Entering Words
In a text entry screen, you can press # to switch entry 
methods. An indicator tells you which method is active 
(see page 30). If 
iTAP method is not available as the Primary 
or 
Secondary entry method, see page 37.
If you enter a word your phone does not recognize, the 
phone stores it to use as 1 of your word options. When you 
fill memory space for unrecognized words, your phone 
deletes the oldest words to add new words.

Smart Key
The smart key gives you 
another way to perform 
many basic phone 
functions. It anticipates the next action you are likely to 
perform. For example, when you highlight a menu item, 
you can press the smart key to select it. You can use 
the smart key to make and end calls, turn features on

during a call. A loud alert confirms activation/deactivation.
When you turn the handsfree speaker on, your phone

Locking and Unlocking Your 
Phone
You can lock your phone manually or set the phone to lock 
automatically whenever you turn it off.
To use a locked phone, you must enter the unlock code. A 
locked phone still rings or vibrates for incoming calls or 
messages, 
but you must unlock it to answer.
You can make emergency calls on your phone even 
when it is locked (see page 59).
