BMW Motorrad Navigator IV Owner’s Manual 19 Using Hands-free Calling Using Hands-free Calling Using Bluetooth technology, your Navigator IV can connect to your mobile phone and wireless headset/helmet to become a hands- free device. To determine whether your device with Bluetooth technology is compatible with the Navigator IV, go to www.garmin.com /bluetooth. NoTe: While most phones and headsets are supported and can be used, it cannot be guaranteed that a particular phone or headset can be used. All features may not be available for your phone. Pairing Your Devices Bluetooth wireless technology establishes a wireless link between devices, such as a mobile phone and the Navigator IV. The first time you use two devices together, you must “pair” them by establishing a relationship using a PIN/passkey. After the initial pairing, the two devices can connect automatically each time you turn them on. To pair and connect, your device and the Navigator IV must be turned on and be within 33 feet (10 meters) of each other. The Navigator IV can be connected to a phone and a headset at the same time. Initiate pairing from your Navigator IV or from your device. Refer to the instructions for your devices. When you turn on the Navigator IV, it tries to connect to the last device to which it was connected. You might have to set your device to connect to the Navigator IV automatically when it is turned on. When your phone is connected to your Navigator IV, you are ready to make phone calls. From the Menu page, touch Phone to access the Phone menu. Pairing Your Phone Using the Phone 1. From the Menu page, touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth > Enabled. 2. Enable the Bluetooth component on your phone. This might be in a menu called Settings, Bluetooth, Connections, or Hands-free. 3. Initiate a search for Bluetooth devices. 4. Select the Navigator IV from the list of devices. 5. Enter 1234 into your phone. Pairing the Navigator IV with Your Mobile Phone 1. From the Menu page, touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth > Enabled. 2. Under Phone, touch Add. 3. Enable the Bluetooth component on your phone. Enable Find Me/Discoverable/ Visible mode. These settings might be in a menu called Bluetooth, Connections, or Hands-free. 4. Touch OK on the Navigator IV.

Pairing the Navigator IV with Your Wireless Headset To listen to high-quality audio, you can connect an Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) Bluetooth headset. If a non- A2DP headset is used, the media player is disabled and hearing music is not possible. NoTe: Connecting to an A2DP headset can take a few seconds. During the connection time, the media player cannot be accessed. When the Navigator IV is in the motorcycle mount, the internal speaker will be disabled, and you can only receive calls and listen to voice prompts and MP3s through a wireless headset/helmet. For more information, see the audio options table on page 36. 1. From the Menu page, touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth > Enabled. 2. Under Audio, touch Add. 3. Turn on your headset, and enable Find Me/Discoverable/Visible mode, if necessary. 4. Touch OK on the Navigator IV. 5. Select your headset, and touch OK. 6. Enter the Bluetooth PIN/passkey for your headset, if necessary, and touch Done. 7. Touch OK. Receiving a Call When you receive a call, the Incoming Call window appears. Touch answer to answer the call. Touch ignore to ignore the call and silence the ring. While the Navigator IV is in the motorcycle mount, you can only receive a call through a headset. In a Call To end a call, touch > end Call. Touch > Call options for the following options: • Touch Tones—displays a keypad page so you can use automated systems, such as voice mail. • Transfer audio To Phone—this is helpful if you want to turn off the Navigator IV but stay on the call, or if you need privacy. To switch back, touch Transfer audio To Device. • Mute Microphone. Phone Menu From the Menu page, touch Phone to view the Phone menu. Touch Status to view the signal strength, the battery level, and the name of the connected phone. NoTe: Not all phones support all features of the Navigator IV Phone menu.
BMW Motorrad Navigator IV Owner’s Manual 21 Using Hands-free Calling Using Your Phone Book Each time your mobile phone connects with the Navigator IV, the phone book is automatically loaded into the Navigator IV. It may take a few minutes for the phone book to be available. 1. Touch Phone > Phone Book . 2. Touch the phone book entry (contact) you want to call. 3. Touch Dial to call the contact. Dialing a Point of Interest 1. Touch Phone > Points of Interest . 2. Search for the point of interest you want to call. 3. Touch Dial or . Dialing a Number 1. Touch Phone > Dial. 2. Enter the number, and touch Dial. Viewing Your Call History Each time your phone connects to the Navigator IV, your call history is automatically transferred to the Navigator IV. It may take a few minutes to transfer this data to the Navigator IV. 1. Touch Phone > Call History. 2. Touch a category to view those calls. The calls are listed in chronological order, with the most recent calls at the top of the list. 3. Touch an entry, and touch Dial. Calling Home Enter a phone number for your Home location so that you can quickly call home. To enter your phone number: 1. Touch Phone > Call Home. 2. Touch Enter Phone Number to use the keypad page, or touch Select From Phonebook (only available if your phone supports phone book transfer). 3. Touch Done > Yes. The Navigator IV dials your home phone number. To call home: Touch Phone > Call Home. Placing Calls Using Voice Dial You can place calls by speaking the contact name. 1. Touch Phone > Voice Dial. 2. Speak the contact name. NoTe: You may need to “train” your mobile phone to recognize your voice dial commands. Refer to the instructions for your phone.
