Attaching the belt clip Basic Operation TAPE PLAYBACK Operation During playback, press [∫]. [DIR] switched to FWD: In the stop mode, press [5] (fast forward) or [6] (rewind). [DIR] switched to REV: In the stop mode, press [6] (fast forward) or [5] (rewind). In the stop mode or during playback, set [DIR] to REV or FWD. RADIO RECEPTION Function To stop Operation During reception, press [RADIO ON/OFF]. NOTE: Press [∫] to stop the tape before operating the radio. While playing a tape, the radio will not turn on even if you press [RADIO ON/OFF]. You can use normal type tapes only. This unit will not be able to do full justice to characteristics of high and metal position tapes even if they are played back. Have the batteries been installed with their polarities (+, -) reversed? ≥Is the headphone plug firmly connected to the [Ë] jack? ≥Is the plug dirty? Preset tuning Frequencies of up to 20 radio stations (10 each for AM and FM) can be stored in memory. ∫Memory presetting1Tune in the station to be stored. 2Select the Memory channel (1-10). ≥Memory channels 1 to 5 Press [PRESET] so “ ” flashes, then press and hold a numeric button ([1] – [5]) for about 2 sec- onds. MFM1. Damage requiring service—The unit should be ser- viced by qualified service personnel if: 1.(a) Objects or liquids have gotten into the unit; or 1.(b) The unit has been exposed to rain; or 1.(c) The unit does not operate normally or exhibits a marked change in performance; or 1.(d) The unit has been dropped or the cabinet damaged.2. FM ∫How to receive an FM broadcast clearly Set [FM RECEPTION] to NOR. When FM reception is impaired, or there is interference from a powerful station, set to CITY. AMFM RECEPTIONCITYNOR ≥Between functions (play, fast forward or rewind), always press [∫] first to avoid jamming the tape. ≥When the tape reaches the end after fast forward or rewind, press [∫] to release the button. Auto-reverse Play continues, looping forward and reverse, until you press [∫]. Note: ≥Do not open the cassette compart- ment cover during tape operation. XBS Boosts the low frequency range. ≥If sound distortion occurs, turn down the volume. Concerning the hold function This function prevents the unit from being operated even if any of the front panel buttons are pressed in error. To obtain better reception When using overseas Change the frequency step to suit the area. Changing the frequency steps erases the preset stations. Hearing experts advise against continuous ex- tended play. If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce volume or discontinue use. Do not use while operating a motor- ized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many areas. You should use extreme caution or temporarily discontinue use in poten- tially hazardous situations. Even if your headphones or ear- phones are the open-air type designed to let you hear outside sounds, don’t turn up the volume so high that you can’t hear what’s around you.Sound can be deceiving. Over time your hearing “comfort level” adapts to higher volumes of sound. So what sounds “normal” can actually be loud and harmful to your hearing. Guard against this by setting your equipment at a safe level BEFORE your hearing adapts. The indicator lights for about 5 seconds. When the batteries are weak The indicator starts flashing and then: Leaving the unit in this condition erases the contents of the memory. Replacing the batteries within 30 sec- onds will retain any stored information. ≥Align the poles (+and -) properly when inserting the battery. ≥Remove all the batteries if the set will not be used for a long period of time. ≥Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries. ≥Do not recharge ordinary dry cell batteries. ≥Do not use the batteries if the cover- ing has been peeled off.
