41 RQT7708 The unit tunes automatically after you plug it in and turn it on for the first time (➜page 17, Plug-in Auto Tuning), but you can start the process again if necessary. ≥Make sure you have tuned to a television channel. This does not work if you have selected “AU” channel. 1While VHS MENU is displayed (➜page 40) Press [34] to select “CHANNEL SET” and press [ENTER]. 2Press [34] to select “ANTENNA SYSTEM” and press [ENTER]. 3Press [34] to select “TV” or “CATV” to suit the type of antenna you are using. 44 RQT7708 The radio Press [TUNER] to put the remote control in TUNER mode. Up to 15 stations can each be set in the FM and AM bands. 1Press [FM/AM] to select “FM”. 2Press [6] or [5] to tune to the lowest frequency (“FM 87.9” MHz or “FM 87.5” MHz). 3Press and hold [ENTER]. Release the button when “AUTO” is displayed. The tuner presets all the stations it can receive into the channels in ascending order. ≥“SET OK” is displayed when the stations are set. The last station to be set is then played. 4Repeat steps 1 to 3 to set the AM bands (the lowest frequency is “AM 520” kHz). 1Press [FM/AM] to select “FM” or “AM”. 2Press [6] or [5] to select the frequency. Press and hold [6] or [5] until the frequency starts scrolling to start automatic tuning. 49 RQT7708 Optional connections ≥The equipment connections described are examples. ≥Peripheral equipment and optional cables sold separately unless otherwise indicated. ≥Before connection, turn off all equipment and read the appropriate operating instructions. [A]You can record sound from discs, video cassette tapes, or radio, etc., to a tape deck. 1Discs Press [DVD/VHS] to select “DVD/CD” as the source. Video cassette tapes Press [DVD/VHS] to select “VHS” as the source. Radio Press [FM/AM] to select “FM” or “AM”. 2 Start recording and play. Refer to the manual of the other unit for details. [B]You can playback the sound from a tape deck/laser disc player, etc., through this unit’s speakers. 1 Press [VHS] to put the remote control in VHS mode. 2 Press [DVD/VHS] to select “VHS” as the source. 3Press [WCH] or [XCH] to select “AU” channel. 4 Start play. When connecting a record player We recommend using a record player with a built-in phono equalizer. If your player doesn’t have a built-in equalizer, connect it first to a separate equalizer and then to the unit. ≥You need to subscribe to a cable TV or satellite TV service, to enjoy viewing their programming. ≥Consult your service provider regarding appropriate cable TV box or satellite receiver. ≥Select the applicable input on your television to view the output from your cable TV box/satellite receiver through this unit. ≥The signal from the cable TV box or satellite receiver passes through this unit to the television even when this unit is turned off. ≥You cannot do a timer recording unless the channel is first selected on the cable TV box or satellite receiver. [Note] When a home satellite system (Dishnetwork/DSS) is connected, auto tuning and auto clock setting may not operate properly. Set the clock manually (➜page 40). ≥You can record and view simultaneously scrambled and unscrambled channels if connections are made as shown in the diagram below.
