A graduated scale on the side of the glass carafe helps measure the amount of water required. The right side of the scale (“coffee”) is a measurement of carafe volume in 4 1⁄4ounce cups. When the carafe is removed, a special valve stops the flow of coffee from the brew basket. Brewing, however, does not stop.
