Contact our service personnel. lThe covers are open. Close them. lThe ink film is empty. Replace the ink film with a new one (p. 72, 73). lThe ink film is not installed. Install it (p. 72, 73). lThe ink film is slack. Tighten it (see step 6 on page 73). lThe document is not fed into the unit properly. Reinsert the document. If misfeeding occurs frequently, clean the document feeder rollers (p. 74) and try again. If the problem remains, adjust the feeder pressure (p. 70). lMemory (telephone numbers, parameters, etc.) has been erased. Re-program. lThe recording paper is not installed or the unit has run out of paper. Install paper and press to clear the message. lThe recording paper is not fed into the unit properly. Reinstall paper (p. 13) and press to clear the message. lThe recording paper has jammed near the recording paper entrance. Clear the jammed paper (p. 69) and press to clear the message. Do not install folded or heavily curled paper. lThe unit has a document in memory. See the other displayed message instructions to print out the document. lMemory is full of received documents due to a lack of recording paper or a recording paper jam etc. Install paper or clear the jammed paper. lWhen performing memory transmission, the document being stored exceeds the memory capacity of the unit. Transmit the entire document manually. lThere is no space to store new stations in the JOG DIAL directory. Erase unnecessary stations (p. 32). The unit does not work. The unit does not ring. The unit displays the following message though the paper is inserted. The other party complains they only hear a fax tone and cannot talk. The button does not function properly. The receive mode does not function as explained on pages 42 and 43. During programming, I cannot enter the code or ID number. The ink film runs out quickly. The unit beeps. The button does not function. The CHARGE light never goes out while charging. HANDSET LOCATOR REDIAL/PAUSE CHECKPAPER lThe power cord or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the connections (p. 14). lIf you used a splitter to connect the unit, remove the splitter and connect the unit to the wall jack directly. If the unit operates properly, check the splitter. lThe dialing mode setting is wrong. Change the setting of feature #13 (p. 55). lDisconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect the line to a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired. If the working telephone does not operate properly, contact your telephone company. lThe ringer volume is set to off. Adjust it to a suitable level (p. 22). lThe paper is inserted halfway. Insert it correctly (p. 13) and press to clear the message. lThe FAX ONLYmode is set. Tell them the number is only used for faxes or change to TELor TEL/FAX mode (p. 43). lIf this button is pressed during dialing, a pause will be inserted. An alarm tone sounds continuously while using the handset. Static, sound cuts in/out, fades. Interference from other electrical units. The handset stops working while being used. I cannot store a telephone number in the handset memory. While storing a telephone number in the handset, it starts to ring. I cannot redial by pressing . The RECHARGE indicator flashes or the handset beeps intermittently. I charged the battery fully, but the RECHARGE indicator flashes. I cannot receive documents by pressing on the handset. FAX REDIAL/PAUSE TALK lMake sure that the battery is installed correctly (p. 71). lCharge the battery fully (p. 20). lClean the charge contacts (p. 75) and charge again. lThe ringer volume is set to off. Press (p. 22). lThe handset is too far from the main unit. Move closer and try again. lPlace the handset on the main unit and try again. lThe power cord is disconnected. Plug in the power cord. lQuickly move closer to the main unit or the call will be terminated within 60 seconds. lThe power cord is disconnected. Plug in the power cord. lLocate the handset and the main unit away from electrical appliances. lMove closer to the main unit. lPress to select a clear channel. lRaise the main unit antenna. lPlace the handset on the main unit, and disconnect the power cord to reset the unit. Connect the power cord, and try again. lYou cannot store a number while the unit is in the talk or intercom mode. lDo not pause for over 30 seconds while storing a mumber. lTo answer a call, press . The program will be canceled. Store the number again. lThe redial function does not work right after storing telephone numbers in the handset or (p. 28, 29). lIf the last number dialed was more than 32 digits long, the number will not be redialed. lCharge the battery fully (p. 20). lClean the charge contacts (p. 75) and charge again. lIt is time to replace the battery. Connect to the LINE jack (p. 14). lThe other party’s fax machine is busy or has run out of recording paper. Try again. lThe other party’s machine is not a facsimile. Check with the other party. lThe other party’s fax machine rings too many times. Send a fax manually – dial the number, confirm the fax tone, then press . lIf your line has special telephone services such as call waiting, the service may have been activated during fax transmission. Connect the unit to a line that does not have these services. lThe extension telephone on the same line is off the hook. Hang up the extension telephone and try again. lTry copying the document. If the copied image is clear, there may be something wrong with the other party’s machine. lThe glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 74). lUse the overseas transmission mode of feature #23 (p. 56). lAdd two pauses at the end of the telephone number (p. 27) or dial manually. FAX START Cause & Remedy I cannot send documents. The other party complains that letters on their received document are distorted or not clear. The other party complains that dirty patterns or black lines appear on their received document. I cannot make an international fax call. Fax – receiving Problem lThe telephone line cord is connected to the EXTjack on the unit. Connect to the LINE jack (p. 14). lThe receive mode is set to the TELmode. Set to the FAX ONLYor TEL/FAX mode (p. 42, 43). lThe time taken to answer the call is too long. Decrease the number of rings of features #06 (p. 55), #30 (p. 57) and #78 (p. 59). lThe incoming call is not a fax. Change the receive mode to the TELmode (p. 43). Cause & Remedy I cannot receive documents. I cannot receive documents automatically. The display shows the following message but faxes are not received. CONNECTING..... (continued)

