53EN Frequently-used options and customization 3 Choosing how the camera measures brightness (metering) Choose how the camera meters subject brightness. 1 Display the live control and select the metering item using FG. 2 Select an option with HI and press Q.S-AFS-AF P ISOAUTOISOISOISOAUTOAUTOAUTORR S-AFS-AF ESPHIHISHSH OFFOFF pDigital ESP metering The camera meters exposure in 324 areas of the frame and optimizes exposure for the current scene or (if an option other than [OFF] is selected for [I Face Priority]) portrait subject. This mode is recommended for general use. H Center weighted averaging metering This metering mode provides the average metering between the subject and the background lighting, placing more weight on the subject at the center. I Spot metering Choose this option to meter a small area (about 2% of the frame) with the camera pointed at the object you wish to meter. Exposure will be adjusted according to the brightness at the metered point. IHI Spot metering - highlight Increases spot metering exposure. Ensures bright subjects appear bright. ISH Spot metering - shadow Lowers spot metering exposure. Ensures dark subjects appear dark. 3 Press the shutter button halfway. • Normally, the camera will start metering when the shutter button is pressed half\ way and lock exposure while the shutter button is held in this position.
54EN Frequently-used options and customization 3 Choosing a focus mode (AF mode) Select a focusing method (focus mode). You can choose separate focusing methods for still photography mode and n mode. 1 Display the live control and select the AF mode item using FG. 2 Select an option with HI and press Q. • The selected AF mode is displayed on the monitor. S-AFS-AF S-AF S-AF P S-AFS-AF S-AF S-AFC-AFC-AFMFMF ISOAUTOISOISOISOAUTOAUTOAUTORRS-AFS-AFMFC-AFC-AFTRSingle AF S-AF (single AF) The camera focuses once when the shutter button is pressed halfway. When the focus is locked, a beep sounds, and the AF confi rmation mark and the AF target mark light up. This mode is suitable for taking pictures of still subjects or subjects with limited movement. C-AF (continuous AF) The camera repeats focusing while the shutter button remains pressed halfway. When the subject is in focus, the AF confi rmation mark lights up on the monitor and the beep sounds when the focus is locked at the fi rst and second time. Even if the subject moves or you change the composition of the picture, the camera continues trying to focus. • Four Thirds system lenses focus using [S-AF]. MF (manual focus) This function allows you to manually focus on any subject. Near ) Focus ring S-AF+MF (simultaneous use of S-AF mode and MF mode) After pressing the shutter button halfway to focus in [S-AF] mode, you can turn the focus ring to fi ne-adjust focus manually. C-AF+TR (AF tracking) Press the shutter button halfway to focus; the camera then tracks and maintains focus on the current subject while the shutter button is held in this position. • The AF target is displayed in red if the camera can no longer track the subject. Release the shutter button and then frame the subject again and press the shutter button halfway. • Four Thirds system lenses focus using [S-AF]. # Cautions • The camera may be unable to focus if the subject is poorly lit, obscured\ by mist or smoke, or lacks contrast.
55EN Frequently-used options and customization 3 ISO sensitivity Increasing ISO sensitivity increases noise (graininess) but allows pho\ tographs to be taken when lighting is poor. The setting recommended in most situations is [AUTO], which starts at ISO 200 — a value that balances noise and dynamic ran\ ge — and then adjusts ISO sensitivity according to shooting conditions. 1 Display the live control and select the ISO sensitivity item using FG. 2 Select an option using HI and press Q. AUTOThe sensitivity is set automatically according to the shooting conditions. 200 – 25600 Sensitivity is set to the selected value. 60EN Frequently-used options and customization 3 hi-aJ K Contrast Distinction between light and dark Sharpness Sharpness of the image Saturation Vividness of the color k Gradation Adjust tone (gradation). Auto Divides the image into detailed regions and adjusts the brightness separately for each region. This is effective for images with areas of large contrast in which the whites appear too bright or the blacks appear too dark. Normal Use [Normal] mode for general uses. High Key Gradation for a bright subject. Low Key Gradation for a dark subject. Effect (i-Enhance) Sets the extent that the effect will be applied. kk B&W Filter (Monotone) Creates a black and white image. The fi lter color is brightened and the complementary color is darkened. kk N:Neutral Creates a normal black and white image. Ye:Yellow Reproduces clearly de fi ned white cloud with natural blue sky. Or:Orange Slightly emphasizes colors in blue skies and sunsets. R:Red Strongly emphasizes colors in blue skies and brightness of crimson foliage. G:Green Strongly emphasizes colors in red lips and green leaves. Pict. Tone (Monotone) Colors the black and white image. kk N:Neutral Creates a normal black and white image. S:Sepia Sepia B:Blue Bluish P:Purple Purplish G:Green Greenish # Cautions • Changes to contrast have no effect at settings other than [Normal].