22 BMW Motorrad Navigator IV Owner’s Manual Using Traffic Information Using Traffic Information Your Navigator IV can receive FM TMC (Traffic Message Channel) traffic when the traffic receiver is connected to your Navigator IV. NoTe: Garmin is not responsible for the accuracy of the traffic information. Traffic information is not available in all areas. Traffic You can only access the traffic information if your Navigator IV is connected to an optional FM traffic receiver. For more information, see www.garmin.com/traffic. NoTe: The FM traffic receiver can only be connected to and used with the auto mount. Receiving Traffic Information To power outlet in car Internal antenna To power connector on the cradle External antenna connector To receive traffic information, the following conditions must be met: • The traffic receiver must be connected to the auto mount. • The auto mount must be connected to an external power source. • The traffic receiver and the Navigator IV must be in data range of an FM station transmitting traffic information. NoTe: Heated (metallized) windshields could degrade the performance of the traffic receiver. Traffic in Your Area When you are receiving traffic information, a traffic icon appears in the upper-left corner of the Map page. The traffic icon changes color to indicate the severity of traffic conditions on your route or on the road you are currently traveling. Severity Color Code Color Description Meaning Green Low severity Traffic is flowing normally. Yellow Medium severity Traffic is slightly congested. Red High severity Traffic is heavily congested or stopped.
BMW Motorrad Navigator IV Owner’s Manual 23 Using Traffic Information Traffic on Your Route When calculating your route, the Navigator IV examines the current traffic and automatically optimizes the route for the shortest time. If a severe traffic delay occurs on your route while you are navigating, the Navigator IV automatically recalculates the route. You might still be routed through traffic if no better alternative routes exist. If a non-severe traffic delay occurs on your route, the traffic icon shows how much time the delay has added to your route. This time is included in your estimated arrival time. Manually avoiding traffic on your route: 1. On the Map page, touch the traffic icon. 2. Touch Traffic On Route. 3. Touch the arrows to view other traffic delays on your route, if necessary. 4. Touch Avoid to avoid the traffic delay. Viewing the Traffic Map The traffic map shows color-coded traffic flow and delays on nearby roads. 1. On the Map page, touch the traffic icon. 2. Touch Show Traffic Map to view the traffic incidents on a map. To return to the normal map from the traffic map, touch the traffic icon, and then touch Show Normal Map. Viewing Traffic Delays 1. On the Map page, touch the traffic icon. 2. Touch Traffic Search to view a list of traffic delays. 3. Touch an item in the list to view the delay on a map and details about the delay. If there is more than one delay, touch the arrows to view the additional delays.
24 BMW Motorrad Navigator IV Owner’s Manual Using the Media Players Using the Media Players The media players can only be used when music can be played in a good stereo quality. When a non-A2DP headset is used, or there is no stereo headset connected to the audio jack (not accessible when in the motorcycle mount) the media player cannot be started. See the audio options table on page 36. Playing Music Load music files to the internal memory or memory card. See page 26. 1. Touch Tools > Media Player. 2. Touch Source to view the MP3 player. 3. Touch Browse. 4. Touch a category and a subcategory, if necessary. 5. To play the entire category from the beginning of the list, touch Play All. To play a specific song, touch the title. Album art Current track • Touch the playlist to add songs, remove songs, and skip to another song in the playlist. • Touch to adjust the volume. • Touch to play the current song from the beginning; touch again to play the previous song on the playlist. Touch and hold to rewind through the current song. • Touch to skip to the next song. Touch and hold to fast-forward through the current song. • Touch to pause the song. • Touch to repeat the current playlist. • Touch to shuffle the playlist. • Touch the album art to view details about the song or to remove this song from the playlist. Supported File Types The Navigator IV supports MP3 music files, and M3U and M3U8 playlist files. NoTe: If your phone is paired via Bluetooth with your Navigator IV, you cannot play MP3s on your phone through the Navigator IV. Creating and Listening to Playlists Using your Navigator IV, you can listen to playlists created on your computer. You can also save playlists using your Navigator IV. To save your current playlist: 1. While listening to music, in the music player, touch Browse > Playlist > Save Current Playlist. 2. Enter a name, and touch Done. To create a new playlist: 1. In the music player, touch Browse > Playlist > Create New Playlist . 2. Select songs.
