Date and time of recording can be imprinted on pictures for printing this 
information from printers that are not DPOF-compatible (c135).

Date Counter
Pictures taken while this option is in effect are imprinted with the number of 
days remaining until, or the number of days elapsed since a specified date. 
Use it to track the growth of a child or count down the days until a birthday 
or wedding.

b Vibration Reduction
Vibration reduction effectively corrects blur, caused by slight hand 
movement known as camera shake, that commonly occurs when shooting 
with zoom applied or at slow shutter speeds. Vibration reduction can be 
used in all shooting modes. 
When [Off] is selected, an icon for the current setting is not displayed in the 
monitor (c6).

h Sound Settings
Adjust the following sound settings.
I Record Orientation
Choose whether or not to record the orientation of pictures taken in “tall” 
orientation.
Choose [Auto] (default setting) to record the picture’s orientation detected 
by the camera’s sensor. The taken picture will be automatically rotated in 
playback mode. When [Off] is selected, the picture will be displayed in the 
same orientation as it was taken....

M Format Memory/O Format Card
Use this option to format the internal memory or a memory card.
Formatting the Internal Memory
To format the internal memory, remove the 
memory card from the camera.
The [Format memory] option appears in the setup 
menu.
Formatting a Memory Card
When the memory card is inserted in the camera, 
the [Format card] option appears in the setup 
menu.

• Choosing [Reset all] also clears the current file number (c118) from the memory. 
Numbering will continue from the lowest number available. To reset file numbering to 
“0001”, delete all pictures (c99) before selecting [Reset all].
• Settings for [Date] (c105), [Date counter] (c110), [Language] (c114), and [Video 
mode] (c114) in the setup menu will remain unaffected even if [Reset all] is performed.

Image/Sound File and Folder Names
Pictures, movies, voice memos, and voice recordings are assigned file names 
as follows.
• Files are stored in folders named with a folder number followed by a five-
character identifier: “P_” plus a three-digit sequence number for pictures 
taken using panorama assist (e.g., “101P_001”; c40), “SOUND” 
(normal quality sound) or “SOUNE” (high quality sound) for voice 
recordings (e.g., “101SOUND”; c67), and “NIKON” for all other pictures
