(1) HDD unit 
HDD in special canister 
The HDDs can  be added and replaced  by using the front
panel of the net work disk recorder. Refer to page 22 for
details. Contact your dealer  for information on purchasing
and replacing HDDs.

Sho ws the operating status of the HDDs.

(1) External input connector [EXT IN] 
Use to connect the extension unit and the net work disk
recorder  with the connection ca ble provided. 
(2) Signal GND terminal [SIGNAL GND] 
Use as a ground  when the extension unit s signal GND
terminal is connected to the  signal GND terminal of another
device on the system. Oscillat ion, static, or other noise
related pro blems may occur if a ground is not connected.

Use the following procedure to attach the connection ca bles with the
ca ble clamp provided. 
1Attach the cable clamp (provided) to the rear panel of the
unit in the mounting  holes and run the cables throu gh
the clamp mechanism. 
 Lightly pull on the ca ble clamp to make sure it does not
come loose. 
2Ti ghten the cable clamps belt all the way. 
3Slide the mechanism of the cable clamp to lock the
connection cables connectors in place.

Getting Started
The procedure to start operations is sho wn belo w. 
Setup Procedure
1Rack Mounting  Mount the extension unit into the rack (page 15). 
Go to step 2 if you are not using a rack. 
2Connections Connect the extension unit to the net work disk recorder (page 16). 
3Power OnTurn on the po wer (page 18). 
Turn on the po wer of the extension units  before turning on the power of the
network disk recorder.

Install the extension unit into an EIA standard compliant rack. 
Note:
 Installation in a rack re quires four M5 x 12 scre ws.
1Remove the 5 rubber feet from the underside of the
recorder.
Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the ru bber
feet.
2Attach the handle for rack mountin g bracket to the rack
mountin g brackets. 
Use the four handle fixing scre ws for rack mounting  bracket
and  washers to secure them.

When connecting multiple extension units to a network disk recorder ( WJ-ND400), place the recorder in the center of the rack. 
Connect the extension unit and the net work disk recorder with the connection cable (1 m {39.4 }) included  with the extension unit. 
Note:
We recommend installing the net work disk recorder in the middle of the rack  because if you install it at the top or bottom of the rack, the
ca ble may not  be long enough.

Turn on the po
wer of the extension units  before turning on the power
of the net work disk recorder. 
1Insert the power plu g to an outlet.
120  V AC, 60 Hz for NTSC model
220  V - 240  V AC, 50 Hz for PAL model
 Make sure the po wer source matches the po wer
re quirement of the model in use.
2Turn on the [POWER] switch  on the rear of the extension
unit.

The operational mode display sho ws the operational mode, the 
operation status in RAID mode, and the internal temperature 
(reference value). 
Refer to the net work disk recorder s Setup Instructions (PDF file) for
information a bout HDD initialization and disk configuration.

settings). 
1While holdin g down the [SET] button on the front panel,
turn on the [POWER] switch. Press the [SET] button until
[INIT. SETUP] is displayed on the screen. 
2Select [YES] with the arrow buttons (left or ri ght) and
then press the [SET] button. 
3Initializin g starts.
