    perform other operations in one easy step.

     Fade-in/Fade-out 
    This function gradually fades images and audio in and out at the very beginning 
    and very end of recording.
     Display operation icons. Select  [].

    ● Cannot be used during still picture recording.
    ●  Thumbnail can be either black or white.

     Soft skin mode  
    Softens skin colors when people’s faces are prominent in picture.
     Display operation icons. Select  [].

    ●  Background colors that are close to skin colors may also be softened.
    ●  Faces may be blurred if people in picture are distant.
    ●  Function may not be effective in locations with insufficient brightness.
    ●  The setting is not canceled even when power is shut OFF or the mode dial is 
    rotated.
     MagicPix function 
    Colors can be brought out even in dark locations (brightness of at least 2 lx). 
    (Recorded scene is seen as if frames were missed.)

    ●  Normally invisible spots of light may become visible.
    ●  Using a tripod is recommended.

    ●  Shutting OFF the power or rotating the mode dial cancels the setting.

    Adjusting focus manually (manual focus adjustment)  
    Manually focus the subject if it cannot be brought into focus by automatic focus. 
    For example, focusing is hard in the following situations:
      • Mixture of close and distant objects       • Objects beyond unclear glass
     • Bright peripheral lights                     • Dark locations
     • Fast-moving objects                        • Objects with little contrast

    Using situation-specific settings (scene mode)  
    Already prearranged settings can be used.   After  steps 1 and 2 (previous page)
     →[BASIC]→[SCENE MODE]→select from the five modes below:
    SportsFor fast-moving scenes
    •  Avoids blurring during slow-motion playback or playback pause. (In normal 
    playback, image movement may not look smooth.)
    •  Avoid fluorescent, mercury, and sodium lighting. Such lighting conditions 
    may affect coloring and brightness.
    •  Horizontal bands of light may appear during playback on shining or highly 
    reflective objects.
    •  This function may not work if lighting is insufficient ([
    ] flashes).
    •  Screen may flicker if using indoors.
    PortraitBlurs background to make people stand out
    •  Screen may flicker if using indoors.
    Low lightBrightens dark scenes such as evening skies
    •  May not function successfully in extremely dark scenes.
    SpotlightFor people beneath spotlights, etc.
    •  Pictures may appear white when object is extremely bright. Peripheries may 
    also appear extremely dark.
    Surf & snowFor bright locations such as beaches and ski slopes
    •  Pictures may appear white when object is extremely bright.
    The icon of the selected scene mode

    Recording colors and audio suited for underwater 
    environments (Underwater mode)
    ●  Please adjust white balance first if using in conjunction with iris/gain setting.Press and hold

    • Cancel the underwater mode when not underwater.
    •  In underwater recording, a loud buzzing sound made 
    by the unit’s motor will be heard, but by setting the 
    underwater mode, an audio filter is activated to 
    reduce the motor noise. (The sound quality in the 
    underwater mode will differ from what is heard in 
    other modes.) In addition, the motor noise can be 
    further reduced by selecting manual focus. (P.44)

    When out of range, images become reddish or bluish. Moreover, the mode does not 
    work properly even when within range if multiple light sources are used. In such cases,

    Set the shutter speed between 1/60 and 1/100.
    ●  In automatic recording, shutter speed can be adjusted up to 1/350.

    By setting your travel destination, the time difference is automatically calculated 
    and displayed accordingly. Time settings (P.30) must be made first.

    buttons after [SET HOME LOCATION.] appears on the LCD monitor and 
    proceed to step
