Important SafetyInstructions Follow thesesafety instructions whensetting upand using theprojector: • Do not look intothelens when theprojector ison. The bright lightcandamage youreyes. Avoid standing infront ofthe projector sothe bright lightdoes notshine intoyour eyes. • Do not place theprojector onanunstable cart,stand, ortable. • Do not operate theprojector onitsside, orwhile tiltedtoone side. Donot tiltthe projector morethan 10 °forward orback. • Ifthe projector ismounted onaceiling orwall, itshould beinstalled byqualified technicians using mounting hardware designedforuse with thisprojector. • When installing oradjusting aceiling orwall mount, donot use adhesives toprevent thescrews from loosening anddonot use oilsorlubricants. Thismay cause theprojector casetocrack andthe projector tofall from itsceiling mount. Thiscould cause serious injurytoanyone underthemount and could damage theprojector. • Do not use theprojector nearwater, sources ofheat, high-voltage electricalwires,orsources of magnetic fields. • Use thetype ofpower source indicated onthe projector. Useofadifferent powersource mayresult in fire orelectric shock.Ifyou arenotsure ofthe power available, consultyourdealer orpower company. • Place theprojector nearawall outlet where theplug canbeeasily unplugged. • Take thefollowing precautions whenhandling theplug: Donot hold theplug withwethands. Donot operate theprojector onasofa, rug,orother softsurface, orset it on top ofloose papers. Donot cover theprojector withablanket, curtain,ortablecloth. Ifyou are setting upthe projector nearawall, leave atleast 7.9inches (20cm) ofspace between thewall and the airexhaust vent. • Do not operate theprojector inaclosed-in cabinetunlessproperventilation isprovided. 153
• Never allowobjects ofany kind toenter anyopenings inthe projector. Donot leave objects, especially flammable objects,neartheprojector. Neverspillliquid ofany kind intotheprojector. • Ifyou areusing twoormore projectors side-by-side, leaveatleast 2feet (60cm) ofspace between the projectors toallow forproper ventilation. • You may need toclean theairfilter andvent. Aclogged airfilter orvent canblock ventilation needed to cool theprojector. Donot use canned air,orthe gases mayleave aresidue. • Do not store theprojector outdoors foranextended lengthoftime. • Except asspecifically explainedinthis manual, donot attempt toservice thisproduct yourself. Refer all servicing toqualified personnel. Openingorremoving coversmayexpose youtodangerous voltages andother hazards. • Never openanycovers onthe projector exceptasspecifically explainedinthis manual. Neverattempt to disassemble ormodify theprojector. Doingsomay cause anunstable displayandcould leadtoprojector damage. Donot use orstore theprojector where it may beexposed tosudden changes intemperature. 154
• Do not store theprojector outsideofthe required temperature rangeof14 to140 °F (– 10 to60 °C) or in direct sunlight forlong periods oftime. Doing somay cause damage tothe case. • Do not place anything thatcanbecome warpedordamaged byheat near theexhaust vents.Donot bring yourhands orface close tothe vents whileprojection isin progress. Donot bring yourfaceclose to the projector whileitis in use. • Before youmove theprojector, makesureitspower isturned off,the plug isdisconnected fromthe outlet, andallcables aredisconnected. • Never trytoremove thelamp immediately afterusebecause itwill beextremely hot.Before removing the lamp, turnoffthe power andwait atleast anhour toallow thelamp tocool completely. • Do not disassemble thelamp orsubject itto impacts. • Do not place thesource ofan open flame, suchasalit candle, onornear theprojector. • Do not block thelens during projection usingabook orany other object. Thiscould damage the projector orcause afire. • Do not modify thepower cord.Donot place heavy objects ontop ofthe power cordorbend, twist,or pull itexcessively. Keepthepower cordaway fromhotelectrical appliances. • Ifthe lamp breaks, ventilate theroom toprevent gasescontained inthe lamp frombeing inhaled or coming incontact withyour eyes ormouth. Ifyou doinhale gasesorgases comeincontact withyour eyes ormouth, seekmedical adviceimmediately. • Ifthe projector ismounted overhead andthelamp breaks, becareful toprevent piecesofglass from falling intoyour eyes ormouth whenyouopen thelamp cover. Ifpieces ofglass doget into your eyes or mouth, seekmedical adviceimmediately. • Always lowerthevolume beforeturning offthe projector. Turningonthe projector withthevolume too high candamage yourears(applicable modelsonly). Note: Thelamp(s) inthis product containmercury. 