INTERIOR LAMPS
DESCRIPTION
Defender 1999 MY vehicle are fitted with an interior lamp in the front of the
vehicle. 110 Station wagon vehicles are also fitted with a rear interior lamp.
Both lamps can be switched on manually using their integral switches. If any
door, including the tail door are opened, the lamps will illuminate.
The lamps are controlled by the alarm ECU. The ECU contains a time out
feature which switches off the interior lamps after eight...

Feed from the battery positive terminal is connected to fuse 6 and fuse 7 of the
engine compartment fuse box (C0632-1) by a brown wire. Fuse 6 (C0574-2)
supplies a feed to the alarm ECU (C0057-8) on a purple/brown wire. Fuse 7
(C0574-1) supplies a feed to the front (C0355-3) and rear (C0356-3) interior
lamps on a purple/brown then purple wires.

INTERIOR ILLUMINATION
DESCRIPTION
With the lighting switch in either the side lamp or headlamp position, the interior
controls and gauges are illuminated so they can be easily located during night
driving. Interior illumination is not controlled by the ignition switch.

INSTRUMENTS
DESCRIPTION
The vehicle relays information to the driver via the instrument pack. The
instrument pack contains lamps and analogue gauges. The colour of the lamp
denotes the severity of the information. Warning lamps are red, caution lamps
are orange, green and blue lamps indicate a system is operating.
The analogue gauges relay information to the driver such as engine speed,
and engine temperature.

supplied with the following feeds;
·The water filter warning lamp (C0230-4), which is provided a feed from the
water filter sensor (C0735-1) on an orange/green wire.

the oil temperature switch (C0219-1) on a slate/red wire.

DESCRIPTION
Defender 1999 MY vehicles are fitted with one or two horns (dependent on
market configuration), one mounted behind each headlamp. The horn(s) are
operated by depressing the end of the direction indicator switch, and are not
dependent on ignition switch position.

CLOCK
DESCRIPTION
The analogue clock is located within the instrument pack. The clock is
illuminated when the side lamps or headlamps are switched on.
OPERATION
Feed from the battery positive terminal connected to fuse 7 and fusible link 6 of
the engine compartment fuse box (C0632-1) by a brown wire. Fuse 7 supplies
a constant battery feed to the clock (C0232-3) on a purple/brown wire. The

CIGAR LIGHTER
DESCRIPTION
The cigar lighter is located towards the centre of the dash panel. Pressing the
centre of the cigar lighter latches the heater element into the holder. With the
ignition in position I, power flows through the heating element of the cigar
lighter, causing it to heat up. When the heating element reaches a sufficient
temperature, the holder automatically releases the cigar lighter which can then
be removed for use.

IN-CAR ENTERTAINMENT
OPERATION
The radio/cassette player operates when the ignition switch is in position I or
II. Signal output from the radio/cassette player is relayed to two speakers
mounted in the lower fascia. The radio/cassette display is illuminated when the
unit is switched on.