BMW Motorrad Navigator IV Owner’s Manual 25 Using the Media Players 3. Touch Back when you have finished adding songs to your playlist. To create a playlist on a computer: 1. Using your computer and an audio program, create a playlist of music files. Save the playlist as an M3U or M3U8 file. 2. If necessary, use a text editor application to remove the path to the file names in the M3U file. The M3U file should only list the music file names. Refer to the audio program Help file. 3. Transfer the playlist and the music files to the Navigator IV (see page 26 ). The M3U file must be in the same location as the music files. To play a playlist: 1. In the music player, touch Browse > Playlist > Open Saved Playlist. All available playlists appear. 2. Touch a playlist to start playing the music files. To edit the current playlist: 1. While listening to music, in the music player, touch the playlist. 2. Edit the playlist: • Touch Add to add a song to the end of the playlist. • Touch a song, and then touch Remove to remove it from the playlist. Listening to Audible Books To purchase books from Audible.com®, go to http://garmin.audible.com. Listening to a Book 1. Touch Tools > Media Player. 2. Touch Source to view the audible book player. 3. Touch Browse. 4. Touch a category, and then touch a book title. Book cover art • Touch to adjust the volume. • Touch to skip a section and to jump back. Touch and hold to move forward or backward. • Touch to pause the book. • Touch the book cover art to view more-detailed information. Using Bookmarks To create a bookmark, touch and Bookmark. To view your bookmarks, touch , and then touch a bookmark. Touch Play to listen to the book from the bookmark.
26 BMW Motorrad Navigator IV Owner’s Manual Managing Files Managing Files You can store files, such as JPEG and GPX image files, in the Navigator IV internal memory or on an optional memory card. NoTe: The Navigator IV is not compatible with Windows® 95, 98, Me, or NT. It is also not compatible with Mac® OS 10.3 and earlier. Loading Files Step 1: Insert a Memory Card To insert or remove the card, press it in until it clicks. This step is optional. Step 2: Connect the USB Cable Connect the USB cable to the connector under the battery cover of the Navigator IV. Connect the larger end of the cable to a USB port on your computer. Your Navigator IV and memory card appear as removable drives in My Computer in Windows and as mounted volumes on Mac computers. NoTe: On some operating systems or computers with multiple network drives, the Navigator IV drives may not appear. See the operating system Help file to learn how to map the drives. Step 3: Transfer Files to the Navigator IV Copy and paste files from your computer onto the Navigator IV drives/volumes. 1. Browse your computer for the file you want to copy. 2. Highlight the file, and select Edit > Copy. 3. Open the “Garmin” or memory card drive/ volume. 4. Select Edit > Paste. Step 4: Eject and Unplug the USB Cable When you are finished transferring files, click in your system tray, or drag the volume icon to the trash can on Mac computers. Unplug your Navigator IV. Supported File Types • MP3 music files • M3U and M3U8 music playlist files • AA audio book files • JPEG and JPG image files • GPX route files • GPI custom POI files from the POI Loader application • Maps, routes, trip logs, and waypoints from MapSource ® Deleting Files 1. With the Navigator IV connected to your computer, open the Navigator IV or memory card drive/volume. 2. Highlight the file that you want to delete, and press the Delete key on your computer keyboard. NoTe: If you are not sure about the purpose of a file, do NoT delete the file. Your Navigator IV memory contains important system files that should NoT be deleted. Be especially cautious of files located in folders entitled “Garmin.”
BMW Motorrad Navigator IV Owner’s Manual 27 Using the Tools Using the Tools The Tools menu provides many features that are helpful when you are traveling across town or across the globe. Settings For information about the settings, see pages 31–35. Where Am I? Touch Tools > Where am i? to view information about your current location. This is a helpful feature if you need to tell emergency personnel your location. Touch a button on the right to view the nearest locations in that category. Touch Save Location to save your current location. Help Touch Tools > Help to get information about using your Navigator IV. Touch a category to view information about a topic. To search the topics for a keyword, touch Search. Media Player For information about the media player, see pages 24–25. Picture Viewer View pictures that you have stored in your Navigator IV. 1. Touch Tools > Picture Viewer. 2. Touch a picture to view a larger image of it. Touch Info to view file information and to view this photo when you turn on the Navigator IV. 3. Touch Back . 4. Touch the arrows to view all the images. Viewing a Slide Show 1. Touch Tools > Picture Viewer > Slide Show to start a slide show. 2. Touch anywhere on the screen to stop the slide show. Custom Routes For information about routes, see page 16.

If you have transferred a route from MapSource, touch import route from File to use the route in your Navigator IV. Managing Trip Logs Trip logs are recorded while you are navigating a route. Saving Trip Logs 1. Touch Tools > My Data > Manage Trip Logs > Current Trip Log > Edit > Archive Log. 2. Enter a name for the trip log. 3. Select Done. OR While viewing a trip log, touch Archive Log . Viewing Trip Logs 1. Touch Tools > My Data > Manage Trip Logs. 2. To view a trip log for a route you are navigating, select Current Trip Log, or select a saved trip log. 3. Select a segment or touch View All Segments. Showing Trip Logs on the Map 1. Touch Tools > Settings > Map. 2. Under Trip Log , select Show or Hide. An archived trip appears as a colored line on the map. Deleting Trip Logs 1. Touch Tools > My Data > Manage Trip Logs. 2. Select a trip log. 3. Touch Edit > Clear Log. Viewing an Elevation Chart for a Trip Log 1. Touch Tools > My Data > Manage Trip Logs. 2. Select a trip log. 3. Select a segment or View All Segments. 4. Touch . Sharing Trip Logs If a memory card is installed on the unit, touch Share > export to save the trip log on the card. Editing Trip Logs 1. Touch Tools > Custom Routes. 2. Select a trip log. 3. Touch Edit.
