Get Started 11 AC1200 WiF Range Extender To use WPS to connect the extender to your WiFi router: 1. Press the WPS button on the extender. The WPS LED blinks. 2. Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your router or access point. The WPS LED on the extender lights solid green, the Router Link LED lights, and the extender connects to your existing WiFi network. If the Router Link LED does not light, try again. If it still does not l\ ight, see Connect With the NETGEAR Installation Assistant on page 12. 3. If your WiFi router supports the 5 GHz band, repeat Steps 1 and 2 to con\ nect the extender to the 5 GHz band. 4. Unplug the extender and move it to a new location that is about halfway \ between your router and the area with a poor router WiFi signal. The location that you choose must be within the range of your existing W\ iFi router network. DO DON’T 5. Plug the extender into an electrical outlet and wait for the Power LED to light green. 6. Use the Router Link LED to help you choose a spot where the extender-to-router connection is optimal. 7. If the Router Link LED doesn’t light amber or green, plug the extende\ r into an outlet closer to the router and try again. Keep moving the extender to outlets closer to the router until the Route\ r Link LED lights amber or green. 8. On your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device, open the WiFi connection\ manager and locate and connect to the new extender WiFi network. The extender creates two new extender WiFi networks. The extender’s new WiFi network names are based on your existing WiFi network name, with _2GEXT and _5GE\ XT at the ends of the names. For example: • Existing W iFi network name . MyNetworkName • New extender W iFi network names. MyNetworkName_2GEXT and MyNetworkName_5GEXT Use the same WiFi password that you use for your WiFi router.
Get Started 12 AC1200 WiF Range Extender 9. Test the new extended WiFi range by moving your WiFi-enabled computer or \ mobile device to the area with a poor router WiFi signal: a. Leave your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device in the area with a poo\ r router WiFi signal and return to the extender . b. Check the Client Link LED on the extender: • If the Client Link LED is solid green or amber , your extender WiFi network reaches the area with a poor router WiFi signal and your network setup is comple\ te. • If the Client Link LED is red, your new extender WiFi network does not r\ each the area with a poor router WiFi signal. You must move your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device closer to the extender until the Client Link LED turns solid green or amber . Connect With the NETGEAR Installation Assistant You can use a web browser to log in to the extender and set up its WiFi c\ onnection to your existing WiFi router. To connect using the NETGEAR installation assistant: 1. Connect your device to the extender using a wired Ethernet or WiFi conne\ ction: • T o connect with a wired Ethernet connection, use an Ethernet cable to con\ nect the Ethernet port on the extender to an Ethernet port on your computer. • T o connect with WiFi, on your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device, ope\ n the WiFi connection manager and locate and connect to the extender NETGEAR_EXT (\ SSID) WiFi network. After the connection with your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device is\ established, the Client Link LED lights. 2. Launch web browser . 3. Enter www .mywifiext.net in the address field of the browser. The New Extender Setup page displays. 4. Click the NEW EXTENDER SETUP button.
Get Started 13 AC1200 WiF Range Extender The first time that you log in to the extender, the Create Account page displays. If the Create Account page does not display, visit www.mywifiext.net. 5. Complete the fields on the Create Account page and click the NEXT button. 6. V erify that the Access Point/Extender switch is set to Extender and click the CONTINUE button. 7. Select a WiFi network to extend and click the NEXT button. If you do not want to extend both WiFi bands, clear the 2.4 GHz W iFi Networks or the 5 GHz WiFi Networks check box. 8. In the Password (Network Key) field, type the existing WiFi network password (also called passphrase or security key) and click the NEXT button. 9. Set the network name (SSID) and password for your new extender WiFi ne\ twork and click the NEXT button. Note: We recommend that you use a network name (SSID) for your extender that is different from the SSID that your router uses. Wait for the page to display a list of new extender WiFi networks, which \ might take up to one minute. 10. Connect your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device to the new extender \ WiFi network using the extender SSID and password that you created in Step 9. 11. Make sure that your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device is successful\ ly connected before you click the CONTINUE button. 12. Click the CONTINUE button. A message displays confirming that the extender is connected to the new \ extender WiFi network. 13. Click the NEXT button. The registration page displays. 14. Complete the registration fields and click the FINISH button to complete the setup.

