57 Connecting the Camera to a TV, Printer, or Co mputer Connecting the Camera to a TV, Printer, or Computer You can enhance your enjoyment of images and movies by connecting the camera to a TV, printer, or computer. • Before connecting the camera to an external device, make sure the remaining battery level is sufficient and turn the camera off. Before disconnecting, make sure to turn the camera off. • If the AC Adapter EH-62F (available separately) is used, this camera can be powered from an electrical outlet. Do not use any other make or model of AC adapter as it may cause the camera to heat up or malfunction. • For information about the connection methods and subsequent operations, refer to the documentation included with the device in addition to this document. Connection method: Connect a commercially available HDMI cable to the TV’s HDMI input jack. Printing i mages without using a co mputerE 54 If you connect the camera to a PictBridge-compatible printer, you can print images without using a computer. Connection method: Connect the camera directly to the printer’s USB port with the USB cable. Viewing and organizing i mages on a co mputerE 58 You can transfer images to a computer to perform simple retouching and manage image data. Connection method: Connect th e camera to the computer’s USB port with the USB cable. • Before connecting to a comput er, install ViewNX 2 on the computer (E 58). • If any USB devices th at draw the power from the computer are connected, disconnect them from the computer before you connect the camera to it. Connecting the camera and other USB-powered devices to the same computer simultaneously may cause a camera malfunction or excessive power supply from the computer, which could damage the camera or memory card.

Reference Section E3 •When you point the camera at the subject, the camera automatically recognizes the optimum scene mode from the list below and adjusts the shooting settings accordingly. • The focus area depends on the composition of the image. When the camera detects a human face, it focuses on that face ( E16). • Depending on shooting conditions, the camera may not select the desired scene mode. In this case, select another shooting mode ( A20). Reference Section E4 •While the shutter-release button is held a ll the way down, the camera shoots up to about 5 images continuously at a rate of about 7 fps (when image quality is set to Normal and when image size is set to i 4608×3456 ). • The frame rate for continuous shootin g may become slow depending on the current image quality setting, image size setting, the memory card used, or shooting condition. • Focus, exposure, and hue are fixed at the values determined with the first image in each series. • On the screen displayed when e Night portrait is selected, select u Hand-held or w Tripod . • u Hand-held (default setting): -While the e icon on the shooting screen is displayed in green, press the shutter-release button all the way to ca pture a series of images which are combined into a single image and saved. - Once the shutter-release butto n is pressed all the way, hold the camera still until a still image is displayed. After taking a pi cture, do not turn the camera off before the monitor switches to the shooting screen. - If the subject moves while the camera is shooting continuously, the image may be distorted, overlapped, or blurred. • w Tripod : - One image is captured at a slow shu tter speed when the shutter-release button is pressed all the way. - Vibration reduction is disabled regardless of the Photo VR setting in the setup menu ( A54). • To avoid the effects of camera shake, hold the camera steady. Reference Section E6 •The shutter speed is fixed at about four seconds. • The zoom is restricted to 10 fixed positions. • On the screen displayed when o Backlighting is selected, select On or Off of HDR (high dynamic range) composition based on the type of image you want to capture. • Off (default setting): The flash fires to prevent the subject from being hidden in shadow. - When the shutter-release button is pr essed all the way down, one image is captured. • On : Use when taking pictures with very bright and dark areas in the same frame. - When the shutter-release button is pr essed all the way, the camera shoots images continuously at high speed, and saves the following two images. - A non-HDR composite image - An HDR composite image in which the loss of details in highlights or shadows is minimized - If there is only enough memory to sa ve one image, an image processed by D- Lighting ( E27) at the time of shooting, in which dark areas of the image are corrected, is the only image saved. - Once the shutter-release butto n is pressed all the way, hold the camera still until a still image is displayed. Reference Section E7 •When you point the camera at a dog or cat, the camera detects the pet’s face and focuses on it. By default, the shutter is automatically released when the camera detects a dog or cat face (pet portrait auto release). • On the screen displayed when O Pet portrait is selected, select U Single or V Continuous . - U Single : Whenever the camera detects a dog or cat face, the camera captures 1 image. - V Continuous : Whenever the camera detects a dog or cat face, the camera captures 3 images continuously. BPet Portrait Auto Release • Press the multi selector J (n ) to change the Pet portrait auto release settings. - Y : When the camera detects a dog or cat face, the camera automatically releases the shutter. - k : The camera does not release the shutte r automatically, even if a dog or cat face is detected. Press the shutter-re lease button. The camera also detects human faces when k is selected. • Pet portrait auto release is set to k after 5 bursts have been taken. • Shooting is also possible by pressing the shutter-release button, regardless of the Pet portrait auto release setting. BFocus Area •When the camera detect s a face, the face is displayed inside a yellow border. When the camera acquires focus on a face displayed inside a double border (focus area), the double border changes to green.
