Body conversions 2 Maintenance Bo dy con version sRECOMMENDATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS 1. Loading the vehicle All loads should be placed as low on the vehicle floor as possible, particularly heavy loads. If there is mixed weight loads the lighter items should be stacked above the heavier items. Ensure that all loads are stowed securely to prevent them from sliding or falling. Do not exceed the axle and gross vehicle load weights. These are shown in the Owner Handbook. 2. High centre of gravity The vehicle centre of gravity (C of G) may be higher with individual types of body conversions. It can also alter with incorrect or inappropriate loading. NOTE: All drivers need to be aware of the effects of a high centre of gravity upon handling and braking performance of the vehicle and the effects of load transference when driving. As with any vehicle with a high C of G, any sudden or violent driving actions must be avoided to prevent the vehicle from possibly tipping over.3. Equipment stowage Always ensure before driving the vehicle that any crane, hydraulic platform, tipper body etc. is stowed and secured in its travelling position. 4. External lighting Where any auxiliary worklamps are fitted to the vehicle it is the drivers responsibility to ensure that they are switched off before driving the vehicle on the public highway. Safety operating requirements should be consulted before use. 5. Equipment handbooks Some conversions such as hydraulic platforms are supplied with a manufacturers handbook. It is the user/operators responsibility to read and fully understand all aspects of operating the equipment, as well as any Health and Safety requirements, before use. It is also necessary that they have the requisite operators license to use this equipment where required by legislation. 6. Vehicle height Some vehicle body conversions may increase the overall height of the vehicle. The table and illustrations following show the various heights of some basic conversions. It is the driver’s responsibility to know the height of their actual vehicle.
