    the subject.
    Preparation
Set the mode dial to [ ]. (P29)
     Normal
     Macro mode [ ] ¬Suggestions/Tips ¬
In Macro mode, we recommend using a tripod.
When the camera lens is at a distance
beyond the available range from the
subject, the subject may not be
focused even if the focus indication
    lights.
In Macro mode, the captured range may differ from the visible range by the
optical finder. Use the LCD monitor to
    take pictures.
The available flash range is about 0.98 feet (30 cm) – 15.7 feet (4.8 m)
    (Wide), 1.64 feet (50 cm) – 9.19 feet

    Taking Pictures using Portrait Mode
This mode allows you to make a subject stand out from an unfocused background
and adjust the exposure and the hue.
    Preparation
Set the mode dial to [ ]. (P29)
    ªTechnique for Portrait mode
To make this mode more effective: 1 Rotate the zoom lever to Tele as far
    as possible.
2 Be close to the subject.
3 Select a background which is far
    from the camera. ¬Suggestions/Tips ¬
This mode is suitable for outdoors in the daytime.
[AUTO] setting in white balance works best when recording outdoors in the
daytime. When using indoors, the hue
    may change.
You can change the white balance setting. (P60)
When you want to change the exposure or the hue, compensate the
exposure (P43) or adjust the picture
    quality (P72).

Taking Pictures using Night Portrait Mode
Night portrait mode allows you to take pictures against a nighttime landscape. By
using the flash and a slow shutter speed, the picture will show the subject and the
background brighter than they appear in real life.
    Preparation
Set the mode dial to [ ]. (P29)
ª Shutter speed in Night portrait
    mode
ª Technique for Night portrait mode
We recommend using a tripod since the shutter speed becomes slow in a
dark setting (max. about 1 second).
Keep the subject still for about
1 second after taking a picture.
The subject should be positioned within the available flash range as
    follows:
     [1.64 feet (50 cm) – 15.7 feet (4.8 m)
    (Wide), 1.64 feet (50 cm) – 9.19 feet
    (2.8 m) (Tele)].
    (When setting to [ISO400]/[AUTO])
     We recommend rotating the zoom
    lever to Wide.
     The focus range is about 3.28 feet (1 m) – 9.84 feet (3 m). ª
    When taking picture of a
    landscape at night
When flash is set to Forced OFF [ ], you can capture the night
    illumination scenery itself with slower
shutter speed. (Max: about 8 seconds)
     The focus range is about 9.84 feet (3 m) – ¶.
    ¬Suggestions/Tips ¬
Flash setting is fixed to Slow sync./ Red-eye reduction [ ].
The shutter may be kept closed (max. about 8 seconds) after taking a
picture with slow shutter speed, but it
    is not a malfunction.
When the flash is set to Forced OFF [ ] in Night portrait mode and you
record the subject except the night
    illumination scenery, the hue may
change due to the [AUTO] setting in
    white balance.
You can change the white balance setting. (P60)
When you take pictures in dark places, noises may become visible.
    To avoid noises, we recommend
    setting [PICT.ADJ.] to [NATURAL].
    (P72)
When you record pictures in dark
places, it may be difficult to focus on
    the subject. We recommend recording
pictures in bright places with contrast
    using the AF/AE lock (P33).

    malfunction.
After recording starts, the auto focus/zoom/aperture values are fixed (with the first frame).
Recording could suddenly stop depending on the type of the card when recording motion images.
When the motion images recorded with this camera are played back on other

    be played back.
The motion images recorded with setting [MOTION RATE] to [30fps] cannot be
