a TV, it may affect the picture quality. 1Use the component video cables (red / blue / green - not supplied) to connect the DVD system’s Y Pb Pr sockets to the corresponding component video input sockets (or labelled as Y Pb/Cb Pr /Cr or YUV) on the TV. 2To hear the TV channels through this DVD system, use an audio cables (white / red - not supplied) to connect AUX IN sockets to the corresponding AUDIO OUT sockets on the TV. 3Proceed to page 20 for detailed Progressive Scan set up. Step 5: Connecting to a Progressive Scan TV (optional) L RPb PrY VIDEO AUDIOOUT IN TV 1Connect the supplied MW loop antenna to the MW socket. Place the MW loop antenna on a shelf, or attach it to a stand or wall. 2Connect the supplied FM antenna to the FM socket. Extend the FM antenna and fix its ends to the wall. For better FM stereo reception, connect an external FM antenna (not supplied). Helpful Hints: – Adjust the position of the antennas for optimal reception. – Position the antennas as far as possible from your TV, VCR or other radiation source to prevent unwanted interference. Never make or change any connections with the power switched on. Helpful Hint: – Refer to the type plate on the rear of the subwoofer for identification and supply ratings. 14 3139 115 2xxx1 English Viewing and listening to the playback 1Connect the VCR or Cable/Satellite Box to the TV as shown. 2Connect the DVD system’s AUX IN (R/L) sockets to the AUDIO OUT sockets on the VCR or cable/satellite box. Press AUX/DI on the remote to select “AUX” in order to activate the input source. You cannot record or dub protected discs using a VCR. 3Connect the DVD system’s S-VIDEO socket to the S-VIDEO IN socket on the VCR. 4Connect the DVD system’s LINE OUT (R/L) sockets to the AUDIO IN sockets on the VCR. This will allow you to make analogue stereo (two channel, right and left) recordings. English 15 3139 115 2xxx1 Listening to the playback Connect the DVD system’s DIGITAL IN socket to the DIGITAL OUT socket on a digital audio device. Press AUX/DI on the remote to select “DI” in order to activate the input source. Helpful Hints: – Some DVDs are copy-protected. You cannot record the disc through a VCR or digital recording device. – You cannot hear or record the SACD or MP3-CD playback if you use the digital connection. – For your playback through DIGITAL IN connection, set the digital output of that player to PCM format. – Always refer to the user manual of the other equipment for complete connection and use details. English 19 3139 115 2xxx1 Getting Started Step 1:Inserting batteries into the remote control 1 3 2 1Open the battery compartment. 2Insert two batteries type R06 or AA, following the indications (+-) inside the compartment. 3Close the cover. CAUTION! –Remove batteries if they are exhausted or if the remote control is not to be used for a long time. –Do not use old and new, or different types of batteries in combination. –Batteries contain hazardous chemical substances, so they should be disposed of properly. Using the remote control to operate the system 1Aim the remote control directly at the remote sensor (iR) on the front panel. 2Select the source you wish to control by pressing one of the source select buttons on the remote control (for example TV, TUNER). 3Then select the desired function (for example É, S, T). Step 2: Switching on the DVD system Press the SOURCE control to select : DISC ™ FM ™ MW ™ TV ™ AUX ™ DI ™ DISC .... OR Press DISC, TV, TUNER or AUX/DI on the remote. Switching to Eco Power standby mode Press STANDBY ON (B). ➜The display screen will go blank. Step 3:Setting the TV After connecting the DVD system to your TV, you have to switch the TV to the correct programme number for the input socket (e.g. ‘EXT’, ‘0’, ‘AV’) in order to view the playback from the DVD system. 1Press SOURCE control until “DISC” appears on the display panel. 2Turn on the TV and set it to the correct video-in channel. You should see the blue DVD background screen on the TV. ➜Usually this channel is between the lowest and highest channels and may be called FRONT, A/V IN, VIDEO. See your TV manual for more details. ➜Or, you may go to channel 1 on your TV, then press the Channel down button repeatedly until you see the Video In channel. ➜Or, the TV remote control may have a button or switch that chooses between different video modes. 001-049-hts3500-01-Eng 12/27/04, 6:28 PM19
20 3139 115 2xxx1 EnglishSetting up Progressive Scan feature (for Progressive Scan TV only) The progressive scan display twice the number of frames per seconds than interlaced scanning (ordinary normal TV system). With nearly double the number of lines, progressive scan offers higher picture resolution and quality. IMPORTANT! Before enabling the progressive scan feature, you must ensure : 1) Your TV can accept progressive signals, a progressive scan TV is required. 2) You have connected the DVD system to your TV using Y Pb Pr (see page 12). 1Turn off your TV progressive scan mode or turn on interlaced mode (refer to your TV user manual). 2Press DISC on the remote to turn on the DVD system. 3Turn on your TV and select the correct Video Input channel (see page 19). ➜The blue DVD background screen will appear on the TV. 4Press SETUP on the remote. 5Press 2 to select { Video Setup Page }. Video Setup Page TV Type TV Display Progressive Picture Setting Component 6Select { Component } > { YUV }, then press OK to confirm. 7Select { Progressive } > { On }, then press OK to confirm. ➜The below menu will appear on the TV. HINTS:(refer to the owner's manual) ACTIVATING PROGRESSIVE: 1. Ensure your TV has progressive scan. 2. Connect with YPbPr(GBR) video cable. 3. If there is a blank screen on normal TV, wait 15 seconds for auto recover. CancelOK 8Press 1 to highlight OK in the menu and press OK to confirm. There will be no picture on your TV at this state until you turn on the progressive scan mode on your TV. 9Turn on your TV progressive scan mode (refer to your TV user manual). ➜The below menu will appear on the TV. Confirm again to use progressive scan If picture is good press OK on remote CancelOK 0Press 1 to highlight OK in the menu and press OK to confirm. ➜The set up is complete now and you can start enjoy the high quality picture. If no picture: Wait for 15 seconds for auto recovery. OR 1Deactivate Progressive Scan feature by pressing the OPEN CLOSE 0 on the DVD system to open the disc tray. 2Press 1 on the remote control. 3Press MUTE on the remote. ➜The blue DVD background screen will appear on the TV. Helpful Hint: – There are some progressive scan TV and High-Definition TV sets that are not fully compatible with this DVD system, resulting in the unnatural picture when playing back a DVD VIDEO disc in the progressive scan mode. In such a case, turn off the progressive scan feature on both the DVD system and your TV set. Getting Started (continued) TIPS:The underlined option is the factory default setting.
