    3.2	SmartContrast
    	 What	is	it?	
    Unique	technology	that	dynamically	analyzes

    backlighting	for	clearer,	crisper	and	brighter

    	 How	does	it	work?	
    When	you 	activate 	Smar tContrast, 	it 	will 	analyse	
    the	content	you	are	displaying	in	real	time	to	
    adjust	colors	and	control	backlight	intensity. 	This

    3.3	Philips	SmartControl	Premium
    The	new	Smar tControl	Premium	software	
    by	Phillips	allows	you	to	control	your	monitor	
    via	an	easy	to	use	on-screen	graphic	interface. 		
    Complicated	adjustments	are	a	thing	of	the	
    past	as	this	user	friendly	software	guides	you	
    through	fine-tuning	resolution,	Color	calibration,	
    Clock/Phase	adjustments, 	RGB	White	point	
    adjustment, 	etc.		
    Equipped	with	latest	technology	in	core	
    algorithm	for	fast	processing	and	response, 	this	
    Windows	7	compliant	eye	catching	animated	
    Icon	based	software	is	ready	to	enhance	your	
    experience	with	Philips	monitors!
    	 Installation
    •	Follow	the	instruction	 and	complete	 the	
    installation. 	
    •	You	can	launch	 after	installation	 is	
    completed.	
    •	If	you	 want	 to	launch	 later,	you	 can	either	
    click	 the	shor tcut	 on	desktop	 or	toolbar.
    First	launch	-Wizard
    •	The	f irst	time	af ter	installation	of	Smar t-
    Control	Premium,	it	will	automatically	go	
    to	Wizard	for	f irst	time	launch.	
    •	The	wizard	will	guide	you	through	adjust-
    ment	your	monitor	per formance	step	by	
    step.	
    •	You	can	go	to	Plug-in	menu	to	launch	
    wizard	later	on	as	well.

    •	You	can	adjust	more	options	without	
    wizard	by	Standard	pane.
    	Start	with	Standard	pane:
    Adjust	menu:
    •	Adjust	Menu	allow	you	to	adjust	Bright-
    ness,	 Contrast,	Focus,	Position	and	Reso-
    lution.	
    •	You	can	follow	the	instruction	and	do	the	
    adjustment.	
    •	Cancel	prompts	user	if	you	want	to	cancel	
    installation.

    Color	menu:	
    •	Color	Menu	allow	you	to	adjust	RGB,	
    Black	Level,	White	Point,	Color	Calibra-
    tion,	and	Smar tImage	(Please	refer	to	
    Smar tImage	section).	
    •	You	can	follow	the	instruction	and	do	the	
    adjustment.	
    •	Refer	to	below	table	for	sub-menu	item	
    base	on	your	input.

    1.	"Show	Me"	star ts	 color	calibration	 tutorial.

    sequence. 	
    3.	Quick	View	loads	 the	before/after	 images.	
    4.	To	return	 to	Color	 home	 pane,	click	 the	
    Cancel	 button.	
    5.	Enable	 color	calibration	 -	by	 default	 is	on. 	
    If	unchecked, 	does	 not	allow	 for	color	
    calibration	 to	happen, 	dimes	 out	star t	 and	
    quick	 view	buttons. 	
    6.	Must	have	patent	 info	in	calibration	 screen.
    	First	color	Calibration	Screen: 	
    •	Previous	button	is	disabled	until	the	sec-
    ond	color	screen.	
    •	Nex t	goes	to	the	succeeding	target	
    (6 -targets).	
    •	Final	nex t	goes	File>Presets	pane.	
    •	Cancel	closes	the	UI	and	returns	to	the	
    plug	in	page.
    SmartImage
    Allows	user	to	change	setting	for	better	display	
    setting	based	on	content.
    When	Enter tainment	is	set,	Smar tContrast	and	
    Smar tResponse	are	enabled.

    Theft	Deterrence	Pane	will	only	be	active	when	
    selecting	Theft	Deterrence	Mode	from	the	
    drop-down	Plug	Ins	menu.
    To	enable	 Theft	Deterrence, 	clicking	Enable	
    Theft	Deterrence	Mode	button	brings	up	the	
    following	screen:
    •	User	can	enter	PIN	between	4	and	9	digits	
    numbers	only.	
    •	Af ter	entering	PIN,	Accept	button	takes	
    user	to	the	pop-up	dialog	box	on	the	fol-
    lowing	page.	
    •	Minimum	minutes	set	to	5.	Slider	set	to	5	
    by	default.	
    •	Does	not	require	the	display	be	attached	
    to	a	different	host	to	go	into	Thef t	Deter-
    rence	mode.
    After	creating	PIN, 	the	Theft	Deterrence	pane	
    will	indicate	 Theft	Deterrence	Enabled	and	
    provide	PIN	Options	button:
    •	Thef t	Deterrence	Enabled	is	displayed.	
    •	Disable	Thef t	Deterrence	Mode	opens	
    pane	screen	on	nex t	page.	
    •	PIN	Options	button	only	available	af ter	
    user	creates	PIN,	button	opens	secure	
    PIN	web	site.
    Options>Preferences	-	Will	only	be	active	
    when	selecting	Preferences	from	the	drop-
    down	Options	menu. 	On	a	non-suppor ted	
    display	capable	of	DDC/CI, 	only	the	Help	and	
    Options	tabs	are	available.

