ADSL Gateway with Modem / Router / 4-Port Switch / Wireless-ReadyAppendix C: Installing the TCP/ I P ProtocolFollow these instructions to install the TCP/IP protocol on one of your PCs only after a network card has been successfully installed inside the PC. These instructions are for Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me. For TCP/IP setup under Windows NT, 2000, and XP, see your Windows manual. 1. Click the Startbutton. Choose Settingsand then Control Panel. 2. Double-click on the Networkicon to bring up your Network window. Select the Configurationtab. 3. Click the Add button. 4. Double-click on Protocol. 5. Highlight Microsoftunder the list of manufacturers. 73 Instant Broadband ™Series 72 Figure C-1 8. The “Wireless Network Properties” window will appear. Click the check box for the Data encryption (WEP enabled)option. Remove the check from the Network Authentication (Shared mode)and The key is provided for me automaticallyf ields. In the Network key f ield, enter the exact Key (all 10 or 26 digits, depend- ing on the level of encryption) generated by the Gateway. Verify that the “Key format” f ield displays “Hexadecimal digits” and that the “Key length” f ield displays either “40 bits (10 digits)” or “104 bits (26 digits)”. If this is not displayed, you have entered the key incorrectly. Click the OKbutton to save the settings. Click on OKbuttons until you get back to the “Wireless Network Connection Status” window. Close any open windows to get back to the Windows XP desktop. Close any applications and reboot your PC. After reboot, WEP conf iguration is complete and you should be able to connect wirelessly to the Gateway. Figure B-11
ADSL Gateway with Modem / Router / 4-Port Switch / Wireless-ReadyAppendix D: Finding the MAC Address and IPAddress for Your Ethernet AdapterThis section describes how to f ind the MAC address for your Ethernet adapter to do either MAC Filtering for the Gateway and ISP. You can also f ind the IP address of your computer’s Ethernet adapter. The IP address is used for f ilter- ing. Follow the steps in this appendix to f ind the MAC address or IP address for your adapter in Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP. For Windows 95, 98, and Me: 1. Click on Startand Run. In the Open f ield, enter winipcfg. Then press the Enter key or the OKbutton. 2. When the IP Conf iguration window appears, select the Ethernet adapter you are using to connect to the Gateway via a CAT 5 Ethernet cable. 75 Instant Broadband ™Series 6. Find and double-click TCP/IP in the list to the right (see Figure C-2). 7. After a few seconds, the main Network window will appear. The TCP/IP Protocol should now be listed. 8. Click the OKbutton. Windows may ask for original Windows installation f iles. Supply them as needed, e.g., c:\windows\options\cabs, D:\win98, D:\win95. 9. Windows will ask you to restart the PC. Click the Ye sbutton. Write down the Physical Address as shown on your computer screen; it is the MAC address for your Ethernet adapter. This will appear as a series of letters and numbers. The MAC address/Physical Address is what you will use for MAC Filtering. The example in Figure D-5 shows the IP address of your Ethernet adapter as 192.168.1.100. This is the MAC address for your Ethernet adapter and will be shown as a series of numbers and letters. The MAC address/Adapter Address is what you will use for MAC Filtering.