3D Safety Instructions Follow these3Dsafety instructions whensetting upand using theprojector: • Ifyou orany viewer experiences thefollowing symptoms orother major discomfort fromviewing 3D video images, immediately stopviewing andcontact yourhealth careprovider: convulsions, eyeor muscle twitching, lossofawareness, alteredvision,involuntary movements, disorientation, eyestrain, nausea/vomiting, dizziness,headaches, fatigue,orblurry/double visionthatlasts longer thanfew seconds. Donot engage inany potentially hazardous activity(suchasdriving avehicle oroperating machinery) untilyour symptoms havecompletely goneaway. Ifthe symptoms persist,discontinue use and donot resume stereoscopic 3Dviewing withoutdiscussing yoursymptoms withahealth care provider/physician. • Some viewers mayexperience aseizure orblackout whenexposed toflashing imagesorlights contained incertain 3Dcontent. Anyonewhohasahistory ofseizures, lossofawareness, symptoms linked toan epileptic condition, orhas afamily history ofepilepsy, shouldcontact ahealth care provider beforeusingthe3Dfunction. Itis recommended thatallviewers takeregular breakswhile watching 3Dvideo images orplaying stereoscopic 3Dgames. Thesuggested breaksare,atleast 5to 15 minutes afterevery 30to60 minutes ofstereoscopic 3Dcontent viewing.* *Based onthe guidelines issuedbythe 3DConsortium revisedDecember 10,2008. Thelength and frequency ofnecessary breakswillvary from person toperson. Ifyou experience anydiscomfort, you should immediately stopwatching the3Dvideo images orplaying stereoscopic 3Dgames untilthe discomfort ends;consult aheath careprovider/physician ifnecessary. • Due tothe possible impactonvision development, viewersof3D video images shouldbeage 6or older. Children andteenagers maybemore susceptible tohealth issues associated withviewing in3D and should beclosely supervised toavoid prolonged viewingwithoutrest. • Maintain adistance fromthescreen ofatleast three times thescreen heightwhenviewing 3Dimages. The recommended viewingdistance foran80inch screen isat least 10feet (3m) and atleast 12feet (3.6 m)fora100 inch screen. Also,werecommended usingascreen sizelessthan 120inches. Viewing anycloser thantherecommended viewingdistance oron ascreen largerthanrecommended may result ineye fatigue. • Viewing 3Dcontent maycause dizziness anddisorientation forsome viewers. Therefore, toavoid injury donot place yourprojector orscreen nearopen stairwells, balconies, orwires, anddonot sit near objects thatcould bebroken ifaccidentally hit. • The following peopleshouldlimit3Dcontent viewing: • People withahistory ofphotosensitivity • People withheart disease • People inpoor health 156
• People whoaresleep deprived • People whoarephysically tired • People undertheinfluence ofdrugs oralcohol • Anyone whohasever experienced epilepticseizures orsensory disturbances triggeredbyflashing light effects • SOME LIGHTPATTERNS MAYINDUCE SEIZURES INPERSONS WITHNOPRIOR HISTORY OF EPILEPSY. • Do not use thedevice nearanymedical equipment orequipment thatisautomatically controlled,such as automatic doorsorfire alarms. Donot charge the3Dglasses usingotherdevices asitmay cause the battery toleak, overheat, ignite,orexplode. • Do not drop the3Dglasses orpress tooforcefully onthem. Ifthe glass sections orother partsare broken, aninjury could occur. Storetheglasses inthe soft case supplied withthem. • Be careful ofthe edges ofthe frame whenwearing the3Dglasses anddonot place yourfinger inany of the moving sections suchasthe hinges.
