If your unit should not perform as expected, consult the table below to see if the problem can corrected before seeking help from your dealer or service representative. How to reset the microcomputer The microcomputer may malfunction (impossibility of operation, erroneous display, etc.) when the power cord is unplugged and plugged in again while the unit is in ON mode with the key pressed or due to other external causes. In this case, execute the procedure on the right to reset the microcomputer and return the unit to the normal condition. 1Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. 2While holding the (ON/STANDBY) key depressed, plug the power cord into the wall outlet again. ÖResetting the microcomputer clears the memory you entered and returns it to the initial condition when the unit left the factory. ÖConnection cords are unplugged from the jacks. ÖMUTE is ON. (The MUTE ON indicator is blinking) ÖThe TAPE 2 (MONITOR) key is set to ON. ÖSpeaker cords are short-circuited. ÖThe BALANCE control is set to an extreme position. ÖThe surround speaker cords and/or center speaker cord are disconnected. ÖThe Surround play mode has not been engaged. ÖThe surround and center speaker levels are set to the minimum positions. ÖÒTAPE1Ó or ÒMDÓ is not displayed. ÖÒLDÓ or ÒDVDÓ is not displayed. ÖSystem control cords are connected incor- rectly.ÖConnect them properly referring to ÒSystem connectionÓ. 57ÖPress the MUTE key to OFF.¢ ÖSet the TAPE 2 (MONITOR) key to OFF. ÖUnplug the AC cord, remove the short- circuiting and plug the AC cord again. ÖAdjust the Left/Right balance. £ ÖConnect them by referring to the power amplifierÕs instruction manual. ÖSet the presence mode. ¡ ÖAdjust the surround and center speaker levels. ÖSwitch the display to ÒTAPE 1Ó or ÒMDÓ. 0 ÖSwitch the display to show ÒLDÓ or ÒDVDÓ.0 ÖConnect them correctly by referring to ÒSys- tem connectionÓ. Remedy Cause Amplifier Symptom Sound is not output or the volume level is low. ÒPROTECTÓ blinks and sound is not output. Sound is not output from one of the speakers. Sound is not output from the surround speaker and/or center speaker, or their sound is very small. System control is not available when TAPE1 or MD is selected. System control is not available when LD or DVD is selected. System control is impossible. Remedy Cause ÖNo antenna is connected. ÖThe broadcast band is not set properly. ÖThe frequency of the desired station is not tuned. ÖNoise due to ignition noise of an automobile. ÖNoise due to an influence from an electric appliance. ÖNoise due to a nearby TV set. ÖThe preset memory was cleared because the power cord had been unplugged for a long period of time. ÖThe TUNER input is not selected. Radio stations cannot be received. Interference. A station which was preset cannot be received by pressing the corresponding numeric key.ÖConnect an antenna.8ÖSet the broadcast band properly.¤ÖTune the frequency of the desired station.¤ ÖInstall the outdoor antenna away from the road. ÖTurn off the power to the appliance. ÖInstall the system farther away from the TV set. ÖPreset the stations by auto memory again. ¥ ÖSelect the TUNER input. Tuner Symptom Donot use contact cleaning agents because they could case a malfunction. Be specifically careful against using contact cleaning agents containing oil, since they may deform the plastic components.

ÖThe remote control unit is too far away from the main system, controlling angle is too large, or there is an obstacle in between. ÖThe audio cords and system control cords are not connected properly. ÖThe source component to be operated does not contain the tape(s) or disc. ÖBatteries are exhausted. ÖBatteries are removed while something is dis- played.ÖReplace with new batteries.@)ÖOperate the remote control unit within the controllable range.! ÖConnect properly referring to ÒSystem con- nectionÓ.57ÖPlace the tape(s) or disc in the source compo- nent to be played. ÖReplace with new batteries. @ ÖRemove and replace batteries after the infor- mation display has disappeared. Remote control operation is not possible. The GRC screen is not displayed. The GRC display is abnormal. Remedy Cause Symptom Please note that the following items will be deleted from this unitÕs memory if the power cord is disconnected from the AC outlet for approximately three days. ÖThe input selection is cleared and the TUNER input is selected. ÖThe volume setting is cleared and the volume is set to -65 dB. ÖThe receiving band setting is cleared and the FM band is selected. ÖThe frequency setting is cleared and 87.5 MHz is selected. ÖThe preset station memory is cleared. ÖThe voice activation setting is cleared and the activation by non- specified person is set. ÖThe surround setting is cleared and reset to the initial condition. ÖThe clock and timer setup is cleared and the clock display shows AM 12:00 which is blinking.
