[ ASPECT RATIO]Setting the aspect ratio of
    pictures
By changing the aspect ratio, you can
select an angle of view that matches the
    subject.
hSelect to take pictures with the
same aspect ratio as a 4:3 TV or
    a computer monitor.
Select to take pictures with the
same 3:2 aspect ratio as 35 mm

    jThis is suitable for landscapes
etc. where a wide view is
    preferable.
This is also suitable for playing
    back pictures on a wide-screen
    TV, high-defi nition TV etc.
You cannot choose [] during motion

    [ INTELLIGENT ISO]Changing ISO sensitivity
    automatically
The camera detects the movement of the
subject and then sets the optimal ISO
sensitivity and shutter speed according to
the movement and the brightness of the
    subject.
The settings listed below indicates the
    selectable highest ISO sensitivity.
    OFF Intelligent ISO does not
    work.
ISO MAX400 [MAX] shows the maximum
    level of ISO sensitivity.
    The ISO sensitivity
    automatically increases up
to the set value. ISO MAX800

    [
] displays when you press the shutter
button halfway. If you press it fully, the
shutter speed and ISO sensitivity will be
    displayed.
Jitter is avoided when taking pictures
indoors of a moving subject by increasing
the ISO sensitivity and making the shutter
speed faster. (However, picture noise will
    increase.)
Noise is avoided when taking pictures
indoors of a subject with no movement by
    decreasing the ISO sensitivity.
Depending on the brightness and how
fast the subject is moving, jitter may not
    be avoided.
When the moving subject is small
When the moving subject is at the edge
    of the screen
When the subject starts moving the
instant the shutter button is pressed fully.
To avoid picture noise, we recommend
    setting [COLOR MODE] to [NATURAL].
The digital zoom cannot be used. •

    [ SENSITIVITY]Setting the light sensitivity
    ISO sensitivity represents the sensitivity
of the image sensor to light. If you set
the ISO sensitivity higher, the camera
becomes more suitable for recording in
    dark places.
When setting to [AUTO], the ISO
sensitivity is automatically adjusted to a
maximum of [ISO400] according to the
brightness. (When using the fl ash, the
    adjustment range becomes a maximum
    of [ISO1000].)

    Shutter speed Slow Fast
    Noise Less More
    The ISO sensitivity automatically changes
    between [ISO1600] and [ISO6400] in

To avoid picture noise we recommend
reducing the ISO sensitivity or setting

      Auto White Balance (AWB)
Use of auto white balance adjustment

[ AF MODE] / [ QUICK AF]Setting the focus method
    AF MODE
Select the mode that matches the
    recording conditions and the composition.
    5-area-focusing:
The camera focuses on any of 5
focus areas. This is effective when
the subject is not in the center of
    the screen.
    WH1-area-focusing (high speed):
    The camera quickly focuses on
the subject in the AF area on the
    center of the screen.
W1-area-focusing:The camera focuses on the subject
in AF area on the center of the
    screen.
    About 1-area-focusing (High speed)
You can focus on the subject more
    quickly than other AF modes.
Pictures may become still in the condition
they were in before the subject was
focused when you press the shutter
button halfway. However, it is not a
    malfunction. ■

    When using the
    digital zoom or when
    you take pictures in
    dark places, the AF
    area is displayed
    on the center of the
screen with a size wider than usual.
When multiple AF areas (max. 5 areas)
light at the same time, the camera is
focusing on all the AF areas. The focus
    position is not predetermined because
it is set to the position the camera
automatically determines at the time of
focusing. If you want to determine the
focus position to take pictures, switch the
AF mode to 1-area-focusing or 1-area-
    focusing (high speed) mode.
In 5-area focusing mode, AF areas are
not displayed until the camera focused
    on a subject.
AF mode is fi xed to 5-area focusing

    QUICK AF
When quick AF is set to [ON] focusing
will be faster when the shutter button
is pressed as the camera automatically
adjusts the focus when there is not much
    jittering.
Quick AF is fi xed to [ON] in Intelligent
