47 More on Playback Editing Pictures Use the COOLPIX S200 to edit pictures in-camera and store them as separate files (c115). The editing features described below are available. kPicture Editing • Pictures taken at an image mode setting of [16:9] (c84) cannot be edited except Elec- tronic VR. • The COOLPIX S200 editing functions may not be available for pictures taken with non- COOLPIX S200 digital cameras. • If a copy created using the COOLPIX S200 is viewed on a different digital camera, the pic- ture may not be displayed or may not be transferred to a computer. • Editing functions are not available when there is not enough free space in the internal memory or on the memory card. kRestrictions on Picture Editing(y : available, –: not available) • Pictures cannot be edited twice with the same editing function. • The D-Lighting or Electronic VR should be done first while the restricted use of combination exists. lOriginal Pictures and Edited • Copies created with editing functions are not deleted if the original pictures are deleted. The original pictures are not deleted if copi es created with editing functions are deleted. • Edited copies are stored with the same recording date and time as the original. • Edited copies have the same transfer marking (c98) as the original but are not marked for printing ( c81) or protecting ( c98). 48 Editing Pictures More on Playback Enhancing Brightness and Contrast: D-Lighting D-Lighting can be used to create copies with enhanced brightness and con- trast, brightening dark portions of a pi cture. Enhanced copies are stored as separate files. 1Select the desired picture from full- frame ( c26), or thumbnail ( c45) play- back and press m. The playback menu is displayed. 2Highlight [D-Lighting] and press d. The results of D-Lighting enhancement can be con- firmed in the monitor. 3Use the multi selector to choose [OK] and press d. A new copy with enhanced brightness and contrast is created. To cancel D-Lighting, choose [Cancel] and press d. D-Lighting copies can be recognized by the z icon displayed during playback. 49 Editing Pictures More on Playback Compensating Blurred Images: Electronic VR Vibration reduction is used to create a new image by compensating the blurred image. Created copies are stored as separated files. 1Choose the desired image in full-frame playback (c26). 2Press d (F ) (electronic VR). 3Use the multi select or to choose [OK] and press d. Compensated image is created. To cancel vibration reduction, choose [Cancel] and press d. 50 Editing Pictures More on Playback Creating a Cropped Copy: Crop This function is only available when D is displayed in the monitor with playback zoom ( c46) enabled. Cropped copies are stored as separate files. 1Press v (k ) to zoom in on the image. 2Refine copy composition. Press v or t to adjust the zoom ratio. Press the multi selector up, down, left, or right to scroll the picture until only the portion you want to copy is visible in the monitor. 3Press m. The confirmation dialog will be displayed. 4Use the multi selector to choose [Yes] and press d. A new picture, containing only the portion visible in the monitor, is created. Depending on the size of the original picture a nd the zoom ratio in effect at the time the copy was created, the camera will automatically sele ct one of the following image-mode settings for cropped copies (unit: pixels). 51 Editing Pictures More on Playback H Resizing Pictures: Small Picture Create a small copy of the current pict ure. Small copies are stored as JPEG files with a compression ratio of 1:16. The following sizes are available. 1Select the desired picture from full- frame ( c26), or thumbnail ( c45) play- back mode and press m. The playback menu is displayed. 2Use the multi selector to choose [Small pic.] and press d. 3Choose the desired copy size and press d. A confirmation dialog will be displayed. 52 More on Playback Voice Memos: Recording and Playback Use the camera’s built-in microphone to record voice memos to pictures . Recording Voice Memos 1Select the desired picture from full-frame (c26), or thumbnail ( c 45) playback mode and press m. The playback menu is displayed. 2Use the multi selec- tor to choose [Voice memo] and press d. Display shows voice record- ing guides. 3Press d. A voice memo, up to 20 seconds in length, will be recorded while d is pressed down. Recording ends after about 20 seconds or when d is released. During recording, F and P blink in the monitor display. Pictures for which voice memo exists are marked by P (voice memo playback guide). 53 Voice Memos: Recording and Playback More on Playback Playing Voice Memos 1Select the desired picture from full-frame (c26), or thumbnail ( c 45) playback mode and press m. Pictures with voice memos can be recog- nized by the P icons. The playback menu is displayed. 2Use the multi selec- tor to choose [Voice memo] and press d. Display shows voice play- back guides. 3Press d. Play voice memo. Playback ends when the voice memo ends or d is pressed again. Use the zoom buttons to adjust playback volume. Press t to lower volume, or v to raise volume. Press m button to return to playback mode. Deleting Voice Memos To delete the voice memo for the current picture, press the T button. 54 More on Playback Viewing Pictures by Date In calendar mode or list by date mode, pictures taken on a specified date can be displayed. When m is pressed, the calendar menu or the list by date menu is displayed, and all pictures taken on a specified date can be selected for deletion, printing, protection, and transfer. Selecting a Date in Calendar Mode 1Enter calendar mode by pressing C in playback mode, select- ing J (use the multi selector), and then pressing d. 2Choose the desired date and press d. Dates for which pictures exist are underlined in yel- low. Press t to view previous month, press v to view fol- lowing month. The first picture for that date will be displayed full- frame. Dates for which pictures exist will be listed. 2Choose the desired date and press d. Camera lists up to 29 dates. If pictures exist for more than 29 dates, all pictures recorded earlier than most recent 29 dates will be listed together as [Others]. The first picture for that date will be displayed full- frame.
