If not, the camera uses internal memory. Internal Memory—The camera always uses internal memory, even if a card is installed. LanguageChoose your language. NOTE: You can also use a card reader to transfer your pictures/videos. Download KODAK Software later www.kodak.com/go/camerasw To use this camera on more than one computer, use the camera’s Reset Startup Application feature See page 45 Turn on the camera.3 1Turn off the camera. After the software is installed, follow the prompts to transfer pictures and videos to your computer. 2 * If the downloader does not run, find and launch it: • WINDOWS OS: in My Computer • MAC OS: on your DesktopUse the KODAK Camera USB Cable, U-8 to connect camera to computer. (Use only the cable included with this camera!) Make sure the computer is connected to the Internet. When you connect the camera to the computer, the KODAK Software Downloader automatically runs. Transferring, printing pictures www.kodak.com/go/support 47 Printing pictures Direct printing with a KODAK All-in-One Printer Your camera is compatible with PICTBRIDGE Technology, so you can print directly to PICTBRIDGE enabled Printers. You need a camera, a PICTBRIDGE enabled Printer, and a USB cable. Connecting the camera to a KODAK All-in-One Printer 1Turn off the camera and printer. 2Connect the appropriate USB cable from the camera to the printer. Printing from a KODAK All-in-One Printer 1Turn on the printer. Turn on the camera. The PictBridge logo is displayed, followed by the current picture and menu. (If no pictures are found, a message is displayed.) If the menu turns off, press any button to redisplay it. 2Choose a printing option, then press OK. Current Picture—Press to choose a picture. Tagged Pictures—If your printer is capable, print pictures that you marked for printing. Index Print—Print thumbnails of all pictures. (This option requires one or more sheets of paper.) All Pictures—Print all pictures in internal memory or on a card. Image Storage—Access Auto or Internal Memory. NOTE: During direct printing, pictures are not permanently transferred or saved to the printer. To transfer pictures to your computer, see page 46. Press to find a picture. 2Press the Menu button. 3Press to choose Print, then press OK. 4Press to choose the number of copies, then press OK ■Press the Shutter button halfway down to return to Capture mode. When you transfer the marked pictures/videos to your computer, the software prompts you to print the pictures/videos. (For other software applications, refer to their documentation.) Troubleshooting www.kodak.com/go/support 51 Troubleshooting Camera problems StatusSolution Camera does not turn on■Charge rechargeable batteries (see page 1). ■Remove then reinsert or replace batteries. If the camera still does not function, go to www.kodak.com/go/z981support and select Interactive Troubleshooting & Repairs. Camera does not turn off Camera buttons and controls do not function Camera freezes up when a card is inserted or removed.■Turn the camera off, then back on. Make sure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing a card. LCD is too dark.■Adjust the LCD Brightness setting (see page 43). In Review, a blue or black screen is displayed instead of a picture■Transfer the picture to the computer (see page 46), then format the card or internal memory. ■Take another picture. In Review, you do not see a picture (or the expected picture) on the LCD■Check the image storage location (see page 45). Format the card in the camera (see page 45) Caution: Formatting a card deletes all pictures and videos, including protected files. Pictures remaining number does not decrease after taking a picture■Continue taking pictures. The camera is operating normally. (The camera estimates the number of pictures remaining after each picture is taken, based on picture size and content.) The Reset Camera feature did not take effect.■After using the Reset Camera feature (see page 45), turn the camera off and then on again. Battery life is short■Make sure the correct battery type is installed (see page 60). ■Charge the batteries (see page 1). ■Use a power-saving LCD Brightness setting (see page 43). Shutter button does not work.■Tu r n o n t h e c a m e r a (see page 3). ■Transfer pictures to the computer (see page 46), delete pictures from the camera (see page 29), switch image storage locations (see page 45), or insert a card with available memory (see page 6). Memory card not recognized or camera freezes with card■Card may be corrupted. Format the card in the camera (see page 45). Caution: Formatting a card deletes all pictures and videos, including protected files. ■Use another memory card. Only SD or SDHC Cards are supported. Pictures on card (or in internal memory) are corrupted■Retake pictures. ■Do not remove card while the camera is on. ■Keep rechargeable batteries charged. ■Transfer pictures to the computer (see page 46), then format the card or internal memory (see page 45). Troubleshooting www.kodak.com/go/support 53 Computer/connectivity problems Picture quality problems StatusSolution Slide Show does not run on an external video device■Adjust the camera Video Out setting to NTSC or PAL (see page 44). ■Make sure the external device settings are correct. (See the device’s user guide.) Computer does not communicate with the camera■Turn off the camera, then turn it back on. ■Make sure the batteries are charged and installed correctly (see page 1). ■Make sure the KODAK Camera USB Cable, U-8 is connected to the camera and the computer (see page 46). Then turn on the camera. ■See KODAK Software Help at www.kodak.com/go/camerasw. StatusSolution Picture is not clear■To automatically set exposure and focus, press the Shutter button halfway. When the framing marks turn green, press the Shutter button completely down to take the picture. ■Clean the lens (see page 59). ■Make sure the camera is not in Macro mode (see page 17). ■Place the camera on a flat, steady surface or use a tripod (especially in high-zoom settings or in low light). ■Use a larger picture size (see page 40). ■If you’re manually adjusting the ISO speed, realize that high ISO setting may cause grainy pictures. (See Camera Specifications, starting on page 57.) ■To automatically set exposure and focus, press the Shutter button halfway. When the framing marks turn green, press the Shutter button completely down to take the picture. ■In Program mode, adjust the Exposure Compensation (see page 21). Picture is too light■Reposition the camera to reduce the amount of available light. ■Turn the flash off (see page 14). ■Move so that the distance between you and the subject is within the effective flash range. (See Camera Specifications, starting on page 57.) ■To automatically set exposure and focus, press the Shutter button halfway. When the framing marks turn green, press the Shutter button completely down to take the picture. ■In Program mode, adjust the Exposure Compensation (see page 21). Pictures that have KODAK PERFECT TOUCH Technology applied (twice) are of lower image quality.■If PERFECT TOUCH Technology has been applied to a picture on the camera, do not apply it again when the picture is on the computer (or on a KODAK Picture Kiosk).
