2 Getting to know your computer Top TouchPad Component Description (1) TouchPad light●On: The TouchPad is off. ●Off: The TouchPad is on. (2) TouchPad on/off button Turns the TouchPad on or off. (3) TouchPad zone Moves the pointer and selects or activates items on the screen. (4) Left TouchPad button Functions like the left button on an external mouse. (5) TouchPad accent light Illuminates the TouchPad for visual comfort under dark conditions when the TouchPad is on. Lights Component Description (1) Caps lock light ●White: Caps lock is on. ●Off: Caps lock is off. (2) Power light●White: The computer is on. ●Blinking white: The computer is in the Sleep state. ●Off: The computer is off or in Hibernation. (3) Mute light●Amber: Computer sound is off. ●Off: Computer sound is on. (4) Wireless light ●White: An integrated wireless device, such as a wireless local area network (WLAN) device and/or a Bluetooth® device, is on. ●Amber: All wireless devices are off. (5) TouchPad accent light Illuminates the TouchPad for visual comfort under dark conditions when the TouchPad is on. (6) TouchPad light●On: The TouchPad is off. ●Off: The TouchPad is on. Buttons, speakers, and fingerprint reader Component Description (1) Power button ●When the computer is off, press the button to turn on the computer. ●When the computer is on, press the button briefly to initiate Sleep. ●When the computer is in the Sleep state, press the button briefly to exit Sleep. ●When the computer is in Hibernation, press the button briefly to exit Hibernation. If the computer has stopped responding and Windows® shutdown procedures are ineffective, press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds to turn off the computer. To learn more about your power settings, select Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options, or refer to Setting power options on page 42. Component Description (3) QuickWeb button Opens QuickWeb (select models only). ●When the computer is off or in Hibernation, press the button to open HP QuickWeb. ●When the computer is in Microsoft Windows, press the button to open the default Web browser. ●When the computer is in HP QuickWeb, press the button to open the Web browser. QuickWeb allows you to browse the Internet, communicate with Skype, and explore other HP QuickWeb programs. When the computer is off or in Hibernation, you can press the QuickWeb button to access these features without waiting for the operating system to start. NOTE:For more information, refer to HP QuickWeb(select models only) on page 16 and to the HP QuickWeb software Help. If your computer does not have HP QuickWeb software, the button opens the Web browser. (4) Fingerprint reader Allows a fingerprint logon to Windows instead of a password logon. Top 7
Keys Component Description (1) esc key Displays system information when pressed in combination with the fn key. (2) fn key Executes frequently used system functions when pressed in combination with the b key, the spacebar, or the esc key. (3)Windows logo key Displays the Windows Start menu. (4) b keyEnables o disables the Beats Audio bass settings (select models only) when pressed in combination with the fn key. Beats Audio is an enhanced audio profile that provides a deep, controlled bass while maintaining a clear sound. Beats Audio is enabled by default. You can also view and control the bass settings through the Windows operating system. To view and control the bass properties: Select Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Beats Audio Control Panel . (5)Windows applications key Displays a shortcut menu for items beneath the pointer. (6) Integrated numeric keypad When the keypad has been enabled, it can be used like an external numeric keypad. (4) Optical drive (select models only) Reads and writes to an optical disc. (5) Optical drive light (select models only)●White: The optical drive is being accessed. ●Amber: The optical drive is idle. (6) Optical drive eject button (select models only)Ejects the optical disc. (7) AC adapter light●White: The computer is connected to external power and the battery is fully charged. ●Amber: The battery is charging. ●Off: The computer is not connected to external power. (8) Power connector Connects an AC adapter. (9) Security cable slot Attaches an optional security cable to the computer.