    •	Displays	current	preference	settings.	
    •	A	checked	box	enables	the	feature.	The	
    check	box	is	a	toggle.	
    •	Enable	Contex t	Menu	on	desk top	is	
    checked	(On)	by	default.	Enable	Contex t	
    menu	displays	Smar tControl	Premium	se-
    lections	for	Select	Preset	and	Tune	Display	
    in	the	desk top	right-click	contex t	menu.	
    Disabled	removes	Smar tControl	Premium	
    from	the	right	click	contex t	menu.	
    •	Enable	Task	Tray	icon	is	checked	(On)	
    by	default.	Enable	contex t	menu	shows	
    the	task	tray	menu	for	Smar tControl	
    Premium.	A	right	click	on	the	task	tray	
    icon	displays	the	menu	options	for	Help,	
    Technical	Suppor t.	Check	for	Upgrade,	
    About,	and	Exit.	When	Enable	task	tray	
    menu	is	disabled,	the	task	tray	icon	will	
    only	display	EXIT.	
    •	Run	at	Star tup	is	checked	(On)	by	default.	
    When	disabled,	Smar tControl	Premium	
    will	not	launch	at	star t	or	be	in	the	task	
    tray.	The	only	way	to	launch	Smar tControl	
    Premium	is	either	from	the	desk top	shor t	
    cut	or	from	the	program	f ile.	Any	preset	
    set	to	run	at	star tup	will	not	load	when	
    this	box	is	unchecked	(Disabled).	
    •	Enable	transparency	mode		( Windows	7,	
    Vista,	XP).	Default	is	0%	Opaque.
    Options>Input	-	Will	only	be	active	when	
    selecting	Input	from	the	drop-down	Options	
    menu. 	On	a	non-suppor ted	display	capable	of	
    DDC/CI, 	only	the	Help	and	Options	tabs	are	
    available.	All	other	Smar tControl	Premium	tabs	
    are	not	available.
    •	Display	the	Source	instruction	pane	and	
    current	input	source	setting.	
    •	On	single	input	displays,	this	pane	will	not	
    be	visible.

    Options>Audio	-	Will	only	be	active	when	
    selecting	 Volume	from	the	drop-down	Options	
    menu.
    On	a	non-suppor ted	display	capable	of	DDC/
    CI,	only	the	Help	and	Options	tabs	are	available. 	
    Option>Auto	Pivot
    Help>User	Manual	-	Will	only	be	active	when	
    selecting	User	Manual	from	the	drop-down	
    Help	menu. 	On	a	non-suppor ted	display	
    capable	of	DDC/CI, 	only	the	Help	and	Options	
    tabs	are	available.
    Help>Version	-	Will	only	be	active	when	
    selecting	 Version	from	the	drop-	down	Help	
    menu.	On	a	non-suppor ted	display	capable	of	
    DDC/CI, 	only	the	Help	and	Options	tabs	are

    Context	Sensitive	menu
    The	Context	Sensitive	menu	is	Enabled	by	
    default.	If	Enable	Context	Menu	has	been	
    checked	in	the	Options>Preferences	pane, 	then	
    the	menu	will	be	visible.
    The	Context	Menu	has	four	entries:
    •	Smar tControl	Premium	-	When	selected	
    the	About	Screen	is	displayed.	
    •	Select	Preset	-	Provides	a	hierarchical	
    menu	of	saved	presets	for	immediate	
    use.	A	check	mark	shows	the	currently	
    selected	preset.	Facoty	Preset	can	also	be	
    called	from	the	drop	down	menu.	
    •	Tune	Display	-	Opens	the	Smar tControl	
    Premium	control	panel.	
    •	Smar tImage	-	Check	current	settings,	Of-
    f ice,	Photo,	Movie,	Game,	Economy,	Off.
    Task	Tray	Menu	Enabled
    The	task	tray	menu	can	be	displayed	by	right-
    clicking	on	the	Smar tControl	Premium	icon	
    from	the	task	tray. 	Left	Click	will	launch	the	
    application.
    The	task	tray	has	five	entries:
    •	Help	-	Access	to	User	Manual	f ile:	Open	
    User	Manual	f ile	using	the	default	browser	
    window.	
    •	Technical	Suppor t	-	displays	the	tech	sup-
    por t	page.	
    •	Check	for	Update	-	takes	the	user	to	PDI	
    Landing	and	checks	the	user's	version	
    against	the	most	current	available.	
    •	About	-	Displays	detailed	reference	infor-
    mation:	product	version,	release	informa-
    tion,	and	product	name.	
    •	Exit	-	Close	Smar tControl	Premium	
    To	run	Smar tControl	Premium	again	
    either	select	Smar tControl	Premium	from	
    Program	menu,	double-click	the	desk top	
    PC	icon	or	restar t	the	system.
    Task	Tray	Menu	Disabled
    When	the	 Task	Tray	is	disabled	in	the	preference	
    folder, 	only	the	EXIT	selection	is	available. 	To	
    completely	remove	Smar tControl	Premium	
    from	the	task	tray, 	disable	Run	at	Star tup	in	
    Options>Preferences.

