RAW Mode RAW (Read After Write) mode sets the operation of the MONITOR switch. RAW is an electronic Read After Write. In all modes except 24 bit recording, the PMD671 can read a recording on the CF Card while simulta- neously recording onto the CF Card. When RAW Mode is at Monitor and if the MONI- TOR switch is at FILE when recording begins, the monitoring signal sent to the PHONES jack and LINE OUT jacks is read from the CF card a maximum of 2 seconds after it is recorded. Thus, the monitored signal is not the source but is the recording. When RAW Mode is at TimeShft and if the MONI- TOR switch is at FILE when recording begins, the monitoring signal sent to the PHONES jack and LINE OUT jacks is the same as the source until a playback button is activated. (PLAY/PAUSE, TRACK JUMP, F.FWD or F.REV) The recording before the playback button was activated, and previously recorded tracks, can then be moni- tored and reviewed using normal playback con- trols while recording continues.6. Timed tracks are helpful when recording long sessions such as meetings, speeches, surveil- lance sessions, or recordings for transcription. During playback, timed tracks make finding a particular passage easy because of the relation- ship between track numbers and time. Auto Track Incrementing can be On or Off. If On, the time interval can be set to: 1, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes; or 1, 2, 6, 8, 12 or 24 hours. For example, if Minute Track is recorded (a new track every minute) you can select track 3 to play approximately the 3rd minute of recording. Silent Skip looks for sound below a preset level for a preset period of time. When that occurs, the PMD671 switches to record pause. When a signal exceeding the dB level you set is input, recording resumes. If set to TR, a new track is started when recording resumes. You can set the preset time for 01, 02, 03, 04 or 05 seconds. You can set the decibel level (dB) to- 20, -25, -30, -35, -40, -45, -50, -55 or -60 dB. For example, if you are both the recorder and master of ceremonies for an event, you can preset the PMD671 for recording and automati- cally start recording when you start speaking into the microphone. When the Auto Mark feature is at On, resumption of recording after a record pause by Silent Skip adds an EDL mark. The S.SKIP icon appears in the display while Silent Skip is On.
