6-2Option General Information The printers have the following options available to satisfy your printing requirements. For instructions on installing individual options, refer to the documentation included with the option. Some options are explained in the following sections. Option6-3 Expansion Memory Modules To expand the printer memory for more complex print jobs and faster print speed, you can plug in optional memory module (dual in line memory module) in the memory slot provided on the printer main controller board. You can select additional memory module from 64, 128, 256 or 512MB. The maximum memory size is 544MB. Precautions for handling the printers main controller board and memory module To protect electronic parts, discharge static electricity from your body by touching a water pipe (faucet) or other large metal object before handling the memory module. Or, wear an antistatic wrist strap, if possible, when you install the memory module. Always hold the main controller board or a memory module by its edges as shown below to avoid damaging electronic parts. Note The expansion memory should only be installed by your service technician. 6-4Option Installing the Memory Module 1 Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord and printer cable. 2Remove the right cover as shown in the figure. 3Remove the fixing tape in case of the first installation. Then, remove the memory slot cover as shown in the figure. 4Push out the clamps on both ends of the memory socket. 5Remove the memory module from its package. 6Aligning the cutouts of the memory module with the matching keys of the socket, carefully plug the memory module into the memory socket until it clicks in place. Option6-5 7The memory module is secured to the memory socket with the clamps. 8Reinstall the memory slot cover and the right cover. Removing a Memory Module To remove a memory module, remove the right cover and the memory slot cover from the printer. Then, carefully push out the two socket clamps. Ease the memory module out of the socket to remove. Verifying the expanded memory To verify that the memory module is working properly, test it by printing a status page. 6-6Option Paper Feeder (PF-100) The PF-100 allows you to add one (for FS-1120D) or two (for FS-1320D) more paper cassette to the bottom of the printer for continuous feeding of a large volume of paper. Each paper cassette can hold up to approximately 250 sheets of ISO A4, ISO A5, JIS B5, Letter, or Legal size (80g/m 2) paper. Option6-7 Network Interface Card (IB-23) The network interface card supports TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, NetBEUI and AppleTalk protocols, so that the printer can be used on network environments including Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, NetWare, etc. The network interface card must be installed in the option interface slot that is located at the back of the printer. 1Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord and printer cable. 2Open the rear cover. 3Remove the optional interface slot cover. 4Insert the Network Interface Card and secure it with the screws removed in step 3. 5Close the rear cover, and connect the printer cable. 6Connect the power cord, and turn on the printer. 7Configure the network address from Quick Setup. For more information, refer to Operation Guide of the network card. CAUTION Before inserting a network interface card in the printer, make sure that the printer is switched off. 6-8Option CompactFlash (CF) Card To read the optional fonts, macros, and overlays stored in the CF card, insert the CF card to the slot of the printer according to the following\ steps. The maximum size of the CF card is 256MB. For details of the CF card, contact your service technician. 1Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord and printer cable. 2Open the rear cover. 3Remove the optional interface slot cover.
