Clearing staple jams 123 Clearing jams Clearing staple jams 289 Jam A 289 jam number indicates staples are jammed in the stapler. This requires removing the staple cartridge holder from the MFP. 1Check that the machine stops operations, and open Door G (front door) of the finisher. 2Hold the lever on the staple cartridge holder, and move the holder to the right (towards you). 3Firmly pull the colored tab to remove the staple cartridge. Clearing staple jams 124 Clearing jams 4Use the metal tab to lift the staple guard, and then pull out the sheet of staples. Discard the entire sheet. 5Remove any loose staples from the staple guard. 6Look through the clear covering on the bottom of the cartridge holder to make sure no staples are jammed in the entry throat. 7Press down on the staple guard until it snaps securely into place. 8Push the cartridge holder firmly into the stapler until the holder clicks into place. 9Close Door G. Clearing ADF Jams 126 Clearing jams 7Open the document cover, and remove any jammed pages. 8Close the document cover. 9Touch Continue. 293 Jam A 293 jam indicates the MFP was sent a scan job, but found no original document in the ADF. To resolve a 293 Jam: Touch Continue if no scan job is active when the attendance message appears. This clears the message. Touch Cancel Job if a scan job is processing when the attendance message appears. This cancels the job and clears the message. Touch Scan from Automatic Document Feeder if the page jam recovery is active. Scanning resumes from the ADF immediately after the last successfully scanned page. Touch Scan from flatbed if page jam recovery is active. Scanning resumes from the flatbed immediately after the last successfully scanned page. Touch Finish job without further scanning if page jam recovery is active. The job ends at the last successfully scanned page, but the job is not canceled. Successfully scanned pages go to their destination: copy, fax, e-mail, or FTP. Touch Restart job if job recovery is active and the job is restartable. The message clears. Adjusting screen timeout To a d j u s t t h e Screen Timeout setting: 1Make sure the MFP is on. 2Touch the Menus button on the home screen. 3Touch Settings. 4Touch General Settings. 5Touch the down arrow until Screen Timeout appears. 6Touch the left arrow to decrease the time, or touch the right arrow to increase the time. The settings available range from 15–300 minutes. Adjusting Power Saver To a d j u s t t h e Power Saver setting: 1Make sure the MFP is on. 2Touch the Menus button on the home screen. 3Touch Settings. 4Touch General Settings. 5Touch the down arrow until Power Saver appears. 6Touch the left arrow to decrease the time, or touch the right arrow to increase the time. The settings available range from 2–240 minutes. Configuring the MFP A variety of functions can be used to increase the level of Information Technology (IT) security for the device. The following sections show how to configure these functions. Setting Password Protect for the menus Apply an administrative password to restrict unauthorized users from making changes to the MFP configuration from either the control panel or the Embedded Web Server (EWS). 1Touch the Menus button on the home screen. 2Touch Settings. 3Touch the down arrow and then touch Security. 4Touch the down arrow and then touch Create/Change PasswordsÆ Create/Change Advanced Password. 5Enter and reenter a password of both alphabetic and non-alphabetic characters. Note:Settings Æ SecurityÆ Password Protect and SettingsÆ SecurityÆ Create/Change Passwords Æ Create Change User Password can be used to restrict access with a different password than the Advanced Password. Use Settings Æ Secur ityÆ Password Protect to select the menus that are accessible with both an Advanced Password and a User Password. Note:The Advanced Password and the User Password protect the menus on the touch screen control panel of the MFP and the Configuration section of the EWS pages. Restricting Function Access The MFP supports a variety of methods for authenticating users prior to allowing access to functions. 1Open a Web browser. In the address line, enter the IP address of the MFP being configured using this format: http://ip_address/. 2Click Configuration. 3Under Other Settings, click Security. gSelect an authentication method. hClick Submit. 4Click on the setup link for the authentication method previously selected in step g. aFill out the appropriate information for the environment. bClick Submit. 5Click Function Access. aSet the function authentication level for each function. Select Off to prevent anyone from using a function. bClick Submit. Note:FTP must be enabled from the function access menu before it can be used. Preventing access to the menus from the control panel It is possible to prevent access to all the menus using the control panel touch screen. Configuring the MFP 129 Administrative support Setting the Device Lockout personal identification number (PIN) The Device Lockout PIN allows locking and unlocking the functional state of the MFP. A locked MFP automatically buffers each job received to its hard disk. To initiate the printing of jobs on a locked MFP hard disk, enter the correct PIN on the control panel to unlock the MFP. A locked MFP also prevents all use of the control panel except to unlock the MFP. Note:This setting is only available on MFP models with an integrated hard disk drive. Back channel data is processed while the MFP is locked. Reports, such as user or event logs, can be retrieved from a locked MFP. 1Touch the Menus button on the home screen. 2Touch Settings. 3Touch the down arrow and then touch Security. 4Touch the down arrow and then touch Create/Change PasswordsÆ Create/Change Device Lockout PIN. 5Enter and reenter a 4-digit PIN. 6Touch Submit. Locking the MFP using the Device Lockout PIN 1Touch the Lock Device button. 2Enter the 4-digit Device Lockout PIN. Unlocking the MFP using the Device Lockout PIN 1Touch the Unlock Device button. 2Enter the 4-digit Device Lockout PIN. Setting a password before printing received faxes To prevent received faxes from being printed until a password is entered: 1Open a Web browser. In the address line, enter the IP address of the MFP being configured using this format: http://ip_address/. 2Click Configuration. 3Under Default Settings, click Fax SettingsÆ Analog Fax Setup. 4Scroll to Holding Faxes and click it. 5Select Always On for Held Fax Mode. 6Define a Print Faxes Password in the field. 7Click Submit. Releasing held faxes for printing 1On the MFP touch screen control panel, touch the Release Held Faxes button. Note:If the Release Held Faxes button appears as pale gray and the words appear faded on the button, then the button is inactive because no fax jobs are being held.
