●sMedio 360 Suite enables you to wirelessly stream and share media between enabled computers and mobile devices. These features are located on the Start screen. ●sMedio 360 TrueSync enables you to migrate (1-way communication) or synchronize (2-way communication) data between two computers on a Wi-Fi (or wired) home group network. These features are located on the Windows desktop and are also compatible with computers running Windows 7 operating systems. ●sMedio 360 TrueLink+ enables you to transfer (copy) or stream (play) photos, videos, and music from either your Android phone to your computer or vice versa. Finding more information For more information on using this software, click the Tutorials app on the sMedio 360 screen. To explore all of the available features, click Learn More in the Tutorial app. Using sMedio 360 Suite To stream and share media from one device to another, your computers and mobile devices must be on the same home group network with media sharing enabled. For information on setting up a home group network, select the Tutorial app on the sMedio screen. To enable media sharing: 1.From the Start screen, point to the upper-right or lower-right corner of the display to reveal the charms. 2.Select Settings, and then click the network status icon. 3.Right-click the network you are connected to, and then select Turn sharing on or off. Accessing sMedio 360 Suite ▲From the Start screen, select the sMedio 360 Suite app. – or – From the Start screen, type s, and then select sMedio 360 Suite for HP from the list of applications. Using sMedio 360 TrueSync To migrate and synchronize data between two computers, they must be on the same home group network. For information on setting up a home group network, select the Tutorial app on the sMedio screen. Accessing sMedio 360 TrueSync 1.From the Windows desktop, click the sMedio 360 TrueSync icon on the taskbar. 2.Follow the on-screen instructions for creating your account and setting up your folders to migrate and synchronize. TIP:You will also be guided through the process of setting up additional computers to create the synchronization relationship. This helps you copy the software to additional computers to complete the synchronization or migration process. Sharing media and data between devices 21
Using sMedio 360 TrueLink+ Download the sMedio 360 TrueLink+ free app on your phone to wirelessly share photos, videos, and music from your Android 4.0 smart phone and your computer. Your phone must be on the same home group network as your computer. Refer to the phone's manufacturer instructions for connecting to your home group network. NOTE:In order to share media from your phone to your computer, they must be in a compatible format. Determining your Android phone operating system (OS) version sMedio 360 TrueLink+ works with Android 4.0 operating (OS) phones. To determine which OS version is installed on your phone: 1.Go to the Settings screen on your phone, and then tap About Phone. 2.Tap Android version to determine which OS is installed. Downloading the sMedio 360 TrueLink+ app on your phone You must install the sMedio 360 TrueLink+ app on your phone before you can begin wirelessly sharing media. This is a free app that is located in the Google Play app store. ▲Click the Tutorials icon on the sMedio 360 main screen for instructions on downloading and using this app. Sharing media from your phone to your computer 1.Be sure that your phone and computer are connected to the same home group network. 2.On your computer, select the sMedio 360 Suite app from the Start screen, and then select Media Receiver. 3.On your phone, open the sMedio TrueLink+ app, tap My Devices, and then tap My Mobile. 4.Swipe left or right to find your music, videos, and photos. 5.Open the media that you want to share. 6.Click the arrow on the top of the phone screen, and then select the device that you want to send the media file. 7.In a few seconds, the media file will appear on the device you selected. Using audio On your HP computer, you can play music CDs, download and listen to music, stream audio content from the web (including radio), record audio, or mix audio and video to create multimedia. To enhance your listening enjoyment, attach external audio devices such as speakers or headphones. Connecting speakers You can attach wired speakers to your computer by connecting them to a USB port or the audio-out (headphone) jack on your computer or on a docking station. To connect wireless speakers to your computer, follow the device manufacturer's instructions. To connect high-definition speakers to the computer, see Configuring HDMI audio settings on page 25. Connecting headphones You can connect wired headphones to the headphone jack on your computer. To connect wireless headphones to your computer, follow the device manufacturer's instructions. WARNING!To reduce the risk of personal injury, lower the volume setting before putting on headphones, earbuds, or a headset. For additional safety information, see the Regulatory, Safety and Environmental Notices . To access this guide, from the Start screen, type support, select the HP Support Assistant app, select My computer, and then select User guides. Connecting a microphone To record audio, connect a microphone to the microphone jack on the computer. For best results when recording, speak directly into the microphone and record sound in a setting free of background noise. Checking the sound To check the audio functions on your computer, follow these steps: 1.From the Start screen, type c, and then select Control Panel from the list of applications. 2.Select Hardware and Sound, and then select Sound. 3.When the Sound window opens, select the Sounds tab. Under Program Events, select any sound event, such as a beep or alarm, and then click Test. You should hear sound through the speakers or through connected headphones. To check the recording functions on your computer, follow these steps: 1.From the Start screen, type s, and then select Sound Recorder. 2.Click Start Recording and speak into the microphone. Save the file to your desktop. 3.Open a multimedia program and play the recording. To confirm or change the audio settings on your computer: 1.From the Start screen, type c, and then select Control Panel from the list of applications. 2.Select Hardware and Sound, and then select Sound. Using video Your HP computer is a powerful video device that enables you to watch streaming video from your favorite websites and download video and movies to watch on your computer without needing to connect to a network. To enhance your viewing enjoyment, use one of the video ports on the computer to connect an external monitor, projector, or TV. Most computers have a video graphics array (VGA) port, which connects analog video devices. Some computers also have a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) port, which allows you to connect a high-definition monitor or TV. IMPORTANT:Be sure that the external device is connected to the correct port on the computer, using the correct cable. Check the device manufacturer's instructions. Using video 23
