Disconnect the LED board cable 1 from the low insertion force (LIF) connector on the system board. 5. Lift the rear edge of the switch cover 2 and swing it up and forward until it detaches from the computer. 6. Remove the switch cover. Reverse this procedure to install the switch cover.

If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see “Battery” on page 6). 5. Remove the following components: a. Hard drive cover (see “Hard drive” on page 8) b. Keyboard (see “Keyboard” on page 21) c. Switch cover (see “Switch cover” on page 25). Remove the speaker assembly: 1. Disconnect the speaker assembly cable 1 from the system board. 2. Release the speaker cables from the clips 2 and routing channels built into the top cover. 3. Remove the three Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws 3 that secure the speaker assembly to the top cover. 4. Remove the speaker assembly 4. Reverse this procedure to install the speaker assembly. 4–28Maintenance and Service Guide Removal and replacement procedures Display assembly ✎The display assembly spare part kit includes 2 WLAN antenna transceivers and cables, 2 WWAN antenna transceivers and cables, webcam, microphone, nameplate, and logo. Before removing the display assembly, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see “Battery” on page 6). 5. Disconnect the wireless antenna cables from the WLAN module (see “WLAN module” on page 11) and the WWAN module (see “WWAN module” on page 15). 6. Remove the following components: a. Disconnect the display panel cable 2 from the system board. ÄCAUTION: Support the display assembly when removing the following screws. Failure to support the display assembly can result in damage to the display assembly and other computer components. 3. Remove the two Phillips PM2.5×6.0 screws 1 that secure the display assembly to the computer. 4. Lift the display assembly 2 straight up and remove it.

If it is necessary to replace the display enclosure or any of the display assembly internal components, remove the Mylar screw covers 1 and the two Phillips PM2.5×6.0 screws 2 on the display bezel lower edge. 6. Turn the display assembly upside down with the bottom edge toward you. 7. Detach the bottom edge of the display enclosure 1 and lift it up as far as the display LED cable allows. 8. Disconnect the display LED cable 2. 9. Remove the display enclosure 3. If it is necessary to replace the webcam/microphone module, release the two metal tabs 1 built into the display panel shielding. 11. Lift the webcam/microphone module 2 as far from the display bezel as the webcam/microphone cable allows. 12. Disconnect the webcam/microphone module 3 from the webcam/microphone module. 13. Remove the webcam/microphone module. The webcam/microphone module is available using spare part number 531785-001. 14. If it is necessary to replace the display panel cable, fold back the flap built into the display panel shielding 1. 15. Lift the top edge of the display panel cable bracket 2 and swing it toward you and down. 16. Disconnect the display panel cable from the display panel 3.

The display panel cable is available using spare part number 531782-001. 19. If it is necessary to replace the display hinges, remove the hinge covers 1 from the hinges. 20. Remove the six Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screws 2 and the four Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws 3 that secure the hinges to the display panel. 21. Remove the display hinges 4. If it is necessary to replace the display bezel or any of the display assembly internal components, remove the Mylar screw covers 1 and the two Phillips PM2.5×6.0 screws 2 on the display bezel lower edge. 23. Flex the inside edges of the top edge 1, the left and right sides 2, and the bottom edge of the display bezel 3until the bezel disengages from the display enclosure. 24. Remove the display bezel 4. If it is necessary to replace the webcam/microphone module, lift the webcam/microphone module 1 as far from the display enclosure as the webcam/microphone module allows. 26. Disconnect the webcam/microphone module cable 2 from the webcam/microphone module. 27. Remove the webcam/microphone module. The webcam/microphone module is available using spare part number 531785-001. 28. If it is necessary to replace the display panel, remove the six Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screws 1 that secure the display panel to the display enclosure. 29. Remove the display panel 2. The display panel is available using the following spare part numbers: ❏531779-001—for use only with computer models equipped with a 13.4-inch display assembly ❏531778-001—for use only with computer models equipped with a 13.3-inch display assembly.

If it is necessary to replace the display hinges, remove the six Phillips PM2.0×30 screws 1 that secure the hinges to the display panel. 31. Remove the display hinges 2. If it is necessary to replace the display panel cable, turn the display panel upside down with the bottom edge toward you. 33. Detach the support strip 1 that secures the display panel cable to the display panel. 34. Disconnect the display panel cable 2 from the connector on the back of the display panel. 35. Remove the display panel cable 3. The display panel cable is available using spare part number 531782-001.
