I cannot make calls. The unit does not work. The unit does not ring. The unit displays the following message though the paper is inserted. The other party complains they only hear a fax tone and cannot talk. The button does not function properly. The receive mode does not function as explained on pages 58 and 59. During programming, I cannot enter the code or ID number. The ink film runs out quickly. The unit beeps. The speakerphone is not working. REDIAL/PAUSE 11CHECK1PAPER The power cord or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the connections (p. 14). If you used a splitter to connect the unit, remove the splitter and connect the unit to the wall jack directly. If the unit operates properly, check the splitter. The dialing mode setting is wrong. Change the setting of feature #13 (p. 83). Disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect the line to a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired. If the working telephone does not operate properly, contact your telephone company. The ringer volume is set to off. Adjust it to a suitable level (p. 22, 23). The TAD ring count of feature #06 is set to “RINGER OFF”. Change to another ring count (p. 83). Use the overseas transmission mode of feature #23 (p. 84). Add two pauses at the end of the telephone number (p. 33) or dial manually. Cause & Remedy The other party complains that dirty patterns or black lines appear on their received document. I cannot make an international fax call. Fax – receiving Problem The receive mode is set to the TEL mode. Set to the TAD/FAX, FAX ONLY or TEL/FAX mode (p. 58, 59). The time taken to answer the call is too long. Decrease the number of rings of features #06 (p. 83), #30 (p. 85) and #78 (p. 88). The greeting message is too long. Shorten the message (p. 70). The incoming call is not a fax. Change the receive mode to the TEL or TAD/FAX mode (p. 58, 59). The other party sent a faint document. Ask them to send a clearer copy of the document. The thermal head is dirty. Clean it (p. 104). Some paper has instructions recommending which side to print on. Try turning the paper over. We recommend smooth paper such as Hammermill Jet Print for clearer printing. Check the document of the other party. If a blank sheet is ejected after the received document is printed out, the receiving reduction rate is not programmed correctly. Program the proper rate in feature #36 (p. 85). The other party placed the document in their fax machine the wrong way. Check with the other party. Press until a single beep is heard.FAX R Cause & Remedy I cannot receive documents automatically. The display shows the following message but faxes are not received. The recording image is faint. I cannot retrieve recorded messages from a remote location. While operating the answering device from the handset, a series of tones is heard. I cannot operate the answering device with the handset.
