However, this system allows you to place the center speaker up to 1.6 meters closer ( B ) and the rear speakers up to 4.6 meters closer ( C ) to the listening position. The front speakers can be placed from 1.0 to 15.0 meters ( A ) from the listening position. • You can place the subwoofer at any position. 32 Best P Best PBest P Best P Best P osition Setting osition Settingosition Setting osition Setting osition Setting Note • Do not place the center and rear speakers far away from the listening position than the front speakers. • Avoid positioning the speakers in corners, as this will boost the bass tones too much. • Placing the speaker behind curtains, furniture etc. will reduce the treble response, thus reducing the stereo effect considerably. The listener should still be able to see the speaker. • Each room has different acoustic characteristics and position- ing possibilities are often limited. You can find the best position for your speakers by experimenting. In general, the speakers should be arranged as symmetrically as possible. Height HeightHeight Height Height • The best height for front and center speaker is at the height of your ears (while seated). • The height of the rear speakers is not less than the height of your ears (while seated). See the following diagram. It’s advisable to place the rear speakers in the D area. Press the ‘on’ in Speaker Setup page. You will hear the test tone from Front-left speaker, Center speaker, Front-right speaker, Surround-right speaker and Surround-left speaker in sequence. 2. Sit at your listening position, use the VOLUME - or + buttons to adjust the level of each speaker. Adjust the volume level so that the volume of the test tone from each speaker sounds the same. The adjusted value will appear on the front panel display and TV screen. If you do not operate the remote for a few seconds, the value turns off and is stored in the system. 3. Press ‘OFF’ to turn off the test tone. Note • The playback will pause during test tone. • The test tone only tests the valid speakers, depending the cur- rent listening mode. At the same time, you can adjust the Treble of the front speakers. 1.Press the SELECT button to select a channel. The level of the channel will appear on the front panel display and TV screen. TRE (Treble level) adjustable range: -10 dB to +10 dB, 2 dB/ step. FL (Front-left level), CNT (Center level), FR (Front-right level), SR (Surround-right level), SL (Surround-left level) and SUB (Subwoofer level) adjustable range: -15 dB to +10 dB, 1 dB/step. 2. Use the VOLUME - and VOLUME + buttons to adjust the selected channel’s level. 3. If you do not press the SELECT or VOLUME - / + buttons for a few seconds, the values turns off and is stored in the system. Note • The optional items vary with the changing of listening mode. The variable range is from FULL, 7/8~1/8 or OFF. The default setting is OFF. • FULL: Audio with fully compressed dynamic range. • 7/8~1/8: Audio with partially compressed dynamic range. •OFF: Audio with uncompressed dynamic range. Note • In many listening situations, it is objectionable to allow the sound to become very loud, and thus the loudest sounds must be compressed downwards in level. Likewise, the very quiet sounds would be inaudible and must be brought upwards in level to be heard. Dolby Digital satisfies these needs through the dynamic range controlling.

The parental control function in this system allows playback limitation level to be set by the parent. The default set- ting is “PG”. Note • The lower the level is set, the stricter the limitation is offerred. • If the parental control level of the loading DVD disc is higher than the setting level, the “PARENTAL VIOLATION” message will be shown on the TV screen, and the system will refuse to play the disc. • To change the parental control level, a correct password is needed to key in. • To avoid locking forever, you must memory the password! • A universal password is supplied as default, that is “3308”.

While playing a DVD disc, press the SUBTITLE button repeat- edly to select a desire language for subtitle. The subtitle is dis- played in new language immediately. Note • The first pressing shows the current selection. Subsequent pressing toggles to the next subtitle setting. • Some DVDs display subtitles automatically, and cannot be turned off even if you set the subtitle function to off. • During some scenes, the subtitles may not appear immedi- ately after you turn them on. • Some DVDs allow you to make subtitle selections and turn subtitles on or off only via the disc menu. Use / / / and ENTER buttons. • The maximum number of subtitle languages stipulated by the manufacturers is 32/32. • You can set a preferred language for subtitle in the SETUP menu, see page 33. Depending on some VCD and DVD discs, you may be able to change the audio format (including audio coding type, number of channels recorded and audio language) using LANGUAGE button. The relevant message appears on the TV display. For these discs, the same scenes can viewed from each of the different angles. (The recorded angles differ from disc to disc.) 1 While playing a title shot from different angles, the angle mark : appears on the TV screen. Of course, you can turn off it by setting, for details, see page 30. 2 Press the ANGLE button to change the scenes from one angle to other angle(s). 3 It is useless for single-angle type. Before tuning, make sure that you have turned down the volume to the minimum. 1 In DVD, AUX1 or TV/AV mode, press the TUNER on the remote control to select Tuner function directly. 2 To select between FM or AM, press the TUNER button. You can select FM or AM band using the SOURCE button on the front panel. 3 Press and hold the TUNING ( or ) button until the frequency indicator starts to change automatically, then release the button. Scanning stops when the system tunes in a station. 4 Press MEMORY(MEMO). A preset number “P00” and “PROGRAM” indicator appear on the front panel display. 5 Press the PRESET (+ or -) button on the remote control to select a preset number you want. You can use the number buttons (0~9 / >10) on the remote control to key in a preset number directly. 6 Press the MEMO button again to store the station. If you do not press this button in 5 seconds or you press any other buttons, the station will not be stored in the sys- tem. The preset number and “Program” indicator disappear. 7 Repeat Step 2 to 6 to store other stations. It can transform the stereo or PCM signal to Dolby Surround signal so that you can enjoy a live sound. 1 Press LISTENING repeatedly to select Stereo DD cycli- cally if DVD disc receive Dolby Digital signal; to select Ste- reo DTS cyclically if DVD disc with DTS 5.1; and to select Stereo ProLogic cyclically if DVD disc with AC-3 2.1 CH or PCM. 2 In playing a VCD/ CD/ MP3 disc, press this button repeat- edly can select the listening mode, Stereo Dolby Pro Logic cyclically.
