Taking Pictures with Manual Focus
Applicable modes: 
Use this function when you want to fix the focus or when the distance between the lens and the 
subject is determined and you do not want to activate Auto Focus.
1Set the [Focus Mode] in the [Rec] menu to [MF]. (P64)
2Use the focus lever or focus ring on the lens to achieve focus.
•When [MF Assist] on the [Custom] menu is set to [ON] and you 
focus manually, the display will switch to the assist screen and the 
image will be enlarged....

∫Displaying the MF Assist
•This is displayed by moving the focus lever, rotating the focus ring, or touching the screen. (In the 
Creative Control Mode [Miniature Effect], MF Assistance cannot be displayed by touching the 
screen)
•It can also be displayed by pressing  2 to display the setup screen for the enlarged area, deciding 
the area to enlarge using the cursor button, and then pressing [MENU/SET].

1Focus by moving the focus lever or rotating the 
focus ring.
2 Move the lever or rotate the ring a little further 
in the same direction.
3 Fine tune the focus by moving the focus lever 
slightly in the opposite direction or rotating the 
focus ring slightly in the opposite direction.

If you zoom in/out after focusing on a subject, the focus may lose its accuracy. In that case, re-adjust 
the focus.

Fixing the Focus and the Exposure (AF/AE Lock)
Applicable modes: 
This is useful when you want to take a picture of a subject outside the AF area or the contrast is 
too strong and you cannot ac hieve appropriate exposure.
1Align the screen with the subject.
2Press and hold [AF/AE LOCK] to fix the focus or exposure.
•If you release [AF/AE LOCK], AF/AE Lock is canceled.
•Only the exposure is locked in the default setting.

Locking of the focus and exposure can be set in [AF/AE Lock] in the [Custom] menu.
Note
•
If you set [AF/AE Lock Hold] in the [Custom] menu to [ON], you can fix the focus and the exposure 
even if you release [AF/AE LOCK] after pressing it.  (P166)
•When AE lock is performed, the brightness of the recording screen that appears on the screen is 
fixed.

Adjusting the White Balance
Applicable modes: 
In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other such conditions where the color of white takes 
on a reddish or bluish tinge, this item adjusts to the color of white which is closest to what is 
seen by the eye in accordance with the light source.
1Press 1 ().
2Touch the White Balance.
•The item can be switched by touching [ ]/[ ].
3Touch [Set].
¢ It will operate as [AWB] during motion picture recording.

Note
•Under fluorescent lighting, LED lighting fixture etc., the appropriate White Balance will vary 
depending on the lighting type, so use [AWB] or [ ], [ ].
•The White Balance is only calculated for subjects within the range of the camera’s flash.
•The set White Balance is maintained even after this unit is turned off, but when the White Balance is 
changed in a different Scene Guide Mode, [White Balance] for the Scene Guide Mode that was set 
will return to [AWB].

Set the White Balance value. Use to match the condition when taking photographs.
1Select [ ], [ ] and then touch [White Set].
2Aim the camera at a sheet of white paper etc. so that the 
frame in the center is filled by the white object only and 
then touch [Set].

•
White Balance may not be set when the subject is too bright or too dark. Set the White Balance 
again after adjusting to appropriate brightness.

You can finely adjust the White Balance when you cannot acquire the desired hue by setting 
the White Balance.
1Select the White Balance and then touch [Adjust.].
2Drag within the frame to finely adjust.
•You can finely adjust also by touching [G _]/[M`]/[A]/[B], or 
pressing  3/4/2/1  of the cursor button.
•Select the center point if you are not finely adjusting the White Balance.

Bracket setting is performed based on the adjustment values for the White Balance fine 
adjustment, and 3 pictures with different colors  are automatically recorded when the shutter 
button is pressed once.
1Finely adjust the White Balance in step 2 of the “Finely 
adjusting the White Balance” procedure, and touch [ ]/
[ ] to set the bracket.
