51 Problem SolvingIf you are having a problem with the projector, first check the projectors indicators and refe r to Reading the Indicators below. If the indicators do not show clearly what the problem might be, refer to When the Indicators Provide No Help. sp.55Reading the Indicators The projector is provided with the following three indicat ors that indicate the operating status of the projector. Refer to the following table to see what the indicators mean and how to remedy problems that they indicate. If all indicators are off, check that the power cable is conn ected correctly and that the power is being supplied normally. Sometimes, when the power cable is unplugged, the t indicator remains lit for a s hort period which is not a fault. Indicates the operating status. Orange : Standby condition When the [t] button is pressed in this condition, projection starts. Green (Flashing): Warm-up in progress Warm-up time is about 30 seconds. After warm-up is complete, the indicator stops flashing. Green : Projection in progressIndicates the projection lamp status. Indicates the internal temperature status.

Wait for about five minutes. After about five minutes the projector switches to standby condition, so check the following two points. Check that the air filter and air exhaust vent are clea r, and that the projector is not positioned against a wall. Problem Solving 53 Lamp Error Lamp Failure Lamp Cover Open Check the following two points. Take out the lamp and check if it is cracked. sp.68 Clean the air filter. sp.65If it is not cracked - Re-fit the lamp and turn on the power. If the error continues - Replace the lamp with a new lamp and turn on the power. If the error continues - Stop using the projector, disconnect the power cable fro m the electrical outlet, and contact your local dealer or the near est address provided in the Support and Service Guide. s Epson Projector Contact ListIf it is cracked - Replace it with a new lamp, or contact your lo cal dealer for further advice. If replacing the lamp yourself, be careful to avoid pieces of broken glass (you canno t continue projecting until the lamp is replaced). s Epson Projector Contact ListCheck that the lamp cover and th e lamp are securely installed. sp.68 If the lamp cover or the lamp is not securely installed, the lamp does not switch on.When using at an altitude of 1500 m or more, set High Altitude Mode to On. sp.45 : Lit : Flashing: : Off Status Cause Remedy or Status Red Red

However, if the temperature rises too high again, projection stops automatically.) Check that the air filter and air exhaust vent are clea r, and that the projector is not positioned against a wall. If the air filter is clogged, clean or replace it. sp.65 , 71 Replace Lamp Replace it with a new lamp. sp.68 If you continue to use the lamp after the replacement pe riod has passed, the possibility that the lamp may explode increases. Problem Solving 55 When the Indicators Provide No Help If any of the following problems occur and the indicators do not offer a solution, refer to the pages given for each problem. Problems relating to images f No images appear sp.56 Projection does not start, the projec tion area is completely black, the projection area is completely blue, and so on. f Moving images are not displayed sp.56 Moving images being projected from a computer appear black and nothing is projected. f Projection stops automatically sp.56 f The message Not supported. is displayed sp.57 f The message No Signal. is displayed sp.57 f Images are fuzzy or out of focus sp.57 f Interference or distortion appears in images sp.58 Problems such as interference, di stortion, or black & white checked patterns appear. f The image is truncated (large) or small, or the aspect is not suitable sp.58 Only part of the image is displayed, or the height and width ratios of the image are not correct, and so on. f Image colors are not right sp.59 The whole image appears purplish or gr eenish, images are black & white, colors appear dull, and so on. (Computer monitors and LCD screens have different color reproduction performance, so the colors projected by the projector and the colors appearing on the monitor may not necessa rily match, but this is not a sign of a problem.) f Images appear dark sp.59 f Nothing appears on the external monitor (EB-X6/S6 only) s p.59 Problems when projection starts f Power does not turn on sp.60 Other problems f No sound can be heard or the sound is faint sp.61 f The remote control does not work sp.61