Receive mode Problem lIf you want to set the FAX ONLYor TEL/FAX mode: —Select the desired mode using feature #77 (p. 59), and —Press to turn on the arrow ( t) on the right of the display. The other party complains that they cannot send a document. Fax – receiving (cont.) Problem lThe other party sent a faint document. Ask them to send a clearer copy of the document. lThe thermal head is dirty. Clean it (p. 75). lSome paper has instructions recommending which side to print on. Try turning the paper over. We recommend smooth paper such as HammermillJet Print for clearer printing. lCheck the document of the other party. lIf a blank sheet is ejected after the received document is printed out, the receiving reduction rate is not programmed correctly. Program the proper rate in feature #36 (p. 57). lThe other party placed the document in their fax machine the wrong way. Check with the other party. lPress until a single beep is heard.FAX R Cause & Remedy The recording image is faint. The printing quality is poor. Ablank sheet is ejected. I cannot receive documents by pressing on the handset. FAX

Shorten the message (up to 10 seconds). lThe answering machine rings too many times. Set to 1 or 2 rings. lThe silent detection feature is deactivated. Activate feature #40 (p. 57). lCheck if the answering machine is turned on and connected to the fax machine properly (p. 46). lSet the number of rings on the answering machine to 1 or 2. lThe remote access code on your answering machine is the same as your fax activation code. Set a different number for features #12 (p. 55) and #41 (p. 58). lYou did not program your remote access code in your fax machine correctly. Program the same code that is programmed on the answering machine to the fax machine with feature #12 (p. 55). lThe greeting message has a silent pause longer than 4 seconds. Re-record the greeting message. Cause & Remedy I cannot receive documents automatically. I cannot receive voice messages. I cannot retrieve recorded voice messages on the answering machine from a remote location. The greeting message on the answering machine is interrupted halfway and the caller cannot leave a voice message. Copying Problem lYou cannot make a copy during programming. Make the copy after programming or stop the programming. lThe glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 74). lThe thermal head is dirty. Clean it (p. 75). lSome paper has instructions recommending which side to print on. Try turning the paper over. We recommend smooth paper such as HammermillJet Print for clearer printing. lYou may have used paper with a cotton and/or fiber content that is over 20%, such as letterhead or resume paper. We recommend smooth paper such as HammermillJet Print for clearer printing. R R Cause & Remedy The unit does not make a copy. Adirty pattern or a black line appears on the copied document. If a power failure occurs! lThe unit will not function. lFax transmission and reception will be interrupted. lIf delayed transmission of feature #25 (p. 56) is programmed and the start time has passed during a power failure, transmission will be attempted soon after power is restored. lIf an extension telephone/answering machine is connected to the EXTjack of the fax machine, you may be able to use it during a power failure. lIf fax documents are stored in memory, they will be lost. When power is restored, a power down report will be printed out stating which contents in memory have been erased. Problem lThe code may include “#” which is used for certain features provided by telephone companies. Change the code on the answering machine to another number which does not include “#”. Also change the code of the fax machine with feature #12 (p. 55). lAdvise the caller not to pause for over 4 seconds while recording their voice message. lYour answering machine has run out of recording tape. Rewind the tape to record messages. lYou set the answering machine to only give a greeting message. lYou paused for over 4 seconds during the conversation. Do not pause for more than 4 seconds, or turn off feature #40 (p. 57). Cause & Remedy I pressed the remote access code to access the answering machine remotely, but the line was disconnected. Callers complain that their voice message is interrupted halfway and they cannot leave a message. Callers complain that they cannot send a document. When I answer a call with the extension telephone, the fax machine switches to the fax mode and I cannot talk with the other party.

If the unit does not eject any recording paper during fax reception or copying, the recording paper has jammed and the display will show the following message. Sending document does not feed, or multi-feeds! 1 Open the front cover by pulling up the center part. 2 Shift the position of the green lever by using an instrument with a pointed end, such as a paper clip.
