9. Select the brand of cable box you have, and press “ENTER.”. 10. We’ll now begin trying various IR codes to see which one communicates properly with your cable box. It’s quite common that this phase of the setup may have to be repeated numerous times. Once your cable box properly responds to the DVD Recorder, select “Yes” using the UP/DOWN arrow keys and press “ENTER.” 11. The confirmation screen should now be displaying all of the setting made. These include your zip code, how you receive TV programming, and information about your cable box (if one is being used.) If all is correct, select “Yes” using the UP/DOWN arrow keys and press “Enter.” 6
12. Once at least 24 hours has passed since the setup information was entered, youre ready to perform the final step of the installation procedure. When the unit is powered \ up youll see a screen asking you to select the proper channel line-up. A channel line-up is the numerical designations for each station your cable company caries. In most cases youll have at least two choices, though its not uncommon for larger cities to offer several. Its important to realize that only one will be correct. Its helpful at this point to have a listing of the channels your cable company offers. Youll select the channel line-up by verifying that a particular network is on the specified channel. Select the proper line-up, press enter and begin to enjoy the TV Guide On Screen system! In Case of a Problem If you were unable to successfully configure the unit, Please contact our Call Center at 1-800- 211-PANA (7262). One of our representatives will be happy to assist you! Step 3: How The TV Guide On Screen System Operates Once you’ve connected and configured the unit, the TV Guide On Screen system now needs to capture the channel lineup and program data. This will only take place when the unit is placed into the “STANDBY” mode. While the unit is ON, Press the “Power” button to place the u\ nit in “STANDBY” mode. The front panel display will briefly display “Bye” and the time will be displayed. It’s VERY important, especially during the first 7 days of use, that the unit is placed into standby mode when you aren’t using it. If the unit is left “ON” continuously, the Channel Guide data cannot be captured. • Following the initial installation, it is strongly recommended that you wait at least 24 hours before using the unit. No damage will occur if the unit is used sooner, but the channel and program information may be incomplete. • In order for the TV Guide On Screen system to capture channel and program data your DVD Recorder must be connected to either cable TV or a rooftop antenna. If a cable box is used, make sure the IR blaster is properly installed and the cable box is turned on. Even when you aren’t watching TV the cable box must be turned on, otherwise program data will not be captured. • Some cable boxes may offer a switched AC plug so that your cable box remote control can also turn your TV on and off. Utilizing this feature (turning the cable box off) will prevent channel guide Data from being captured. 7
• The TV Guide On Screen system was designed such that all TV viewing would be done using your DVD Recorder to select the channels. When a cable box is used, and the DVD Recorder is placed in the standby mode, the DVD Recorder will cause the cable box to automatically scan channels to search for program data. In this situation, if the cable box were also connected directly to the TV, it would be impossible to view one channel continuously. • Program data in the TV Guide On Screen system may be incomplete due to the following: 1. The unit is unplugged and loss of power occurs. 2. If a cable box is used and the cable box was turned off or if a cable si\ gnal outage occurred. A loss of program data due to one of the above conditions would not indicate a technical problem with your unit. Once the power and signal is restored the unit will resume to capture program data when in the standby mode. - TV Guide On Screen System Operating Modes and Features • Once the initial setup for the TV Guide On Screen is complete and the necessary data is downloaded properly, the channel guide features will be ready for use.