Press the [ t] button to turn the power on. Are the indicators switched off? The power cable is not connected correctly or power is not being supplied normally. Connect the projectors power cable correctly. sQuick Start Guide Check that your electrical outlet or power source is functioning correctly. Is A/V Mute active? Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to cancel A/V Mute. sp.22 Is the A/V mute slide closed? Open the A/V mute slide. Are the configuration menu settings correct? Reset all of the settings. sReset - Reset All p.47 Is the projected image completely black? Some input images, such as screen savers, may be completely black. Is the image signal format setting correct? Change the setting according to the signal for the connected equipment. sSignal - Video Signal p.41 Check Remedy Is the computers image signal being output to the LCD and the monitor? Change the image signal to external output only. s Computers documentation Check Remedy Is Sleep Mode set to On? Press the [ t] button to turn the power on. Refer to the computers do cumentation for how to change the image signal resolution and the refresh rate output from the computer. sList of Supported Monitor Displays p.102 Check Remedy Are the cables connected correctly? Check that all the cables required for projection are securely connected. sQuick Start Guide Is the correct input port selected? Change the image by pressing the [Source Search] bu tton on the remote control or the control panel. s p.17 Is the power for the computer or video source turned on? Turn the power on for the equipment. Are the image signals being output to the projector? If the image signals are only being output to the comp uters LCD monitor or to the accessory monitor, you need to change the output to an external destination as well as the computers own monitor. For some computer models, when the image signals are output ex ternally, they no longer appear on the LCD monitor or accessory monitor. sComputers documentation, under a title such as External output or Connecting an external monitor. If the connection is made while the power of the proj ector or computer is already turned on, the function [Fn] key that changes the computers image signal to external output may not work. Turn the power for the computer and the projector off and then back on again. Check Remedy Is the focus adjusted correctly? Turn the focus ring to adjust the focus. sQuick Start Guide Is the projector at the correct distance? Is the projection distance outside the recommended range? Install within the recommended range. sp.75 Is the Keystone adjustment value too large? Lower the projection angle to reduce the amount of keystone correction. Has condensation formed on the lens? If the projector is suddenly taken from a cold environm ent to a warm environment, or if sudden ambient temperature changes occur, condensation may form on the surface of the lens, and this may cause the images to appear fuzzy. Set the projector up in the room about one hour before it is used. If condensation forms on the lens, turn the projector off and wa it for the condensation to disappear. Problem Solving 58 f Interference or distortion appear in images f The image is truncated (large) or small, or the aspect is not suitable\ Check Remedy Is the image signal format setting correct? Change the setting according to the signal for the connected equipment. sSignal - Video Signal p.41 Are the cables connected correctly? Check that all the cables required for projection are securely connected. Is an extension cable being used? If an extension cable is used, electrical interference ma y affect the signals. Use the cables supplied with the projector to check if the cables you ar e using may be causing the problem. Is the correct resolution selected? Set the computer so that the signals being output are compatible with the projector. s List of Supported Monitor Displays p.102 s Computer documentation Are the Sync. g and Tracking g settings adjusted correctly? Press the [Auto] button on the remote control or the [Enter] button on the control panel to perform automatic adjustment. If the images are not adjusted correctly after using automatic adjustment, you can make the adjustments from Sync. and Track ing in the configuration menu. sSignal - Tracking, Sync. p.41 Check Remedy Is a wide panel computer image being projected? Change the setting according to the signal for the connected equipment. sSignal - Resolution p.41 Is the image still being enlarged by E-Zoom? Press the [Esc] button on the remo te control to cancel E-Zoom. sp.29 Is Position adjusted correctly? Press the [Auto] button on the remote control or the [Enter] button on the control panel to perform automatic adjustment of the comput er image being projected. If the images are not adjust ed correctly after using automatic adjustment, you can make the adjustme nts from Position in the configuration menu. Apart from computer image signals, you can adjust othe r signals while projecting by adjusting Position in the configuration menu. sSignal - Position p.41 Is the computer set for dual display? If dual display is activated in the Display Properties of the computers control panel, only about half of the image on the computer screen is projected. To displa y the entire image on the computer screen, turn off the dual display setting. sComputer video driver documentation Is the correct resolution selected? Adjust the Brightness settin g in the configuration menu. sImage - Brightness p.40 Are the cables connected correctly? Check that all the cables required for projection are securely connected. Is the Contrast g setting adjusted correctly? Adjust the Contrast setting in the configuration menu. sImage - Contrast p.40 Is the color adjusted correctly? Adjust the Color Adjustment se tting in the configuration menu. sImage - Color Adjustment p.40 Are the color saturation and tint adjusted correctly? Adjust the Color Saturation and Tin t settings in the configuration menu. sImage - Color Saturation, Tint p.40 Check Remedy Are the image brightness and luminance adjusted correctly? Adjust the Brightness and Brightness Control settings in the configuration menu. s Image - Brightness p.40 s Settings - Brightness Control p.43 Is the Contrast g setting adjusted correctly? Adjust the Contrast setting in the configuration menu. sImage - Contrast p.40 Is the lamp due for replacement? When the lamp is nearly ready for replacement, the images become da rker and the color quality becomes poorer. When this happens, repl ace the lamp with a new lamp. sp.67 Check Remedy Are images from a port other th an the Computer Input port being projected? The only images that can be displayed on an external monitor are computer images from the Computer Input port. sp.78 Only when projecting images from a video source
Problem Solving 60 fProblems when projection starts f Power does not turn on Check Remedy Did you press the [ t] button? Press the [ t] button to turn the power on. Are the indicators switched off? The power cable is not connected correctly or power is not being supplied normally. Connect the projectors power cable correctly. Check that your electrical outlet or power source is functioning correctly. Do the indicators turn on and off when the power cable is touched? There is probably a poor contact in the power cable, or the power cable may be defective. Reinsert the power cable. If this does not solve the problem, stop usin g the projector, disconnect the power cable from the electrical outlet, and contact your local deal er or the nearest address provided in the Support and Service Guide . s Epson Projector Contact List Is the control panel lo ck set to Full Lock? When you press and hold down the [Enter] button on the control panel for about seven seconds, a message is displayed and the lock is released. sp.34 Was the power cable plugged back in immediately after Direct Power Off, or is the breaker turned off? When the operation to the left is pe rformed when Direct Power On is se t to On, the power may not turn back on. Press the [ t] button to turn the power back on.
