    To view or change the pointing device preferences:
    1. Select Start > Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-click the device representing your computer.
    3. Select Mouse settings.

    Lights
    ItemComponentDescription
    1Power lights (2)*On—The computer is on.
    Flashing—The computer is in Sleep.
    Off—The computer is off or in Hibernation.
    2Battery lightOn—The battery is charging.
    Flashing—The battery reaches a low battery level or a critical battery level.
    Off—If the computer is connected to an external power source, the light is off 
    when all batteries in the computer are fully charged. If the computer is not 
    connected to an external power source, the light is off until the battery 
    reaches a low battery level.
    3Drive lightFlashing—The hard drive or the optical drive is being accessed.
    On—HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection has temporarily parked the 
    internal hard drive, and if present, the hard drive in the SmartBay.
    4Caps lock lightOn—The caps lock is on.
    5Volume Mute light White—The computer sound is on.
    Amber—The computer sound is off.
    6Volume Down lightOn—Decreases speaker volume.
    7Volume Up lightOn—Increases speaker volume.
    8Num lock lightOn—The num lock is on or the embedded numeric keypad is enabled.
    9Wireless lightBlue—An integrated wireless device, such as a wireless local area network 
    (WLAN) device and/or a Bluetooth® device, is on.
    Amber—No wireless devices are detected.
    *The two Power lights display the same information. The light on the Power button is visible only when the computer is open. 
    The Power light on the front of the computer is visible whether the computer is open or closed.

    Buttons, speakers, and fingerprint reader

    1Speakers (2)Produce sound.
    2Power button*When the computer is off, press the button to turn on the computer.
    When the computer is on, press the button to initiate Sleep.
    When the computer is in Sleep, press the button to exit Sleep.
    When the computer is in Hibernation, press the button to exit Hibernation.
    If the computer has stopped responding and Windows shutdown procedures 
    are ineffective, press and hold the Power button for at least five seconds to 
    shut down the computer.
    To learn more about power settings, select Start > Control Panel > System 
    and Security > Power Options.
    3Volume Mute buttonMutes and restores speaker sound.
    4Volume Scroll zoneAdjusts speaker volume. To decrease volume, slide your finger to the left or 
    tap the minus sign on the scroll zone. To increase volume, slide your finger to 
    the right or tap the plus sign on the scroll zone. 
    5Wireless buttonTurns the wireless feature on or off but does not create a wireless
    connection.
    ✎A wireless network must be set up in order to establish a wireless 
    connection.
    6Fingerprint Reader 
    (select models only)
    Allows a fingerprint logon to Windows, instead of a password logon.
