The RH side of the vehicle operates in much the same way. Fuse 12 (C581-4)
supplies a feed to the RH front side lamp (C537-2) on a red/orange wire. The
side lamp is earthed (C537-1) is earthed on a black wire. Connected in parallel
with the side lamp is the trailer pick-up (C1144-1), which is also supplied a feed
on a red/orange wire. The trailer pick-up (C1144-2) is connected to the RH tail

Main Beam
When the column switch is moved to the main beam position, current flows
from the switch (C36-5) to fuses 9 and 10 (C580-17) of the passenger
compartment fuse box, and the main beam warning lamp (C230-6) in the
instrument pack. All are connected by blue/white wires.
Fuse 9 (C580-18) supplies a feed to the RH headlamp main beam bulb (C11-1)
on a blue/orange wire. Fuse 10 (C580-20) supplies a feed to the LH headlamp
main beam bulb (C9-1) on a blue/slate...

EXTERIOR LAMPS - Headlamp Levelling
DESCRIPTION
To prevent dazzling oncoming drivers, the headlamps can be adjusted to
compensate for the effect of different loads on headlamp vertical alignment.
Headlamp levelling is controlled by a four position switch mounted in the centre
of the fascia, which operates a levelling motor on each headlamp. Nominal

DEFENDER V8i
The rear fog guard lamp ECU (C543-4) is connected to the rear fog guard lamp
switch (C64-2) by a red/slate wire. When the switch is depressed momentarily,
it provides an earth (C64-3) on a black wire. The fog guard lamp ECU is also
earthed (C543-1) directly on a black wire. When the ECU senses the second
earth via the switch, it provides a feed (C543-3) to the instrument pack warning
lamp (C230-1), the RH rear fog guard lamp (C512-1), and the LH rear fog
guard...

Hazards
The hazard warning switch (C96-7) is supplied with a permanent battery feed
from fuse 5 of the engine compartment fuse box (C574-3) on a brown/purple
wire. Pressing the switch to the on position allows power to flow across the
switch (C96-5) to the direction indicator relay (C536-6) on a light green wire.
The energised relay is now able to provide a feed (C536-8) for both the LH and
RH indicator circuits on a light green/brown wire. The relay is...

The front interior lamp works on the same principle.
Fuse 2 of the passenger compartment fuse box (C580-4) supplies a feed to the
front interior lamp (C355-3) on a purple wire. The front interior lamp has an
integral switch. With this switch in the normal (central) position, the lamp is
earthed (C355-1) via the Alarm ECU (C61-1) on a purple/white wire. The Alarm
