C8800 User’s Guide231 CMYK ink simulations – CMYK source data The ICC-based color matching system can be used to simulate the output on commercial printing presses. You can select from the ink ty pes most commonly used in different regions of the world: •Euroscale – Europe • SWOP – North America • To y o – J a p a n graphicpro-RGBmatch. 1.CMYK Data 2. CMYK Input Profile 3. Printer output profile 4. Printed document 5. CMYK device you wish to simulate (e.g. SWOP press) 6. Leave on Auto or select your custom profile To print CMYK Ink Simulations, you must use PostScript printer driver supplied. Although it is possible to perf orm CMYK ink simulations using the Office Color options in th e printer driver, we recommend that you use the Graphic Pro color matching system to perform CMYK ink simulations, as this provides additional controls, such as using the “Pre serve Black” feature, or specifying an alternative printer output profile. If you are using a source CMYK document, use the following printer driver settings to perf orm a CMYK Ink Simulation: 1. On the printer driver [Color] tab, select [Graphic Pro] and click [Options]. 2. Select [ICC Profile color Matching]. 3. Select the [CMYK Input profile] that corresponds to the device you are trying to match such as a SWOP or Euroscale Press. If you have another CMYK Ink profile that you wish to use, select it here as the appropriate “CMYK Source x” profile. Remember that the names “CMYK Source 1”, “CMYK Source 2” and so on relate to the number assigned to the profile using Profile Assistant. See “Using Profile Assistant” on page 222. Use the [Preserve Black] option to keep the original gray component (K channel) informat i o n . I f [ P r e s e r v e B l a c k ] i s disabled, the gray componen ts may be printed using a mixture of CMYK toner, instea d of just K (black) toner. 4. Select a Printer Output Profile. If [Auto] is selected, the factory default profiles that are embedded in the printer will be used. If you have created a printer profile yourself using profile creation software, select it here. C8800 User’s Guide235 No Color Matching Use this option to turn off all printer color matching. No color correction occurs when selected. Use No Color Matching when you are using another color matching method in your application (such Color Simulation). Printer driver settings for ICC profile creation or no color matching If you are creating ICC profiles using third-party software, select [Disable color Matching for ICC Profile Creation]. This option switches off all printer color management and also prevents the printer from rest ricting toner layer thickness. If you are using your application color matching, select [Use Application color Matching]. This option switches off all printer color management. (Mac OS 9 page 235, Mac OS X page 236 .) C8800 User’s Guide237 Grayscale This option prints all documents as monochrome. No color prints. The printer interprets all colo rs as a variation of grays. Windows Individual Print Jobs 1.Open the file you want to print. 2. Click File → Print. 3. Click on the Color tab. 4. At Grayscale, make your selection. If the box has a check mark, the feature is ON. If the box is empty, the feature is OFF. 5. Change any other settings as desired. 6. Click Print. 7. The document prints. All Print Jobs (Default) 1.Click Start → Settings → Printers [Printers and Faxes in Windows XP]. 2. Right-click the printer name. 3. Next Windows 98/Me: select Properties. Click Printer Properties. Open the drop-down list below Presets. Select Color Synch. 3. At Color Conversion, select Standard. 4. At Quartz Filter, make your selection. Choices are: None, Black & White, Blue Tone, Gray Tone, Lightness Decrease, Lightness Increase , Reduce File Size, Sepia Tone, and Add Filters. The following section has examples and explanations of each filter. NOTE: To see the affect of any of these filters on your document, select Add Filters. Click the filter in the list. Click Apply.