Note that you must register your extender before you can use NETGEAR telephone sup\ port. The Status page displays. 15. Unplug the extender and move it to a new location about halfway between \ your router and the area with a poor WiFi signal. Leave your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device in the area with a poo\ r router WiFi signal and return to the extender . b. Check the Client Link LED on the extender: • If the Client Link LED is solid green or amber , your new extender WiFi network reaches the area with a poor router WiFi signal and your network setup i\ s complete. • If the Client Link LED is red, your new extender WiFi network does not r\ each the area with a poor router WiFi signal. You must move your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device closer to the extender until the Client Link LED turns solid green or amber .
Get Started 15 AC1200 WiF Range Extender Connect an Ethernet-Enabled Device After the extender is connected to your existing WiFi network, you can c\ onnect a wired device to the extender using an Ethernet cable. The device can then access your existing network through the extender’s WiFi connection. Figure 4. Connect a device to the Ethernet LAN port Use the Extender in Access Point Mode You can use the extender as a WiFi access point, which creates a new WiFi\ hotspot by using a wired Ethernet connection. Figure 5. Extender in access point mode To use the extender in access point mode: 1. Set the Access Point/Extender switch to Access Point . 2. Plug the extender into an electrical outlet and wait for the Power LED to light green. If the Power LED does not light, press the Power On/Off button on the side of the extender . 3. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the Ethernet port on the extender to a \ router Ethernet LAN port or a remote Ethernet LAN jack with LAN access. The extender joins the LAN and creates a WiFi hotspot.

On your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device, open the WiFi connection\ manager and locate and connect to one of the following WiFi extender networks: • 2.4 GHz network. NETGEAR_EXT • 5 GHz network. NETGEAR_5GEXT When you join the network, the extender Client Link LED lights to show that you are connected. 5. Launch a web browser and enter www .mywifiext.net in the address field. The New Extender Setup page displays. 6. Click the NEW EXTENDER SETUP button. If the Create Account page does not display, visit www.mywifiext.net. 7. Complete the fields on the Create Account page and click the NEXT button. 8. When prompted, set the network name (SSID), security option, and passw\ ord for each access point network and click the NEXT button. Your settings are applied and the extender is ready to be used as an acce\ ss point. 9. Connect your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device to the new access po\ int WiFi network using the SSID and password that you created in Step 8. 10. Click the CONTINUE button. A page displays that says you successfully created an access point. 11. Click the NEXT button. The registration page displays. 12. Follow the onscreen instructions to register your extender .
Get Started 17 AC1200 WiF Range Extender Access Extender Settings After installation, you can log in to the extender to view or change the\ extender’s settings. To log in to the extender: 1. On your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device, open the WiFi connection\ manager and locate and connect to a new extender WiFi network. After the connection with the WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device is \ established, the Client Link LED lights. 2. Launch a web browser . 3. Enter www .mywifiext.net in the address field of the browser. A login page displays. 4. Enter your email address and password and click the LOG IN button. The Status page displays. Run Smart Setup You can use Smart Setup to change the extender settings. This is an easy way to connect the extender to a different router or to change the extender WiFi network name (SSID) or Wi\ Fi password. To run Smart Setup: 1. On your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device, open the WiFi connection\ manager and locate and connect to a new extender WiFi network. After the connection with the WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device is \ established, the Client Link LED lights. 2. Launch a web browser . 3. Enter www .mywifiext.net in the address field of the browser. A login page displays. 4. Enter your email address and password and click the LOG IN button. The Status page displays. 5. Click the SMART SETUP button. The Welcome page displays. 6. Click the WIFI RANGE EXTENDER button. The extender scans for WiFi signals and finds the WiFi networks in your \ area and displays a list. 7. Select your WiFi network and click the NEXT button.

A message displays when the extender connects to your existing router’s WiFi network. 9. Click the NEXT button. The extender applies your settings to its WiFi network names and WiFi passwords. During this change, the extender disconnects you from its WiFi network. 10. When prompted, connect your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device to the extender WiFi network and click the CONTINUE button. The registration page displays. 11. Complete the registration fields and click the FINISH button to complete the setup. If you do not want to register your extender, click the Skip Registration link. Enter www .mywifiext.net in the address field of the browser. A login window opens. 4. Enter your user name and password. The Status page displays. 5. Select Settings > Connected Devices . Boost Your Video Streaming With FastLane Technology Get the most out of your HD entertainment with FastLane technology. With FastLane technology, the extender connects to your router using one band and connects to yo\ ur WiFi-enabled devices using another band. Because a band is dedicated to \ each function, performance is enhanced. If all your WiFi-enabled devices and your WiFi router support only the 2\ .4 GHz band, or all your WiFi-enabled devices and your WiFi router support only the 5 GHz ba\ nd, do not enable FastLane T echnology.