    3.4	SmartDesktop	Guide
    	 SmartDesktop
    Smar tDesktop	is	in	Smar tControl	Premium.		
    Install	Smar tControl	Premium	and	select	
    Smar tDesktop	from	Options.
    •	Align	to	par tition	check	box	will	enable	
    automatic	alignment	for	the	window	when	 	
    dragged	into	the	def ined	par tition.	
    •	Select	the	desired	par tition	by	clicking	on	
    the	icon.		The	par tition	will	be	applied	to	
    the	desk top	and	the	icon	will	be	high-
    lighted.
    •	Identify	provides	 a	quick	 way	to	view	 the	
    grid.
    	 Drag	and	Drop	 Windows
    Once	the	par titions	are	configured	and	 Align	to	
    par tition	is	selected	a	window	can	be	dragged	
    into	the	region	and	it	will	automatically	align. 		
    When	the 	window 	and 	mouse 	cursor 	are 	within	
    the	region, 	the	region	will	become	highlighted.
    	 Note
    If	the	outline	of	the	region	is	not	visible	when	
    dragging	the	window, 	“Show	windows	contents	
    while	dragging” 	is	disabled.		To	enable:
    1.	In	 Control	 Panel,	click	 System.
    2.	Click	 Advanced	 system	settings		 (For	Vista	
    &	Win7	 OS,	this	 is	located	 on	the	 left	
    sidebar)
    3.	In	Performance	 section,	click	 Settings.
    4.	In	the	 box, 	check	 Show	window	 contents	
    while	dragging, 	and	 click	 OK.
    Other	alternative	path:
    Vista:
    Control	Panel	>	Personalization	>	 Window	
    Color	and	Appearance	>	Click	"Open	Classic	
    appearance	proper ties	for	more	color	options"	
    >	Click	"Effects"	button	>	check	Show	window	
    contents	while	dragging
    XP:
    Display	Proper ties>Appearance>Effects...>	
    check	Show	window	contents	while	dragging
    Win	7:

    	 Title	Bar	Options
    Desktop	par tition 	can 	be 	accessed 	from 	the 	title	
    bar	of	the	active	window. 		This	provides	a	quick	
    and	easy	way	to	manage	the	desktop	as	well	as	
    sending	any	window	to	any	par tition	without	
    having	to	drag	and	drop. 			Move	the	cursor	into	
    the	active	window’s	title	bar	to	access	the	drop	
    down	menu.
    	 Right	Click	Menu
    Right	click	on	the	Desktop	Par tition	icon	to	
    view	the	drop	down	menu.
    1.	Find	Windows	–	 In	 some	 cases,	the	 user	
    may	 have	 sent	multiple	 windows	 to	the	
    same	 par tition. 		Find	 Window	 will	show	
    all	open	 windows	 and	move	 the	selected	
    window	 to	the	 forefront.
    2.	Desktop	 Partition	–	 Desktop	 Par tition	
    shows	the	current	 selected	 par tition	 and	
    allows	the	user	 to	quickly	 change	 to	any	 of	
    the	par titions	 shown	in	the	 drop	 down.
    	Note
    If	more	than	one	display	is	attached, 	the	user	
    can	select	the	targeted	display	to	change	the	
    par tition.		The	highlighted	icon	represents	the	
    current	active	par tition.
    3.	Identify	 Partition	–	Displays	 the	outline	
    grid	 on	the	 desktop	 for	the	 current	
    par tition.
    4.	Align	 On/Align	 Off	–	 Enables/disables	 the	
    drag	and	drop	 auto	align	feature.
    5.	Exit	–	 Closes	 Desktop	 Par tition	and	
    Display	Tune.		To	 re-initialize, 	launch	Display	
    Tune	 from	the	star t	 menu	 or	shor t	 cut	on	
    the	 desktop.
    	Left	Click	Menu
    Left	click	on	the	Desktop	Par tition	icon	to	
    quickly	send	the	active	window	to	any	par tition	
    without	having	to	drag	and	drop. 	Releasing	the	
    mouse	will	send	the	window	to	the	highlighted	
    par tition.
    	Task	Tray	Right	Click
    The	task	tray	also	contains	most	of	the	features	
    suppor ted	in	the	title	bar	(with	the	exception	
    of	automatically	sending	a	window	to	any	
    par tition).