Connecting a VGA monitor or projector To see the computer screen image on an external VGA monitor or projected for a presentation, connect a monitor or projector to the computer's VGA port. To connect a monitor or projector: 1.Connect the VGA cable from the monitor or projector to the VGA port on the computer as shown. 2.Press f4 to alternate the screen image between 4 display states: ●PC Screen only: View the screen image on the computer only. ●Duplicate: View the screen image simultaneously on both the computer and external device. ●Extend: View the screen image extended across both the computer and external device. ●Second screen only: View the screen image on the external device only. Each time you press f4, the display state changes. NOTE:For best results, especially if you choose the "Extend" option, adjust the screen resolution of the external device. From the Start screen, type c, and then select Control Panel from the list of applications. Select Appearance and Personalization. Under Display, select Adjust screen resolution. Connecting an HDMI device NOTE:To connect an HDMI device to your computer, you need an HDMI cable, sold separately. To see the computer screen image on a high-definition TV or monitor, connect the high-definition device according to the following instructions. 1.Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port on the computer. 24 Chapter 4 Enjoying entertainment features
2.Connect the other end of the cable to the high-definition TV or monitor. 3.Press f4 to alternate the computer screen image between 4 display states: ●PC screen only: View the screen image on the computer only. ●Duplicate: View the screen image simultaneously on both the computer and external device. ●Extend: View the screen image extended across both the computer and external device. ●Second screen only: View the screen image on the external device only. Each time you press f4, the display state changes. NOTE:For best results, especially if you choose the “Extend” option, adjust the screen resolution of the external device. From the Start screen, type c, and then select Control Panel from the list of applications. Select Appearance and Personalization. Under Display, select Adjust screen resolution. Configuring HDMI audio settings HDMI is the only video interface that supports high-definition video and audio. After you connect an HDMI TV to the computer, you can then turn on HDMI audio by following these steps: 1.From the Windows desktop, right-click the Speakers icon in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar, and then select Playback devices. 2.On the Playback tab, select the name of the digital output device. 3.Click Set Default, and then click OK. To return the audio stream to the computer speakers: 1.From the Windows desktop, right-click the Speakers icon in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar, and then click Playback devices. 2.On the Playback tab, click Speakers and Headphones. 3.Click Set Default, and then click OK. 5 Navigating using touch gestures, pointing devices and the keyboard Your computer allows navigation using touch gestures (select models only) in addition to the keyboard and mouse. Touch gestures can be used on your computer TouchPad or on a touch screen (select models only). NOTE:An external USB mouse (purchased separately) can be connected to one of the USB ports on the computer. Review the Windows 8 Basics guide included with your computer. The guide provides information on common tasks using the TouchPad, touch screen, or the keyboard. Select computer models have special action keys or hot key functions on the keyboard to perform routine tasks. Some computer models may also have an integrated numeric keypad. Using the TouchPad The TouchPad allows you to navigate the computer with simple finger movements. You can customize the touch gestures by changing settings, button configurations, click speed, and pointer options. From the Start screen, type c, select Control Panel, and then select Hardware and Sound. Under Devices and Printers, select Mouse. Using TouchPad gestures A TouchPad allows you to control the pointer on the screen using your fingers. TIP:Use the left and right buttons on the TouchPad as you would use the corresponding buttons on an external mouse. NOTE:TouchPad gestures are not supported in all apps, and only common gestures are documented in this guide. More gestures are available when you choose to view a demonstration of each gesture. To view a demonstration of each gesture: 1.From the Start screen, type c to reveal the Apps list. Select Control Panel, and then select Hardware and Sound. 2.Select Touch Pad. 3.Click a gesture to activate the demonstration. To turn a gesture off or on: 1.From the Start Screen, type c, select Control Panel, select Hardware and Sound, and then select Touch Pad. The Mouse Properties dialog box opens. 2.From the Touch Pad tab, click the link Click to change the Touch Pad settings. Using the TouchPad 27
3.From the Touch Pad screen, select the appropriate gesture, and then select or clear the check box next to the gesture that you want to turn on or off. 4.Click Save. Tapping To make an on-screen selection, use the tap function on the TouchPad. ●Point to an item on the screen, and then tap one finger on the TouchPad zone to make a selection. Scrolling Scrolling is useful for moving up, down, or sideways on a page or image. ●Place two fingers slightly apart on the TouchPad zone and then drag them up, down, left, or right. Pinching/zooming Pinching and zooming allow you to zoom in or out on images or text. ●Zoom in by placing two fingers together on the TouchPad zone and then moving your fingers apart. ●Zoom out by placing two fingers apart on the TouchPad zone and then moving your fingers together. Using TouchPad gestures 29
Rotating (select models only) Rotating allows you to turn items such as photos. ●Point to an object, then anchor the forefinger of your left hand in the TouchPad zone. Using your right hand, slide your forefinger in a sweeping motion from 12 o’clock to 3 o’clock. To reverse the rotation, move your forefinger from 3 o’clock to 12 o’clock. NOTE:Rotate is intended for specific apps where you can manipulate an object or image. Rotate may not be functional for all apps. Edge swipes Edge swipes allow you to perform tasks such as changing settings and finding or using apps. Right-edge swipe The right-edge swipe reveals the charms, which let you search, share, start apps, access devices, or change settings. ●Swipe your finger gently from the right edge to reveal the charms. Top-edge swipe The top-edge swipe allows you to access All apps available on the Start screen.
